Ford F-150 P144C Code Fixed

I had the Evap code P144C popping up every few months and then weeks and then days.
I tried the ole “clean the seals on the capless gas tank system” trick...didn’t work!
Changed the purge valves on top of the engine...Didn’t Work!
Took the purge valve on the charcoal canister off and cleaned it out it back on...Didn’t work!!!
The “Fix” for me was when I Changed out the charcoal canister & purge valve!!!

Thanks for posting this vid, even though its 2 yrs old it definitely helped me finally fix my f150, mime was going dead at red lights, rough idle, shifting funny. Put the canister on and fixed the issue. Between the canister and the purge valve, i have spent just $175 but the ford dealership quoted me $850!!!

Replaced purge valve 1st. No luck. Then this vapor canister. Fixed my code p1450 and added 2.2 mpg avg to my 2017 f150 2.7 Eco boost. Thanks for the video

Thanks for making this video. Changing the vapor canister fixed my P144C code, make sure you get the right canister based on the size of your fuel tank like mentioned in the video.

I literally laughed when I heard you say you already changed out the purge valve which is my current code, P 1450. I wanted to plan ahead and saw this was a problem in the comments section of the guy who posted the purge valve fix.

@@KZfaqCert so far I’ve only got P1460 (if I can recall correctly) and it was the purge valve. It hasn’t coded on me since. Knock ✊ on wood 🪵.

Are you talking about the vapor canistor purge valve?

@@Shaggyman1027 that’s the one. It’s right on top in the back by the firewall. Easy to see but hard to get to because I got a decent size oil pan myself. If you catch my drift. Rockauto had an alright price compared to my local dealer. The clips were a pain because they technically have a tool for them. So just imagine having a belly, having to swap out something in the way back by the firewall, with the wrong tool. Fun!

Thanks for the video! My 15 3.5l ecoboost started throwing this code and my mileage went from 22mpg highway to 16mpg highway. Performance was still there but the mileage was horrible. Thanks again!

As you said, the purge valve is on the engine. The valve in the canister that you replaced is the vent valve.

Were you having issues with the fuel nozzle clicking off during fill ups too? I don’t have any codes but have rough idle and the fuel nozzle issue. Might replace the canister and see if it helps.

How many miles were you at when you started getting this code?My '16 has been giving me fuel cap codes for the past year(started @40k...followed fordmakuloco's procedure for re-lubing the capless systems with the funnel and silicone spray,etc..worked for a few weeks and came back,so I've been just clearing the code and sendin it until I can find time to take it in for warranty as this falls under powertrain warranty....the other day,it did it AGAIN,with the message for the cap on the info screen,BUT,this time I also got an MIL with the usual cap code and now,the purge on boost code....I think the charcoal canister is the culprit....Thanks for the video,cause now I have a starting point to troubleshoot and try to just repair it myself....I can't have any downtime waiting for 2 weeks to get it back and the dealerships around here are all out of loaners...shit,it's cheaper to just buy a canister,than it is to get a rental..LOL

I had about 40-45k miles on my truck when it started. I tried the warranty route but mine is a 2015, and when i made it to the stealership they told me I had missed it by a month. Buy since changing it out I've been code free.

Idk about the strong exhaust smell, but mine has always smoked at start up, only last 30 seconds at most.

I think I have this problem on an Escape. I replaced the purge valve near the engine but I still get a P144C whenever I accelerate up a hill. Why would the computer incorrectly diagnose this as a purge valve problem?

So was this you problem? I have a 2015 expedition and its giving me the p144c code. I just replaced the valve ontop of the engine and code still there.

The computer is telling you there's a flow issue. It's not specifically pointing to a part.

I just went off roading in mine and crossed a couple rivers and now mine is throwing this code! The weird thing is my mpg has actually gone up since the check engine light came on 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m going to go ahead and replace this and see if it fixes the issue

@@davejoseph5615 idk haha maybe there was a loose wire, or somehow gotten into the charcoal canister. I’m not sure. This did solve my check engine light though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Same on my truck! The hose that connects to that purge valve on there is chewed through. Did you get yours fixed?

No, it went away and would come back after a week in the beginning and then it would come back quicker every time.

No sir, it still boosted fine but it did stumble a little bit at idle!

@@MavsMegaFan the rattle is your wastegate being loose, it doesn't affect performance but is very annoying.

Either way I can't remember if I did or didn't. I think I had a code but don't think I had a message, but assuming the message pops up with the code, I'd have to say no codes. Sorry that sounds confusing. I'm guessing You have that happening now?

@@KZfaqCert yea I get the check fuel fill message on the dash and after some time it throws the check engine light but this time it gave me the p144c code. The code I got first time was fuel fill cap well there isn’t one. I’m guessing it’s all tied together somehow

@@Mac-fe5pm look behind your backseat, there should be a small funnel. Take the funnel and a can of silicone based lube. Spay a squirt on the plastic gate, and then take your funnel and run it all the way in and all the way out about 30 times, spray again and repeat.

@@KZfaqCert I did that the first time I saw the message and it didn’t fix it. The message just went away one day and now it’s back. Went to dealer about my 144c code and they didn’t have the canister so changed the solenoid on one I have but code still there. Do you have to clear it with a scan tool? Disconnected the battery and did the kam reset but light still on

If it’s the same as my 2015, the canister is located under the drivers side rear.

@@elchulo950 should be on frame rail. Let me Know if it works, it was the only thing that fixed mine, I changed plugs, and purge valve on top of motor with no success. this was the only thing that fixed it.

Just had the same code pop up on my truck yesterday on my 2013 f150 ecoboost 3.5l. But apparently the vapor canister is $400 from dealer and about $230 aftermarket wish had your luck paying only $140 for the canister. And also going to be replacing the purge valve since it’s common that they fail thats what I have read and since the part is not to expensive and just past 150000 miles I think it might be time to replace it. But thank you this video help me narrow it down of what it was. But I’ll keep you updated when I replace them as well.

To me purge valve is located on top of the engine that is the vent solenoid 🤔

The code is misinterpreted. It's says purge flow performance during boost. Not purge flow sensor. Not specific to any one part.

Yo I replaced the one on the front of the engine, I saw ur video on a video about it and I still have the issue autozone says it’s the $30 part that’s my issue so you know it’s location
