Man ... thanks for help! I'm a geneticist working with cancers but today I have fixed my dryer (the belt has come off the drum)...no other youtube instructions helped. Thanks once again!

About the oil or wd40...is one less flamible or is that not an issue

I was only thinking of what provided the less friction and more lubrication.

If there was a way to open the back of the dryer it would have been much easier to replace the belt.

Ok I know...this might be a stupid question but...I'm not aware of how to deal with the gas line that attaches to the dryer...how does the dryer draw the gas when it's on ....do you have to plug the gas line somehow or will there be a switch somewhere ...I have to pull the dryer away from the wall and the gas line comes from behind and down by the floor.. I'm not willing to turn the gas off at the meter because you have to call the company to turn it back on. Please remember my stupid question warning before you hurt yourself DIY laughing

Well for me there was a shut off valve on the flexible pipe, so i turned it off there. I also know on my gas stove there is a shut off valve right there as well. If there's no shut off at the dryer then there may be one in your basement (if you have a basement). I know i also have the main gas line into the house, and there is a shut off valve that i can turn off right as it comes into my basement. But ya, you have to fine some shut off valve if you are going to unscrew the pipe. Maybe you can try following where the pipe goes and hopefully find something.

How much money do you think a repair person would charge....or actually...how much is too much if it took you 8 minutes....or how much could you say you saved... at parties...if the subject of DIY comes up.

I don't know. I do know that when people come over to look at your furnace or something it's $150 just to walk in the door. To clean a dryer and replace a belt, the part cost like $12, the labor would be like $200. But that's just my random guess.
