Other than Not wearing gloves or wearing dirty gloves, these guys did awesome job! And the fact that they save the top strip without breaking it shows their skill level. FJ’s Are not very easy to do But these guys made it look very easy. Pretty damn good

I keep hearing that the plastic piece at the top of the windshield needs to be replaced every time you replace a windshield, but it looked like they just snapped the old one back on.

The insurance don't pay for the top molding. and the bes way to remove it is : with a fiber stick just lif it up and use a extractor to cut the glue( 5 point of glue) and the molding will release easy from the clips. Don't forget to put glue again when you reinstal the piece.

Did they have to remove the side a pillars for this install? I have a snorkel mounted and am worried it will interfere.

good point about having to cut the glue... only so much you can pack into a short video and that hit the cutting room floor :-)

I'm not sure on the glass. However I've put 5K and no chips yet... I had my first at 6k in the old windshield

I had my windshield replaced and they bent that top molding piece. also the windshield is installed crooked. they are replacing the mold should I have the windshield redone?

Colby Saigeon sorry to hear you got a bad install... especially since as FJ Cruiser owners we go through a lot of windshields.

Last Great Road Trip I wish the shop told me how difficult the repair was i would have stuck with a broken one. Crooked windshield replaced new molding strip not clipped in somewhere and there is this gap there so I have to go back again and get either new clips or it glued properly. youch.

I wish there was a 'how to' video on replacing the windshield of an FJ. This video is alright, but there is no 'step by step' instruction.

Do you typically have to replace the top molding too?
@howicit45513 жыл бұрын
Yes, and new clips. And they seem to have used the same molding clips. The molding will fly off on at some point. I know because I had a Safelite do mine like this. Now I know better!

this isnt exactly the type of vehicle you want to attempt a diy job on the windshield.... fyi that top moulding alone cost $300 if you mess it up..... not to mention the cowling isnt the easiest to remove and the installation of the side mouldings!!!!

Looks like your typical hack job. Prying the top molding. That could be a $400.00 screw-up. Don't think they glued it to the new glass either. Trimming the top lami on the new glass was totally uncalled for. Then they glued the new glass right on top of the old bead (shortcut method). What's with wiping the frit after priming. Maybe it's an old school multi-part prep and prime. Could be since they are using a hand caulking gun. What is with that? I didn't know anyone did that now. We use Dow U400HV and Dow Express. I don't even know if you can gun that stuff with a hand gun. I'm certain you can't lay down a consistent bead.

I use u 418 hv with a caulking gun it has a 16 to 1 ratio with no problem

Definitely the most complicated window to do. Even euro cars with their gimmicks are easier than these.

we just replace that mould every time shitty design not normal for a toyota
