Have you ever wondered how some stitchers get there stitches to lay so smooth and flat? Well they are Railroading their stitches.
But I thought I would go over Tow over Two again. Never hurts to have a refresher course on stitching techniques. Two over Two means I am stitching with two strands of floss and going over two fabric threads.
Now Railroading your Stitches is a stitching technique to help you create smooth and flat stitches. When using two strands of floss they will twist around each other, with one strand hiding behind another. When Railroading your stitches it helps them to separate laying parallel to each other and being flat against the fabric.
When I stitch I usually finish all of my bottom stitches then do my top stitch. You can Railroad both if you like but I usually just do my top stitch. So here in my example I am going to do my top stitch by placing my needle between the two threads to separate them and then complete my stitch. This encourages the two strands of floss to lay side by side when the stitch is pulled tight.
