Ok... so Cleveland 4mab cranks will run around 8000 ish fully sorted. The rpm issue was a harmonic in the crank at 7400rpm. This is why clevos are set at 7200rpm. It can do more, is you spin it over 7400.... but that is drags n big money, when not needed. They made great torque and power below 7200. IF you want to grin, hear a clevo at 9000. If you want to understand the valve sounds and exhaust notes.... check dynospin on KZfaq. Best video you'll see.

The Ford 351 Cleveland powered cars dominated Pro Stock Drag Racing during the seventies. They routinely turned 10,500 rpm’s using extensively modified factory iron heads and blocks. No aftermarket aluminum components were available back then. Check out Tim Halstead on his KZfaq channel, DragBoss Garage. All Cleveland dynos screaming around 8000 rpm’s 🏁

I built a Cleveland that MIGHT be similar to this one. I put a Holley 850 on it with a "high flow" center body. That sits on top of a Weiand Excelerator Intake. It has 4V heads that had polishing and radiusing done on the intake and exhaust ports to smooth over the flashing (no porting is necessary). The cam was custom done by Ron Isky and it features an advertised duration of 284/292 and at .050 it is 236/244 (intake/exhaust) with 110 degree lobe centers. The pistons are TRW forged. It is not stroked. The headers are Hooker Super Comps with 1 7/8" primaries feeding into dual 3 inch collectors and exhausts. The whole thing is designed to be most efficient from 2.000 to 7,000 RPM. The mufflers are HUGE and come from a large cargo truck for high flow and low noise. All that power is channeled into a small block C-6 with a 10" 3,000 RPM stall convertor which drives a custom cut Cadillac driveshaft and a limited slip Ford 9" rear end with 373 gears and I stuffed all that into a 63 Ford F-100 pickup truck. It's a lot of fun to drive!!

G'day, they've both got the same firing order, depending how they are buillt they can both sound close to the same I reckon. Once you get into higher compression ratios and aggressive cam timing they all seem to take on a similar sound with the ol' 13726548 explosion order. Even a modified 4.6-5.4 4V has a similar sound with same firing sequence I reckon. I've got nothing against the 351 Windsor's, they're reasonably thin on the ground here and few were fitted as factory equipment here in OZ. You can get some cubes with that taller deck, that's for sure.👍

Can you imagine rolling up next to this at a light in your newer mustang with your girl in the seat next to you, you revving at the older man driving it and he cracks a slight smile, you take off at the green light like a bat out of hell and smoke the tires, at the next light you look over and the car the older man is in, is noticeably louder when you realize he just flipped the switch to the cut outs on the exhaust. You start to sweat and notice, now he’s not smiling, the light goes green and the car beside you violently rattles your ear drums and leaves you in the dust, then the older man goes back home to tell his wife that story and she says, your son will never life that down. Based on a true story!

351C was probably the best small block of the era. Stout block and by far the best heads. And before anyone replies "it's not really a smallblock"... Yes it is/was. The only "big block" feature of the Cleveland was the bellhousing bolt pattern.
@Mr357Cleveland
@Mr357Cleveland 28 күн бұрын
Even the Bellhousing bolt pattern is the same as the Windsor, only the 351M/400 is bigblock pattern. And you're right, definitely not a big block, the same bore centers as a Windsor as well.👍

Bought a 70 M code Mach 1 in 77, thrashed on it for 3 years until it got rear ended. Pulled the engine, rebuilt it and ran it in a circle track car for 4 years, dropped a valve due to a broken spring. Pulled engine, sat under work bench for 20 years. Rebuilt again, now it's in my 68 F 100 with the original Mustang 4 speed toploader. It lives an easier life these days but still pulls 6800 with ease if you want it to, great engine.

I’ve owned my ‘70 Mach 1 with the “M” code Cleveland for 41 years. A previous owner replaced the original engine with a lower compression ‘72 Cleveland so I bought a four bolt block and a pair of high port heads and built something special for it.

It’s insane how closely the 351c sounds to a 4.6 4v, same firing order and all
@Mr357Cleveland
@Mr357Cleveland 4 ай бұрын
The firing order is a very large part of it. Ford Australia introduced the 5.4 4V here in 2002. One of my Uncles bought a new BA GT-P early on, with the 290kw tune they had and an aftermarket exhaust fitted, we couldn't believe how similar they sounded cruising around and at WOT to an old warmed over Cleveland. They switched to a supercharged Coyote in 2010 here, and as you would know, the different firing order equalled a very different sound. 13726548 is a magic set of numbers, I wish that FoMoCo had stuck with it, Cheers.

@@Mr357Clevelandya I’ve got a very similar sound cause I have a 2003 mustang Mach 1 with the 4.6 4v and I can take her to 7000rpm currently but I’m building it to make 500+whp and 8000+rpm
