Scotsman's Return To The Mainline ! Click Link Below !!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=URCH3...
LNER "Flying Scotsman" makes it's hugely long anticipated return to service at the East Lancs Railway, as it's hauls a special service up and down the railway. With a specially implemented timetable, that would coincide with it's running in period along the privately owned Lancashire railway, while running in wartime black livery, which it will be only sporting for a short period of time, until it's inaugural run, along the East Coast Mainline, where it will be in B.R Brunswick Green.
The day did not start well, as Black Five 45407, was declared a temporary failure, and considering it was due to operate the braking of the train, which the Scotsman was pulling, it meant a class 31 diesel needed to be powered up, so it could control the trains brakes, as the Scotsman is temporarily unable to operate the brakes on it's train. The timetable slipped well behind due to the delay. Given the inclusion of the diesel, it was only taking it's weight and rarely assisted the able Scotsman.
Locations for today were Rawtenstall, Bury & Heap Bridge, where the engine can be heard in good voice on the climb to Heywood. TV actor, Robson Green is seen on the footplate at Bury, shooting for a new Scotsman documentary, which will air later on this year. An absolute superb sight and well worth the wait. Here's hoping for an extensive trouble free period of running and we can all look forward to it's mainline outing's which hopefully everyone will get to witness.
I hope you enjoy the video of this iconic loco

im 67 i can only pass down to future generations how important preserving these locos are, i remember train spotting as a lad at Hornsey Stn N London, and watching the A4s thunder pass going North and South at about 70mph, in the 90s i worked with an ex GWR fireman, he said how he hated working with some drivers as they rinsed through the coal, also it was a great sight at Paddington Stn seeing the Halls/Castles/Kings all may i ad spotlessly clean.

Why is the *FLYING SCOTSMAN* black?
@karlosbricks2413
@karlosbricks2413 6 жыл бұрын
It was painted in wartime black a while ago, This was how all engines in the UK were painted in ww2 to make them harder to see from the air, You can also tell becase it just says NE on her tender which was how the different railways were distinguished under this unified black livery

why was the Flying Scotsman numbered 502? I thought its wartime to BR number was 103.
@1987VCRProductions
@1987VCRProductions 8 жыл бұрын
During the war, it was still under LNER management so it was still numbered 4472. After the war in 1947, the locomotive was modified from a Gresley A1 to an A3, painted apple green again, and numbered 502. It only carried this number for a short time before being numbered 103. After British Rail took over, Scotsman was renumbered 60103 and painted in a BR livery (I want to say that it was rail blue in the early days and BR green later on but I could be mistaken).
@jakedarling7549

+1987VCRProductions What's she being painted in once she's been tried and tested? And will she be 60103 or 4472 (for the nostalgia)
@1987VCRProductions
@1987VCRProductions 8 жыл бұрын
+Jake Darling They're painting it BR green with the number 60103.
@jakedarling7549

Ah ok. I prefer the apple green but I guess the British Rail green doesn't look bad
@1987VCRProductions
@1987VCRProductions 8 жыл бұрын
+Jake Darling The reason for the BR green and BR number is because they're trying to keep it as historically accurate and authentic as possible. The double chimney and smoke deflectors were BR additions and, since they encourage better fuel efficiency, the NRM decided to keep them.
