So I went ahead and did as you prescribed. The price for the brace was reasonable however the guitars were expensive. I couldn't decide what guitar to get so I bought 2 of them. 1 by someone named Martin and another by someone named Taylor. The brace must really work because now I can play them both. I didn't even need to practice.My 64th note scales are flawless on my Martin and my sweep picking arpeggios are effortless on my Taylor.Now I need to find the brace that helps me play the piano. I want to be able to play Flight of the Bumblebee or Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concierto. Here we go. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Recovery, not rest. Granted, you shouldn't be using the arm past excess, but not using the arm will also make the problem worse. Joint stabilization, ice, but more important is heat, to promote healing. Mobility exercises are also important since blood takes at least 2 minutes to get into connective tissue, unlike muscles. The other major factors are: sleeping positions, prioritizing nutrition for health, and removing alcohol from your diet for at least 90 days. The problem is not the job. The problem is not taking those extra steps to make sure you're taking care of yourself. I know this from experience.

Hi I'm a plasterer & had severe tennis elbow. I couldn't even lift my forearm. I couldnt sleep . All the physio exercises did nothing for over 6 months. I was then offered injections and surgery which both would of had negative side effects. Then i tried the clasp within days the pain had reduced after a month I could work again. It changed my life and was the only thing I found to relieve the pain. 5 years on I've had no lasting issues so long as I wear it at work. I suppose everyone is different and have different results. Just use what gets results for you

The elbow strap helped me heal initially (when I finally stopped using my arm after many months of injury) and then I would use it only if I felt inflammation. Moving back into using my hand/arm for strenuous work I would carry a wrist strap, or even body tape I could support my fingers with (I would put Elastoplast cut thin, down the top of each finger, or sometimes around my palm). The wrist strap was I think the most helpful in the end, and I wore it for a year when I felt any inflammation in my wrist, or before pushing myself. Now after a couple of years Im feeling strong, and though I get a bit of inflammation when doing strength exercises, Ive found its fairly temporary/mild if I use straps when needed. Its great to be able to actually work out again

I have tennis elbow issues in both of my arms from working at a desk full time. I use two wrist braces and do random stretches and strengthening exercises. Nothing is improving my situation, so I finally just went ahead and got forearm braces to see if it does anything different. I really have come to the conclusion that I will just have to take time off from work through workers comp, unfortunately.

The best think you can do is stop working. The second best thing, is proper excersizes, that will take pane away. It only takes some seconds and you can get rid of the pain, just with those excersizes. Surgery is an option if you have a lot of pain and it's very difficult to use your hand, fingers don't close etc. However, even a surgery won't guarantee, that you won't get tenis elbow back again. I didn't listen to the doctor and people's advice, to quit my job, and I have regret it. The issue got worse and worse, to the point I couldn't grab the spoon to eat. It also has a lot of pain. I mean, it can get way worse than you can imagine. Hope you did take care your arm since then. I gott it on both arms.

Not sure if your issue stems from gripping a mouse all day, if so, I have found switching to an external trackpad from apple really helps, the trackpad offers a large surface area and you’re not constantly gripping something, perhaps combined with a reticulated keyboard tray to optimally place your arm may help although I have not used this. Also, I combine it one of the smaller apple Bluetooth keyboards rather than the full size one as with the full keyboard I find the trackpad is too far to the side for comfort. Unfortunately this mostly works with the Apple ecosystem, I’m not aware of any good windows/chrome based external trackpads. On the trackpad I keep my hand loose, master gestures, and stretch/rest from time to time.

I had tennis elbow in both my arms 10 years ago. I had a cortisol injection in both arms, my left side, and the pain was gone. My right arm, I had a total of 3 injections, then had tennis elbow corrective surgery, and that fixed the issue. After 9 years, my left arm pain has reoccurred, I had 2 more injections, and sadly, it gave me steriod induced Diabetes which I'm trying to reverse. The pain went away for a few months, and I refused to have another injection. I will look into elbow support for the time being, but ultimately, surgery on my left arm seems to be the way forward. Exercises, for me, make my pain worse.

I’m dealing with this now, and it was caused by doing some exercises with a different grip. I can do my powerlifting with my barbell, no problem - but externally rotating kills it. So I stopped those exercise - but I found the tennis elbow strap made things MUCH, MUCH worse. Using kinesiology tape in an X configuration crossing right over the tendon from the mid-forearm to the middle of the upper arm is helping me so much, along with red light therapy to try to speed up healing. As long as I’ve got the tape on, I have little to no pain and can work out pretty normally - but I know I’m probably going to have to have this tape on for a few months straight to let it properly heal.

Ok I’ve sorted mine and I’ve come back here to share how I did it. I do motorcross and I damaged mine properly!! I tried everything including 3 cortisone injections. I also bought that silly strap which actually hurt it even more. Mine was torn on the tendon and the muscle was torn causing pain from the tendon, down about 5cm. NOTHING worked. Rubbing it sideways, up and down, icing it, etc etc etc…It was so so bad, I couldn’t do anything-had it for 5months. I started to read all the comments and picked up two bits of info. I bought a simple hot water bottle. I started every evening after supper, to put the hot water bottle on my arm and hold it there until it cooled down. I got it as HOT AS POSSIBLE!! For as long as possible. I also did it some afternoons. While doing it I kept my arm as STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE!!! Then, I went to sleep with my arm STRAIGHT and never bent it in the night. I used extra pillows to keep it STRAIGHT. I did this for 3 weeks thinking I’m still going to have to go for an operation.. when one day I woke up and it felt sore, but a different sore. Because I’d kept it STRAIGHT for as long as possible, it had a chance to recover. The heat from the hot water bottle brought blood supply to the area and it healed. I went for a slow ride yesterday and the rest of my body is sore, but not the tennis elbow. I’m still doing the hot water bottle!!!! I’m NOT getting this pain again I am determined!!! HEAT AND OXYGEN & KEEPING IT STRAIGHT WHEN YOU SLEEP. Try it, don’t use ice, and don’t try anti inflammatorys because you need it inflamed and hot!!! Good luck!! 👍 Allan

That was very helpful. I appreciated the explanation of how the strap works via the guitar. I am getting back into Fencing, and switching weapons (sabre to epee), so the grip is totally different as well as the type of motion. The strap helps address the pain while I'm also building up strength via the Theraband flexbars (I use red and green, depending on the motion). I'll have to try wrist braces as well, but I'm pretty sure the grip change is more of the problem for me than the wrist motion changes.

A doctor showed me not to wear the brace directly to the point that hurts as you do kind sir, he told me to put the point of presure, exactly after that point. So that's like half an inch in further, from where you showed. It makes sence, because as you said, it acts like the guitar gadget, so to help the damaged muscle, we have to put the brace right after the point we feel the pain!!

So, this is for those of you that are experiencing long term pain that is seemingly chronic. Its been 6 months for me. I had tried both rest and physio exercises, and a combination of both. I had days of relief, but in general, the issues were ongoing. Then, I discovered the Athlean X kettle bell routine for tennis elbow. This was the beginning of realization. The kettle routine was giving me relief but not permanent. I did start to notice that when this routine popped my elbow joints, I would get almost instant relief, but with residual tenderness at the tendon. To be expected I suppose for a tendon under constant strain. So, I remembered I had seen one or two vids that suggested some Tennis elbow is actually a fruit of joint dysfunction and misalignment. I went back and sought out more vids on this issue, and came up with a couple of exercises/movements that are designed to pop the joint back into alignment. Guess what, I went from having a day of pain and restricted motion to near instant relief. So, for me at least it seems my joint is out of whack. This makes sense for me. I was aggressively chopping wood when I triggered my Tennis elbow. So, for me at least, it seems I need to focus on alignment and also strengthening the arm muscles. This goes for the shoulder too. I'm taking a holistic approach to building my arm back up. Good luck. UPDATE: 4 months after posting this comment I am more or less back to normal feeling and function with my elbow. It does want to slip out of alignment from time to time, but a simple pop stretch movement usually sets things back. I have been in good shape for quite a while. Initially I was doing popping and stretching several times a day for the first few weeks before my elbow was comfortable being back in alignment . I will continue to pop and build back muscle strength as needed.

Hi David, thanks for watching! great question. There are two effective ways of using it - as an offloader and also as compression/combined. I find the latter more effective and most of my patients end up experimenting with different placements when they start using one and end up more or less over the site of pain. Finding the 'most comfortable spot' and the best relief is the best use of the brace for short term relief, so I would recommend experimenting to see. Good luck!

Once in a fall breaking my fall with my right arm as well. My worst episode was after working out hard and finding the next morning it felt like I had elbow restraints bilat and couldn't bend either elbow for some time several hours. It was very painful, especially if I palpated the Medial epicondyle, but mostly no ROM, no ability to bend elbows to even pick up a phone or even put on pants. So, I figured out that it was golfer's Elbow I am able to treat it more effectively. I did try the elbow brace for Tennis Elbow with some success with pain relief.

I appreciate the capo reference you used; it's a good one. I've been through over three years of chronic (medial) elbow pain--including useless surgeries--and don't understand how I was never directed towards a wrist brace, which makes perfect sense! I like your gentle and thoughtful approach to healing.

I'm not sure if your argument against the strap makes sense. In the case of the guitar, if you've got the "capo" on the strings, then the tension is held at the capo, not at the tuning pegs. Right? If the tension is reduced or held constant at the brace, its seems that it would give the area at the elbow a chance to heal without additional stress.

I am currently wearing a strap/brace for my tennis elbow. I do bowling for sports, and work at office, and the overuse is causing it. While behind computer, i can definatly tell, i have a lot less pain with my daily job. But as soon as i am done, it goes off. During my breaks i take it off as well, like you said, don't wear it for too long. I have not tried bowling yet with it, but i think it will benefit me on that part as well

Hello@@aminchicas1428. I got rid of the pain permanently in 6 weeks total by wearing the elbow brace and also using Thera-Band FlexBar for extra training and strenghtening it. I have bowled with the brace, and for league it was okay. Not totally painfree, and used a arm compression sleeve as well. Tried a tournament with it as well, but after 6 games (of the 10) the pain was unpleasant, and it screwed up my scores, because my focus was way off.

It’s become a problem causing a lot of pain radiating up to my elbow. I originally thought the ulnar nerve was trapped. This video opened my eyes on this elbow band I have been using, but I was still having pain. I’ll have to look through your collection of videos to see about exercises you recommended

Hi Burke, 3? Months ago I fell and caught myself with my left arm. ( pulled it not fell on it) The original doctor put me in pt. I was diagnosed with golfers elbow, tennis elbow and strained wrist flexors. After a month of no relief, I went to an ortho. A month in a full wrist brace fixed 2 of the problems but not all and I ended up with a cortisone shot into my tendon( left arm, ulna side, top) plus he took me out of the brace and said to use the tendon strap. Here's the problem the tendon doesn't hurt anymore but my hand will go numb and if I lean on my elbow it feels similar to sticking a 9v battery to your tongue if I'm not wearing the strap. I can't wear the strap all the time and I'm not to use the wrist brace at all. Obviously this is not a repetitive injury. I don't see the ortho for 2 more weeks.... kinda questioning what's best to actually heal compared to just band aiding the discomfort....any suggestions??

thx for watching and I'm sorry to hear about your injury! If I had a similar injury, i'd definitely bring in a hand and arm specialist, either OTR or PT for this, since you're describing some features that need a closer look (the numbness and 9v battery feeling). At the very least another set of trained eyes can validate how long to expect your recovery to take (3 months is on the short side if there's been a nerve traction injury for example) and that would be useful. Good luck!

Good day. Thank you for your video. My physiotherapist has diagnosed me with 'tennis elbow'. I am a guitaris/musician. In watching your video, I understand that it's actually what your wrist does that causes the condition, and not the elbow itself. Does this mean practicing for shows and playing my guitar is making it worse, or are 'we' talking about different wrist actions?
@focusrehab
@focusrehab 2 жыл бұрын
practicing and playing are risk factors due to the inherent wrist tension and repetitive fingering - recovery generally requires a period of limited play though... it's possible to make things move faster by being very regular with the exercises. Good luck!

It seems a little bit unlikely to me that these bands will really stop the force through the tendons from reaching the elbow when climbing... but I think I'll give it a go to see if it helps (along with reduced intensity of activities and some physio exercises). Thanks!

I bought one of these bands. It does give a little pain when I put in on, where he does, but it interferes with freely bending your elbow. At PT, they said to wear it lower, which didn't seem to do anything. The wrist brace might be something I may try, to wear at night, because I think I'm doing something funky with my hands while I sleep because it hurts worse in the morning.

For me, my golfer's elbow should be called guitarist's elbow since I got it from playing several hours a day for a couple years now. Do you think I could use the wrist brace and still play guitar or will it restrict my wrist movement to the point that I couldn't fret properly? I don't want to buy one if I can't play the guitar while wearing it. BTW, I'm doing plenty of stretches, massage, etc. to address the causes of the problem, but I want to weare something during these acute pain periods. My golfer's elbow started just 4 days ago.

thank you so much for a very easy to understand and informative video. I just started wearing a support band for what presents as tennis elbow(outer back side of left elbow area) I walk with a cane,Walker or shopping cart pretty constantly and tend to lean on my wrist as well as I'm also artist/crafter so I do use my hands quite a bit so I now have a better understanding of what's happening so fingers crossed this is temporary and I can heal it by taking precautions that you suggested and making some adjustments to my activity. this really helps so thank you and I definitely have subscribed.

But can you play guitar wearing the wrist brace? I suspect that “tennis elbow” injury is from playing a new guitar with a longer scale than I had previously played which has slightly higher string action. Not enough to let a luthier mess with it, but somewhat more challenging to play.
