Fitting Pod Filters on your GPZ600R? Yes or No?

You want some information about whether or not to fit pod filters on your GPZ600R .. or you fitted some ad the bike won't run? Maybe this will help you. Maybe not, but it might just be interesting to know.

Seeing as those carbs with pod filters on his screen are mine 😮 and yes I did take a chop saw to them to get the outside ones to fit all glued together with bumper repair epoxy the carbs have been up jetted to getting it running fine and there is a 3d printed manifold the pods mout to that has a link pipe with a outlet to plumb the crankcase breather onto.

Yes, i saw all this 👍🏻. If you got it running then well done .. what setup did you end up with ? Did you have an aftermarket exhaust too? I presume so.

@@MrLefthooker before I even started I contacted NRP Carbs in Manchester and asked for some advice as I was ordering new pilot and main jets and they recommended I go up a couple of sizes. The bike runs on original headers with some home built straight through type silencers with a similar pipe diameter to the original baffles. The 3d printed manifold as some bell mouths incorporated that are about 35mm long which are just a bit shorter than the original airbox rubber ones that were all distorted and rock solid and made of unobtanium apparently. It runs fine and has no obvious flat spots but I don't ride it like I stole it so that may help😂

Hi Jason, once again a very interesting video. At the moment, i have some problems with the choke. When i use it, the bike only runs on 3 cylinders. Any ideas? A second question: What tool do you use to change the settings of the pilot screews? There is so less space under the carburators, that it is nearly impossible, to reach the screws head. A little tip for the people, who are refreshing the carburators diy: the 2 carburators in the middle use other main jets as the carburators on the outside. So take care, when you built them together after cleaning.

The pilot screws can only be adjusted with the carbs off the bike. I haven't found any tool that fits underneath. Not even a 90° Screwdriver. I suspect that you may be getting far too much fuel into the 3rd cylinder, and when using the choke it might be far too rich. Check your float height using the clear tube method and look at your spark plugs to see if she is running rich.

I started making an adjuster using a guitar machine head.... then gave up and just got good at removing and reinstalling the carbs/airbox. It's really the only way.

Excellent explanation! I had considered pods for my project, but I'm currently looking at finding some Mikuni RS series carbs for my bike as they made them in period. You wouldn't happen to know of any for sale would you? Cheers! Greetings from Mexico.

I have looked everywhere.....Can someone Please give me an answer. Does the 1985 zx600a (gpz600r) have the same headers as the 1997 Zx600c (gpx600 i think). no where online has a definitive answer on if they are interchangeable.

The headers are the same and are interchangeable up to the collector. In other words, yes, but not the end pipes, they are different after a certain year, but for simplicity, they are different. The 1985 GPZ600 is the ZX600A1, and the 1997 GPX600R is the ZX600C10 and (in Europe at least) way the last year the gpx was sold. They shared the same engine block from start to finish, hence the same headers throughout the range.

Thank you so much! im looking for a set for my 85 and for some reason 85-87 People want your unborn children. So im looking into the other models. Only source of actual Knowlege on this bike are you and like 4 forum posts from 2009. I can do the mount work. I just needed to know if the base was the same. Thank you so much. @@MrLefthooker

Just trying book jets in mine. Previously I was running smaller pilot (35) with larger mains (110) with a different needle. I've not had enough time to feel the difference yet but it now only needs 2 mins choke to reach idle temp.... as opposed to 2 miles before. Top end is not as snappy now though.
