Ford DPS6 TCM Shifting Problems

The Ford DPS6 (DDCT) has experienced several problems primarily related to the dual clutch assembly however, shifting problems can also occur which involve the TCM (a.k.a. shift motor). Fortunately, the TCM is external and is fairly easy to replace. First, validate that the TCM is the issue.

Shift motors are not covered under the extended warranty. Had my TCM replaced which was covered however had to pay out of pocket for a bad shift motor.

Due to previous issues, it would probably be best to check with Ford to see what the current warranty timeframe is.

Must have been a really good barrel of whiskey the Ford engineers were drinking that night when they developed the DPS6 transmission. Nothing about this transmission makes sense other then "Simplicity" , probably low cost to produce but will cost 10 times the amount for Ford in the end. Is what it is. Sign up for the class action while you can.

I have Renault EDC DC4 and I think its same TCM uses. Why are they had problems and need to replace? Any method to fix it or protect? I heard its causes coz of weak battery or heat issue. Is it correct? Any external item for that TCM cooler? Thanks.

The TCM/shifter assembly is bolted to the transmission.

I DON'T BELIEVE THEY PUT THIS AWFUL TRANSMISSION ON FORDS TILL 2010' OTHERWISE ITS UNDER THE PLASTIC AIR FILTER BOX ON THE RIGHT SIDE.

It's September 2021 and in August they said maybe December but likely 2022 when they'll have some in, ah but there are other people ahead of you.

Yea, FORD has extended the Warranty but FORD dealers don't want to honor the warranties and run customers around with BS for months and months because they can't fleece FORD for warranty repairs like they can fleece FORD customer victims. FORD 'Warranties' are really 'CONDITIONAL WARRANTIES', based on whether the dealer feels its in their financial interest to honor them or not...and most don't.

Those problems come from bad grounding need to clean the paint from battery ground on the frame and the 2 grounds to transmission on body frame under air cleaner resolves the problems

@@RKCorinth if you replace it with a new unit it needs reprogrammed, however if you put in a used one it will work without reprogramming

@@cookierepairprojects4544 put it in a used one? A used transmission? Also I heard you can reprogram the TCM with Forscan + OBD2 device.

Has anyone with actual mechanical/engineering background confirmed the ground to be the issue? Fordtechmakuloco made a video about the ground but that was in 2011/2012. Seems weird that Ford would never change that ground setup.
