I appreciate the details about how bottom brackets can have a slight egg shape to their rotation, either due to build quality or age or what have you. That bit about finding the tightest spot is clutch, and one that has bothered me for years. Thank you!

@@hfdcjiirjmcfi dual drive means that it's set up for right and left hand drive, flip flop is usually right hand drive and set up to take a 16t and larger on one side and when flipped can take 12t-15t on the other side

On my Fixie bike, when take the back tire off I notice there is alot of play where the chain ring is mounted when I move both pedals arms back and forth/side to side. Is this normal?
@RileyGoss
@RileyGoss 6 жыл бұрын
That's a normal problem but it should not wobble, it should be stiff. The bottom bracket has some play in it because it may be worn out or needs tightening.
@danfuerthgillis4483
@danfuerthgillis4483 5 жыл бұрын
John Kay The bottom bracket should be tight but there is a trade-off between super tight and the bottom bracket bearings moving smoothly. This is all by feel there is no computer to set this up it is up to your liking . Personally I always go for smooth bearing movement as this gives me more power to push the bike forward and my knees and legs like it to.

@ein99999
@ein99999 7 жыл бұрын
Actually i would tighten the side with the chain first while holding it tight but thats just me im not trying to contradict what hes saying but it makes more sense to tighten first the side with the gear and chain while holding it tight if you can and then the other side since this bike has that special bolt. Am i wrong or is he more correct i dont know but my sixth sense tells me the gear side forst if you have that kind of bolt. But on conventional bikes it might make more sense to do the other side of your having trouble with the wheel slipping back. I am no mechanic but on metal frames it seems like its better to keep the gear side tight first then the have the other side pull inot the tighter side maybe. Again i am guessing and it probably wont make a big difference just my guess i guess. Love this guy hes very helpful and makes many things easier and adds a lot of knowledge to everyone.
@ein99999
@ein99999 7 жыл бұрын
Cause you dont want to stress the metal on the gear side and keep it always straight and firm and keep it the way it is as much as possible maybe. Because thats the part that has to stay strong and straight and tight so if your bending it in it might not be as good as keeping it straighter and have the other side bend in last. Im guessing.

Is there any point to a fixie? No. Another one of the endless and inexplicable fads and trends that people with extra money and free time to fritter away invent so they can pretend they are achieving something, perhaps saving the world. At least they aren't peddling to nowhere, at breakneck speed, on a bike that costs more than a car. At least they aren't hardening up their arteries clicking away at their $90 mouse in front of a 60 inch screen playing World of Warcraft. (Not saying anything against WoW. I am sure it is a very fine game, although I wouldn't know.)

I got one - they are low maintenance. Granted, I know that's not why most people choose to ride them, but they clearly require less maintenance than a high end, geared road bike.
@voelone5514
@voelone5514 8 жыл бұрын
idiot....fixed gear bikes are the original bicycle....gears weren't invented till much later. trend? trolling is a trend you know too well. I'm my opinion gears are a trend. bike messengers in the late 1800s rode fixed gear bikes on cobblestone roads. dumbass
@kennethflorek8532
@kennethflorek8532 8 жыл бұрын
Armand Penalosa Not surprisingly, the person calling some one else a dumbass has nothing in their comments worth reading. If people who are in love with fixies had a factual reason to do so, and were not just following yet another fad, they would have something ready to explain it, like the person that replied before you. Before people were riding single speed bicycles in the late 1800s, people used to walk. So then walking must be an improvement over riding a bicycle, by the same logic that a single speed bicycle is better than a multi-speed bicycle. I don't have anything against people doing things because they are trendy. I just don't like them posing as if they are doing it for some other reason, when they aren't If you had a reason for riding a fixie, you would have said it. Otherwise, you are a brain-dead poser.
