Hello ^^ You can download a map in cache instead to stream it in real time. And you will see the difference. For windows update you can setup windows to use not all the bandwidth but just a part of your choice. Since yesterday I have less stutters with my gtx1070, it's incredible. Now I can put shadows without any difference. What is the recipe? I saw yesterday a German KZfaqrs who compare the % of CPU and GPU during stutters, all was bellow 50% even more. So he decided to remove all AI vehicles. And the magic happens. No more stuttering. So I removed my cars from 56% to 16% and I earned less stutters even near the ground. So it seems that the IA calculation for cars, boats, and planes take lot of threads who does stutters

You are 1000% correct! I run a high-end PC and in VR (G2). This sim is like my wife: one night it's pleasant and smooth, the next night, she's a complete disaster! 😂 You're correct in the case where the sim works brilliantly one day, and the next, turns to crap. No matter your internet speed or hardware! Keep up the good vids!

Steve, I really appreciate your remarks about upcoming 'settings' video -- and the struggle to create them, and keep them current with the quickly evolving realities of MSFS! I had just been longing for a 'fresh update', having just added a new 4090 card to my rig -- but still with the 5900X for my CPU. Your Intel/3090 set-up has been the closest I'm aware of to what I HAVE BEEN flying with, so your settings updates have been enormously helpful. Naturally, now that I have a 4090, I'm keen to milk the best performance out of it that I can. BUT, I find myself adrift in a sea of settings categories that I really do not understand, and am wasting a lot of time fiddling about with them, often not really understanding my results. So -- I'll be EAGERLY watching for your next update!! 💛

Quest2 is my headset. It's taken me a long time to realise I have to switch on oculus debug tool when I'm already in VR in the cockpit. Then PC asynchronous spacewarp to 45 FPS enable. Then file. Then restart as administrator. This is the only order I'm able to stop the stutters in VR.

@@VRFlightSimGuy I have demonstrated that one of the best ways to remove stuttering is to use Rolling Cache (the manual does not work because of a bug). Of course the limitation is that it only works for places you overfly often, like Madrid in my case as my hometown and the most stunning photogrammetry city I have seen to date on MSFS.

I'm a huge fan of motion reprojection. It's really a game changer provided it runs at least at half the native framrate. But I have to admit that SteamVR is better than OpenXR when it comes to looking left or right at fast moving objects. There is still some ghosting with OpenXR. SteamVR had some has well a few years ago, but managed to get rid of it. Ok I know I'm speaking of DCS , but that is an issue I'd really like to see out of OpenXR soon :-). VR kicks ass anyway !
@phoenixrising011

I use openxr (pimaxXR with an 8kx) and I cannot induce stutters. Even if I try. The right settings and the right computer/hmd and it will be stutter free. In DCS maxed out settings that is.

Nice suggestions, I agree with them all, except one: I will never, never, never give in on Ultra clouds :D They're just too beautiful. Then: on my system (same as yours), Pico 4 has way less micro-stutters than the G2, even with WiFi connection, using exactly the same settings. Did you notice something similar?

I believe the g2 has a much higher resolution than the Pico 4. The number of pixels being driven is much higher on the g2. This might be the cause.

Great video Steve, pretty much nailed it all. One thing though you've said in the past was to disable hyperthreading, is that still an issue? I have this disabled and I'm not really sure if it needs to be in, I think it does improve microstutters but that may also be placebo effect. Another thing I would say it that for me at least, stutters are rare but I tend to 'introduce them' when I add third party content which hasn't been optimised, mapping DLC is notorious for this but also complex planes or enhancements mods to existing planes you just need to be a little bit careful. 👍

My Old system: AMD 5900x running a 7900xt GPU and 32GB memory. Ran DCS perfectly at 144hz on my Valve Index. I decided to do a clean windows install to get ready for the new Nvidia 4090 GPU. I can't get DCS to run correctly at all. It stutters like you said when looking out the side. The 3d world seems like its falling behind what is actually happening. My machine is extremely fast but I can't even turn my graphics as high as it was. I never had stutters!! Now I have to turn the HZ to 80 just to try and play. Its unplayable at 90, 120, and 144hz now. So I built a completely new system and its doing the same thing. No one can figure it out either. So I think some of those people who have those stutters out the side, are having the same issue as me and I believe its software, not the HZ like you said.

Interesting to hear you recommend HAGS enabled. I always heard that will mainly benefit those with rather weak hardware. While having it enabled if you're on a powerful computer will more likely have the opposite effect. There was an explanation why that is but unfortunately, I can't recall what the explanation was from the top of my head.

i find that dx12 works better for me in VR with the settings i use. i have a 4060ti 16gb but only an R5 5500 cpu at the moment which is my bottleneck. the game actually runs better in VR if i set my settings on high because it puts the load on the GPU rather than cpu as long as i lower my bitrate to give the cpu more time. terrain LOD as well. most everyone says to turn it down but after testing i found that if i turn it up i get less micro-stutters. i think its because it doesnt increase detail as it may sound, what it does is it loads a larger map into VRAM, which my 16gb can handle. and this gives my cpu more time between loads and i dont see terrain loading as i fly over it. i still get stutters and will until i upgrade my cpu but they are far between and only when i'm doing crazy flying like diving between buildings in New York.

Sorry to hear that. You have a wonderful system, that's my specification too and I've made some concessions but I have everything running smoothly. I've found through the years it's not so much about the GPU performance (unless you have a significant bottleneck somewhere), so long as you have a decent system then it boils down to external influances. MSFS fundamentally offers a smooth flying experience if set correctly but can't do to much about unoptimised DLC, poor network/disk performance, or other applications and processes getting in the way.

Dx12, at least the crashing issue with OpenXR Toolkit has been fixed, i think as of the latest version here in march 2023. Hags on can cause issues with those that use the TDS 750 integration (a pop up comes up on that). I can now do re-projection with the aero + 4090, i had major stutters at first in one region, turned out to be addon related. Very smooth 30 fps around NYC, otherwise about 54 without repro in the C310. Also, rolling cache being on can cause issues, to rule things out i just disable mine.

I had really bad stuttering and freezing after a Windows (10) update about a week ago, but since a sim update last night (which I assume is the SU12 beta) things have been still not right but much better. For anybody interested in the beta it did break my JustFlight aircraft (again) though (ctd on startup with them in the community folder), and I can no longer select any approach except 'automatic' for IFR flights.

At least now with MR I’m not suffering lack of sync which was just so horrid prior to SU11 (I think). HP reverb G2 would simply not transition well from 45 down to 30 or 22.5 and it drove me bonkers. That problem is well in the past. Another top gear top tip would be that if you’re gonna mess with settings (for the millionth time we’ve all been there!) then use a control - ie same plane same location same weather same time of day 👍😊

dropping by to share a bizarre story. I've had fs2020 running on a 7950x system with a Zotac 4090, 64gb of ddr5 6000, and the reverb G2. The sim runs on a dedicated NVME. My internet connection is healthy a 500mbps. I had all sliders maxed out in both PC and VR, with DX12 and DLss3 active. I had occasional slow-downs, but maintained 30+ frames, with little discomfort. I have never encountered issues like those mentioned here. I took your advice and bumped the PC version to Direct x11 after viewing this video. The performance was immediately awful. 10fps max, and tons of artifacts & freezes. I then reverted to dx12. Same freezes and 10 frames. I dont know what I broke, but it wrecked my VR experience. Moral of the story to those reading this: if it isn't broken DO NOT FIX IT. I am not sure why these settings were all well and good until today, but I sure wish I wouldn't have messed with it.

Not sure why, but the reverb g2 seems to be more sensitive to stuttering than other vr headsets i've tried, and it's only when moving my head in combination with specific games where the frame rate suffers. It almost looks like it's doubling frames or something when it happens, or loses tracking for a single frame and reverts to an old position. Much more annoying than just pausing stutters. I've tried recording it through the lens but even filming at 60fps doesn't capture it.

At this point in time it is unfortunately simply impossible to get the game to run perfectly smooth. This is just the reality. Hopefully Asobo can further optimize the game engine and improve things. Anyone who has been playing since PC launch will remember how poorly the game ran in the early days compared to now.

I disagree sir. I have everything set to Ultra and even increased Anisotropic filtering to 16 and the setting below it from 6x6 to 8x8 and I am getting in excess of 100FPS.

Ive been virtual flying since 1991, and FPS has always been top of my list for immersion. You should really try BMS, as it is an absolutely stutter free and truly immersive experience with the PICO, 4090 and 13700K with solid 90fps ,at the highest game settings (render 3896x3896 could be set lower but not needed) SSW off godlike mode. Showcase of how VR should feel especially when flying fast and low. (despite the basic graphics)

m.2 hdd access gives major hitching in my vr games. Maybe an Intel thing because they don't provide enough pci express lanes to the CPU. 16+4 on my 9900k, 16 for the GPU and 4 for everything else on the mobo

I remember another KZfaqr who flew Simms in VR stated that moving from the AMD 5850 to the AMD 5850 x3d significantly helped his stutters and possibly he might have said stopped it. Something about the extra cache onboard eliminating that problem. Night and day difference.

When it comes to studders in MSFS in my opinion it is mostly linked to ONE thing, VRAM. I had a HP Omen 30L gaming computer with a Ryzen 5 5800X 48 Gig of 3200Mhz DDR4 Ram and an Nvidia RTX 3060Ti. It should be able to run MSFS well and for the most part it did. However I would get stuttering no matter that I tried and I spent countless HOURS tweaking my system, MSFS, my Reverb G2, Steam VR, Open XR tool kit, Resizable Bar, Geforce settings and NOTHING made a difference..NOTHING. When I would analyze what my system was doing in developer mode I always noticed my eight Gig of Vram was ALWAYS maxed out, ALWAYS. I got a new gaming PC with the same Ryzen 5 5800 but in the X3D flavor with a lot of extra cache the 5800X does not have. I got a RTX-4090 with 24 gig of VRAM and just like that all the stuttering is gone in both VR and 2D mode right out of the box with ZERO adjustments. I was flying around NYC with the Orbix add on scenery as well as other add ons and on my new system it was so silky smooth and clear that it was hard to believe I was not in an actual airplane. When I look in developer mode I have seen MSFS use 16 gig of VRAM so no wonder why my old system had stutters, it was constantly having to swap things in and out of memory. So even with 12 gig cards you are going to see some stutters, not as much as I was getting on my old system and not as often but I really believe VRAM or lack of it is the problem and I do not think there is any way around it.

DX 12 has one killer feature for 40 series Nvidia GPUs, not available in VR though: AI Frame generation. Literally takes 4K fps from the 40s to 190 FPS!!

I think the PSVR2 running butter smooth at 120 hz in a racing sim like GT7.....well it kind of shows how badly optimized most pcvr games are! You have a 4090 beast with a top of three line CPU and memory for days, and you're still struggling with stutters and dialing stuff in.....console VR is suddenly sounding pretty good and like easy street! 🤣

@@-racingfan2014 yeah exactly, but it's plug and play higher end VR technology, an it looks and runs great. That's all the people new to VR will care about. No one wants pcvr tweaker madness....apart from maybe us hardcore pcvr simmers! Kidding

@@jamiesalmonsculpture8599 I actually agree with you on that one. Or you should be able to ask the game/sim to auto set the best quality achievable with the hardware available, rather than you need to dial your settings in many different applications. MSFS 2020 would not be a candidate for Xbox VR, if there would ever be such a thing, would be too demanding due to a poorly optimised sim I believe :-(

I *wish* I had stutters in VR! Ever since the last update, every time I try to switch to VR, the game just crashes to desktop. I found info that if I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it, it should fix the problem. And it did. For a few days. Then it just went back to crashing when switching to VR again. Honestly, very pissed off at the moment because I only ever use the sim in VR!
