My Briggs and Stratton 5500 watt generator come from the factory with only 4 diodes (same thing as a bridge rectifier) and doesn't have an AVR (Auto Voltage Regulator), and it has a very small capacitor. With only a bridge rectifier (and without an AVR) the AC voltage at the outlets rises and drops depending on the engine speed. However, a generator with an AVR maintains the correct voltage even when the engine RPM drops under load which is better in my opinion. The only reason I can think of to replace the AVR with a bridge rectifier is if someone can't afford to buy a new AVR when the old one goes bad. Also a a bridge rectifier and capacitor, when sized correctly could be more reliable as there are less electronic components to fail than in an AVR. The AVR's also have a bridge rectifier in its circuitry.

I have this problem the generator that l have got when switching the polarity of the AVR it gives out less power but when the polarity is correct there is no power so l do not know the exact problem.

Sir in the last video the generator gave an output of 271v to 280v Is there a way to reduce it to the required 220v to 250v

Yeah.. I assume you are referring to the video i converted avr to capacitor.. You can reduce the voltage by reducing the speed of the generator

Many thanks, After watching your video, I did the conversation it worked but it cannot carry much load especially my fridge , the current drops.. even when i use a 35uf capacitor. Before now my AVR keeps blowing up.... But the conversation works but cant carry load what do i do? Can post a video on alternator?

Where did you insert the 2 AC wires from the diode? Because the alternator port has 4 wires “blue, brown and 2 yello”

Like I’m having a situation with this same kinda Gen. … the old Avr no longer supply energy like it use to ..I’ll have to turtle the Gen before it supply’s light and now I have gotten a new avr and a new brush as well but it still the Same situation but the new new AVR stops working shortly ….what can I do
