I have heard this horn nearly every summer for 47 years - but never in January. Enjoy even if you have never heard it live. Then plan a trip to Owls Head - once you go to Maine you will always want to go back. Lunch at the Owls Head General Store is also a must. Can't miss it as you pass that way to get out to the lighthouse

That "horn" is actually an Automatic Power Model FA-232 electronic signal which operates at 400 Hz. The Coast Guard should have left the real air horn fog signal in place.

Sounds like a **car** horn rather than a fog-horn! To me, a fog-horn is a super-low-bass "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" . Think about the pitch that that old guy sang "Wandering Star" at many years ago - **that's** what I'm getting at.

@@dashcamdude6690 if the light is manned then the keepers will do it, but if the light is automated then a fog detector will start the foghorn.
