THATS AN AWESOME RIDE!!! Drove a 300D for 5 years, commuter car. 300K, only repairs, motor mounts, and turbo bearings. Oil and fuel filers @ 3k, I still see it around town. 35 mpg, and that’s when diesel was cheap. Never should have sold that car. Well done.

When I was 17 I had a 74 ' Camaro & a 76' Mustang Cobra , and a 72' F100 short bed with a 302 , 4 speed. Red ! Loved that truck. My dad bought me the Camaro when I turned 16 & I bought the Cobra 6 months later.... I bought the f100 from my dad when I was 15 . It was wrecked , so I bought a parts truck (71 f100) and changed the front clip... My dad fussed at me for having so many vehicles but by the time I was 18 I had added a few for parts & , one of my all time fav's , I bought a 77' Monza Spyder. Then a 73 Chevelle that Id love to have today.. Love the channel . Phil from Austin Tx.

Those go for 10 - 13k, in good condition and with vintage registration here in Germany. What a gem.❤❤❤ I can’t wait seeing it getting restored. Without rust, those old mercedes cars can run forever. Well sought after. There still kids and teenagers growing up in a good. Sometimes they’re just hard to find, because they’re occupied with doing their thing.

Those w123 chassis cars with the OM116 motors are absolute TANKS. Oil changes, anf fuel filters will make them run for ever. The weak points are underbody rust and the vacuum systems that run the locks and fuel cutoff. That looks like a solid example

When I was 17/18 (1969) my dad bought me a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible to drive to auto mechanics class, held in an old dealership, on one side if town and then to the rest if the school day at the the high school on the other side of town. He bought it and never put another penny into it because I asked him not to. I was working 2 jobs besides school so the car was my responsibility! Insurance maintenance the whole bit was my responsibility. I LOVED that car. So if I were to go back and be able to do it again, yeah, ‘58 Chevy Impala convertible!! Good luck with Buster Benz and have fun!!!

A friend of mine has on of these Mercedes wagons he uses as his daily driver. When he got it, it did not run, and he told me the fuel injection system used is essentially the same as Germany used on their WWII fighter planes. That was five years ago, and he still drives every day.

And I bet it's similar to the system they used on diesel trucks before those fighter planes! A chain driven injection pump is some simple stuff (in theory.. Mercedes did this with some gasoline injection cars in the 1950's, too.

Another road trip idea -- Yellowstone National Park! Have you been there?! I was tent camping in a campground there about three winters ago, somebody else had a W123 turbodiesel wagon, a photo buff, I suspect he was. He was up before the crack of dawn and I knew the sound of that motor when he went off before sunrise for his day's adventure.

I was not 17 but 18 when I first drove my relative’s Mercedes W123 in winter time. I still remember when I did slip on black ice on the road and slide off to a frozen crop field like a rock. The star sign bent a bit on the nose, but not a scratch happened even after was pulled back to the road with a tractor. He never noticed that, so I kept the secret. I felt like a king on the road in those seats, while others drove Lada and Dacia cars around me in 1992 in Hungary 🇭🇺 I’m glad to see you enjoying it

That is literally the most reliable rig you own. Half dead, she still does car stuff. Clean the injectors before you you mess with throttle settings on your pump. Run some CRC or BG detergent cleaner and clean them. At idle, right now they are not spraying, they're streaming like a squirt gun or water hose. That's why she's "nailing", and then clears up. Stanadyne makes the best fuel additives for it. Other than that, get the AC working, rear shocks(!), new tires, and enjoy. The bones of this rig are known to live close to a million miles, in African Heat, Artic Cold. Epic car.

If it was my car and I was 17 again I'd be looking in junkyards for seats and interior parts. Fix the mechanics, preserve the paint and frame and just keep up on and do the backlogged maintenance. Keep everything budget friendly since I, and many others didn't have much money at 17 + 18. Make the car a driver and do everything with it. Camping, store runs, drive in movies, beach trip, stuff thats affordable to a person who doesnt have a lot of money.

There was a reason y'all came across my feed! I have an '85 Benz diesel wagon (same color!) I bought for $800 bucks and it was a "pile", too!🤣 It gave me an entire decade of trouble-free service, including, two cross country trips! It's the Euro version. Planning to convert it to electric to preserve it. It just became too unsafe to operate and I had to let 'er sit. She has vacuum issues, brake master cylinder issues and leaks like a sieve through the moonroof.

If only diesel were half the price of gas like the good old days! A while ago I had a friend with a birthday in February. At Mountain High in Southern California you can ski free on your birthday. We would ski in the morning, stop buy home, swap for our surf gear and go surfing north of Ventura in the afternoon. He called it his biathlon of fun. With that roof rack you're set for strapping boards on top! I have a 66 SS Chevelle and back in the 60's I dreamed of finding a 66 Malibu wagon (of course no extra money then) so either that or now maybe a 47 Chevy sedan delivery swapped onto an S10 Blazer chassis. Panel trucks were popular for surf wagons then too. We would borrow my family's 55 Buick wagon for beach trips back then. Have great fun with the project!

Our family largely doesn't sell our cars, we shuffle them around. My first car, in 1991 when I was 19, was a used 1982 Saab 900 I got from my mother after she got herself a '91.5 9000S,. After I cracked the block of that 82 in 1996 I replaced it with an used '89 900 i bought myself and my father got himself a used '90 900S from the same dealer a year after. In 2002 my mother upgraded herself to a 9-3S and my dad got her 9000S and I got his 900S. Then in 2007 I got the 9000S after my mom got a 9-5 Aero and my dad got the 9-3S. Around 2012 I got the 9-3S (which was a 5 speed) and my dad got a used 2002 9-3 SE (which has a bigger turbo among other things) in an automatic as he was tired of doing stick shift (the 9-5 is also an auto). A deer wrote off the 9-3S in 2014 and I replaced it with another 2002 9-3 Manual which I'm still keeping going. IF I had to do it all over again, I'd still have gone with Saabs (though I might go easier on the clutch of the first one and the transmission of the third one)... they're not anymore expensive to fix than BMW, or Audi, or hell even VW, and while they're not "fast" cars typically for their class, they're the most overbuilt tanks when it comes to structural reinforcement that I basically don't worry about a collision with anything. I've seen crash photos of them being rear ended on icy/snow covered highwayst by loaded 18 wheelers and the truck is the thing that bent the most in the process. You can take the front coupling knuckle from TWO locomotives doing about 35mph to the drivers door and it barely phases the car. Pushes it down the tracks a quarter mile or so and the about worst you're going to suffer is a broken left leg if you're the driver (everyone else will be able to open their doors and get out). Roll overs are pretty much a non-issue as they have better roof structures than anything without an NHRA certified cage like Finnegan has in Blasphemi, and they're designed to take 1100 pounds of moose or elk to the windshield without the animal getting inside the cabin. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6-Apbtyr5i6mmQ.html

Oh and my daughter named it "Vapor" it was light blue and of course a little smoky.

I really enjoy your page. The pair of you are so adorable and a fun couple! At the end you asked what I would do with enough money and imagination to the Benz. In my seventy years that project would probably start with a nice welded hitch big enough to pull a twenty or so foot long travel trailer. The trailer should have a rear bumper that can carry the Honda motorcycle too. All my cars in the past were either triumph's, MG's, Volkswagen beetles or buses with a couple of muscle cars thrown in along with many motorcycles. I now have a '97 Nissan pickup on it's second engine that I refuse to sell. At one time I had a 1958 Porsche as an everyday driver. Boy I miss that one. If nothing else have fun!

Small tip at the front corners of the sunroof opening are 2 drain holes that lead down and out behind, under, the top of the wings to I think the same spot that the hood hinges hide in with lots of leaves usually sat in there, if memory serves. I found a bit of extension lead cord flex was exactly the right size to slide down these 2 channels to clear them out without any real effort at all. Just a fantastic car for making your day feel that much better when you travel in them.

You are right, these cars can´t die! In Germany they have been the standard Taxi car for 3 decades and after they did about at least 1 mio km in rough taxi cab driving, they were sold to Africa and you might see them there still running strong today!

That truly is the perfect road trip car you can put all-terrain tires on it and they do pretty good in the dirt

If you ever want a hot rod Merc Diesel consider a Mercedes 606 series with a mechanical 603 fuel pump. 400 hp wouldn’t be a problem.

Just did Mercedes adventure in a 300CE. Based on where you live I would do a beach tour. Ship the car to Corpus Christi, fly there, get the car and drive the along the beach in every state to FL. Take the gulf side to Miami come up the the east side of FL and highway it home when you hit GA. . Forget the roof top tent to much money now a days and a kid would sleep in the back, it’s a wagon....pit your stuff on the roof fold down the seats down and sleep every other night in the wagon. Aaron, every kid puts a new pair of shoes on there care. Fins some sedan wheels newer wagon wheels.

I agree. The car should be Da Kid's... But if things go poorly.. Well a 300TD stand for "terrible decisions" lol😂

Road trip vehicle for sure. Roof top tent sounds cool. But the mini teardrop camper would work also. More room to haul stuff along. As for the vehicle itself, I would hit all of the long over due maintenance items. Brake downs make content, but less is more. I would then work on the interior. Not to make it fancy, just functional and comfortable. After that, time to enjoy the diesel wagon life.

I loved mine!! Screw that exhaust valve closed on the turbo exhaust and it'll bark second gear. It's surprising what that engine can do! EDIT: The vacuum system is everything in that vehicle...also the AC board usually needs to be resoldered...

They are amazing cars , the fuel tanks are sometimes troublesome as they have a central division. The engines will last forever if cared for
