Maddy, thanks for bringing this song to my attention. As a Vietnam veteran, I appreciate what every veteran who has been a combat zone goes through both abroad and at home. It was less difficult for me in my transition out of the service, but as a person who worked with veterans afterward I felt their pain of lack of respect and acceptance when they returned home. Many of us Vietnam veterans are now late in life, but we do understand what our fellow veterans from other wars go through.

Thanks Maddy, great reaction and such kind words. As a UK veteran myself I find it so difficult to understand that not only in the US but the UK as well there are so many veterans that seem to have been forgotten and are living on the streets. It seems as though once they cease to be useful as a member of the military they’re discarded with little or no support with a multitude of problems both physical and mental. They deserve better.

This song breaks me every time I hear it. My nephew was a proud Marine, he enlisted when he was 18. When he got home from his 5th deployment in Nov 2015 we got the call he had become one of the “22 a day”. He was 25 years old 😭🇺🇸

@Maddy, this is a very emotional video and still every time I see it, it hits me. Being a Veteran myself. But there are three spots in this video that really hurts. 1. The scene where the Veteran was sitting down and the little girl came over to give him a flower and the mother yanked her away from him like he is some kind of disease. 2. The part where the police officer is hand cuffing the Veteran and then notices that they were in the same company or platoon being that they had the same tat. 3. The end scene where the Veterans are talking and the one Veteran tells the other Hey its me, you saved my life brother.

Another great song about life in the military is Rooster by Alice in Chains. Jerry Cantrell (the guitarist and backup vocalist) wrote this for his father who served in Vietnam. The lyrics were his perception of his fathers experiences out there. Per Jerry's father (when he first heard the song) he said "You got too close - you hit it on the head". He even cried during one of their shows where they played this song. One of the best ballads in grunge history. I'd highly recommend reacting to Rooster if you get the chance.

I joined back on 07 as an MP. I got out in 2009 with severe PTSD. As soon as I got out I was homeless in Colorado Springs for a few months before one of my Battles saw me on the sidewalk and picked me up. I've been sitting on just 50% disability since 2011. It took 2 years to get me into the VA. Im, waiting on my appeal for my claims. I was an addict for 6 years and been clean for almost 14 months. I can't work, I can't go hang out with anyone or go out to eat with people. I have no friends. But, you are right. The American system is screwed for us. I get barely $1000 a month to survive. While people walk into this country and are given everything under the sun for doing nothing. I was almost part of that ending statistic. When I was an addict, I wouldn't even wait to get home to do my DOC. (Drug of choice) I would pass out in the Walmart Parking lot in Orlando across the street from Orlando Health Hospital. Cops would never take me to jail. They saw I was a veteran and I was trying to kill myself. Anyways, thank you for your support and showing all of the organizations in the credits. Stay cool chick.

I don't have a lot of friends and he serves a purpose as someone that I always enjoy getting together with. I'm sure I help him as well with his mental health. Will always support the veterans even though I don't support war.

Young lady, I've seen dozens of reactions to this song. This is the first video of yours I've seen. Throughout this song I didn't watch the music video or listen to the words much. I'm very familiar with them. I watched you. I watched your face, I watched your eyes. Even if you've moved on from how you felt in this moment or these feelings you felt in this moment have faded, it's fine. For a few minutes you let us in and you saw us. You didn't look away, you didn't stop it to compose yourself. You rode this ride to the end. I'm proud of you. What I just saw took courage, an impressive amount of courage. Thank you for seeing us. Even if it was only for these few moments, I don't care. You didn't look away and you let me and my brothers in for a few minutes and that's plenty. At least for me it is. I don't know you and we'll never meet, but one old warrior that fought two wars admires your courage and his old heart is lightened for a few minutes by your courage. I don't say this often and I don't say it lightly, but I will remember you to the gods of my ancestors and I will ask Odin to lend you wisdom, Thor to lend you strength, Freya to show you love and Loki to grant you mirth along your way. Thank you for seeing us, if only for a few minutes.

We've been sent overseas for decades, to fight in various wars and "police actions". We've been asked to give or risk our lives for this country. And then we have politicians like the one, trying to justify his vote against further funding for the VA to help vets coming back from the Iraq war and Afghanistan with PTSD, said that we "can't afford entitlements". That's a direct quote. I graduated only 3 years after Nam ended and served near the end of the Cold War. Some of my older relatives came back in a coffin, or never came back at all. Lots of personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan came back in coffins, or came back heavily wounded, physically or mentally, or both. People want to talk big, talk about "supporting the troops", wave flags at parades and wear flags on clothes (against the Flag Code, by the way). But when it comes to ACTUALLY supporting us? To supporting housing assistance for vets, or helping vets find food or jobs, or health care, suddenly it "costs too much" and they "have to balance the budget".

Listen, every single veteran that leaves, goes through ACAP. They teach you and educate you to enroll in the VA. (I did) those that dont and just ignore the class will end up like this. This is 2023 and this country has so many beautiful benefits for veterans. How do i know? I am one. You have to do your part when you leave. Dont act like this is the countries fault when they are doing their oart.

Hi Maddy! I'm a 73 year old Vietnam Veteran, and I've seen this video many, many times. I've cried every time! It's a difficult video to watch, but it's a story that needs to be told. FYI... this video is 8 or 9 years old and the numbers they quoted are much higher now. For example, 22 veterans now kill themselves every day, not 12! How you reacted says a lot about who you are as a person. You're a lovely young lady and I appreciate you for who you are and how you support veterans. Take care, be safe, and much love! Peace!

Thank you. This is one of the songs I listen to when I need a good cry, I am from a family with 9 generations of military service members in the U.K and Canada. The most important thing I was taught was to respect those brothers and sisters that paid everything but to remember always that the surviving vets carry just as much damage as the deceased just we can help them recover to the point that they can heal. The fact that we as a society have finally come to accept that PTSD and CPTSD are real. It is a cause and effect psychological issue resulting from inadequate support for the emotional trauma of being in combat and the loss inherent in a situation and experience of this nature, is a huge step forward to actually recognise the price of having a military includes the trauma support necessary to maintain the personnel. (just wished the politicians understood as well unfortunately they are deaf, dumb and blind to anything but cash in their pockets)

You know what would really be amazing? If ALL..... Veterans had the same top shelf health care that Congress recieves. Thank you Maddy, for your heart breaking reaction and your heart felt plea, on behave of Veterans. Your tears are justified and will not go unnoticed.... by us.

As a combat vet who also along with so many brothers and sisters suffer from PTSD This hits hard. They train us for war but not how to return home. A lot of us are here but have truly never came back

I'm a veteran from brazilian army, i went to haiti and some other places in Africa with some UN military to help with many things out there. Mainly to help people without any food and to escape from the civil war. In the midst of it all we had to protect ourselves through the cross-fire.

if you want a similar video to react to for the upcoming Veteran's Day. Try Five Finger Death's Punches "Gone Away". It is a cover of The Offspring's hit song, but rebranded to see what veterans deal with to end up where they do.

Maddy...You're a very caring and beautiful person. I hope you will react to the 60 Minutes interview of Jessica Buchanan as she describes her rescue by Navy Seals. It's a very touching and inspiring story and demonstrates what extraordinary lengths our greatest warriors will go to in order to protect our civilians without asking for anything in return. Thanks for your sincere and often emotional reaction videos. You are a treasure.

The solution would be quite simple. Everyone pays a so-called veteran tax and no verteran has to live on the street. But that's where most people's pity ends.

A good place for these soldiers is a native indian sweat lodge, this I hear helps tremendously...
