Fix 🔧Ford Escape 👨‍🔧Fan Only Works On High

If your fan only works on high, or only works on some settings but not others, it's probably a bad resistor. Here's what to do.
Part Info:
2008-2012 Ford Escape Blower Motor Resistor 3F2Z-18591-AA
To replace the resistor:
First open the glove box and empty it.
Pinch on each side to open it all the way.
Look inside to find the plug for the resistor.
Pull on the plug to remove it.
Remove the two screws with an 8mm socket.
Remove the resistor.
Now do it all in reverse with the new part:
Replace the resistor.
Replace the two screws.
Plug it back in.
Test the blower.
Put your driving gloves back in the glove box.
Close the glove box.

Worked perfect I did it in about 10 minutes but when I put the new one in it had a coating near the top where it fits in so if you have this problem, you may want use screws that are a little longer because the factory jobs gave me a little trouble but I made it work Thank You for saving me who knows how much money. Oh, yea I saw another video, and someone said the local dealership wanted $311.00 for this repair!!! I respect mechanics but that's terrible.

Worked for me! Took me a bit to figure out how to work my husband’s tools😂 but done now. Maybe 30minutes… most time trying to find and use tiny tools that fit. Thank you so much for this video. Daughter’s car good to go for 13.27.

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I needed a thin screwdriver to pop up the plug because my plug had a small inside clip that popped up without too much resistance and a small ratchet made it easier to remove the screws also..all in all a lot of self satisfaction and money saved..thanks so much!. .

Fun fact. The resistor is placed in the air duct to cool the resistor.

@@JS-te4gz The heat comes from/after the heater core which is down stream of the resistor. The resistor is first hit from the blower motor. Most cars now these days use a blower with a micro chip to control the speed.

I wonder if you can try cleaning the connection points off and then see if that will work??? I’ll try that before buying the new one.

You can try it, and re-seating it. Won't hurt. A pencil eraser is good for cleaning off contacts. It's probably not a contact problem though, since these aren't being unplugged and re-plugged repeatedly, which is usually when/why contacts get flaky and need to be cleaned. Either way it's still a pretty cheap and easy fix. Good luck. :)

Mine went and I replaced it and works font but seems ever since air heat fresh all smells almost like manure....strange

Not sure. Open your glove box like at 0:34 and look for a similar plug. :) If you enter your truck info at an auto parts website (oreilly, advance auto, auto stop) it will let you search for parts and you can get one that way.

Have to? Maybe not. But I'd definitely recommend not working on a circuit while it's powered. Is there some reason it must be on?

The fan worked only on high until today. Now it doesn’t work at all. Can I still apply the same solution to fix it?

Probably. It would be a good first thing to try. If it's not the solution you haven't spent a lot to try it. :)

I have a 2011 Ford escape. I'm wondering if this will fix my problem. I can't get the climate control fan to turn off at all unless I turn off the car completely. The fan speed is mostly stuck on high,but if I fiddle with the different knobs I can sometimes slow it down. But still won't turn off, and it doesn't matter if it's on auto or if I set it manually. Any advice would be appreciated.
