Upgraded engine mounts in Jeep Cherokee XJ

This video outlines installing upgraded engine mounts in a Jeep Cherokee XJ. We remove the factory style engine mount and replace them with Daystar units. These are polyurethane bushing mounts that will increase in cab vibration but will help deliver lost power into the drivetrain that the factory mounts cause. I picked these up off facebook market place.

Good job. But I think for it to be tight like that. The bracket will crack very easy.

When you pulled the air filter out and looked at it, the look on your face was hilarious, LOL! It's nice when the 2nd side of whatever your project is goes easier than the first. Nice job, Mark!👍🏻👊🏻

Thanks Clint. I have a feeling that the engine was twisted with the factory mounts and that once I got the first upgraded mount installed and straightened the engine so to speak ,the other side lined up much easier

Dan, it's going to be a little bit before I get a video on the ride quality. I was filming this video noticed that my tires were pretty much shot and I decided to take the Jeep off the road earlier than expected to do the axle swap

They are a little stiff at first but are wearing in and feel great !

I would have cleaned that airbox while it was out. Looks like those should be much better

Good call in the air cleaner. I have a feeling nothing's going to be coming out again before I get the Jeep back on the road anyway. So I'll do it then but thanks for the heads up

I just bought some M.O.R.E motor mounts for my XJ. After installing them the ride is SUPER smooth on the road, but I get bad vibrations sitting at idle. Do you think that's someone I'll have to live with or did I possibly do something wrong. I followed your procedure exactly as you did it

If they are brand new they will be a little bit stiff at first. I would give it a week and if it stays the same try loosening the thru bolts a little and see if that helps

Does the orientation of bolts matter when your installing them back in?

Offhand, I don't think the direction of the thru bolts does matter. Most times I try and put them back as I found them unless I had issues removing them due to clearance , or interference issues.

@@FMJeeping yea thats what happened to me. Both were facing different directions, but bc I had alot of issues lining it up I finally got the bolts in but the nuts are now facing the back of the engine. I can't see how it would effect anything but who knows 🤷

@@ky0611 the direction on probably won't do much. It might be close to the oil filter. But I think that's about it .

Will rigid motor mounts and zj fan clutch be an issue? Rubbing?

Hard to say. It did not work for me. I am using a 3 core radiator, and the thickness difference was a bit too close for me. If you are running the stock rad, and run some upgraded mounts, it might work. I know many people go this route.

Yeah running stock rad with zj fan clutch. Seemed to work. Probably about a 1/4 of an inch clearance.

@@jromomgs good deal. I even tried shifting the rad forward for more clearance early on into the build and it wasn't working. 1/4 is just a hair too close if the engine bucks or starts to move.
