The best way to check the operation of the transmission! It's a ride on a hot day for 2 hours in traffic. And see how the work will change. I have a new clutch, Tcm... the latest firmware. There are no errors. 2 hours in traffic jams and the car starts twitching 🤷‍♂️

Replaced my 2014 Focus' TCM at 98500 miles. Under warranty thankfully before 100k. 6 months later get a letter in the mail from Ford stating it's now under warranty for 150k. Now being a year later at 102k miles it's shuttering only after being driven for 30 mins on country roads. Only fix I've had working is pulling over and turning on and off the car. I'm more than likely wrong, but feel like the DCT gets hot going up and down hills and doesn't like it, and/or the computer in the car gets stuck on "uphill transmission mode". Not to mention how bad the electronic manual shift buttons are, they are laggy as all hell can be.

Going to try your clutch scrubbing method soon. I don't even like my car going over 4k rpm so a bit weary. Will try it after an oil change +100 miles.

@@walt436 The 2.0 Duratec engine can handle as much throttle as you want to throw at it, and it'll run forever. Good luck.

Lift your foot off the gas and let it shift to higher gear.

This is what mine does… only when i 1st take off.. once i start driving it it will clear up.. untill i park it sn it sits

Yeah pretty much a normal characteristic. Just drive it hard occasionally when it shudders and it should go away for a while.

Did you ever find a fix? Mine has been doing this since I bought it a year ago. It’s a 2014 and had 110k on it when I first bought it.

I did this and it took the shudder away completely, so basically my clutch is on its way out and until then she wants it rough until shes kaput? 😅

My clutch was replaced at 57K miles due to leaking input shaft seals and the TCM died around 72K miles. I’m now just over 113K on the clock so about 55K on this clutch. For the most part it shifts pretty dang smooth but sometimes especially after driving around 30 minutes or so it will shudder slightly between the 1-2 shift or the 2-3 shift. Nothing crazy yet. What is the typical life of a clutch pack? I’m thinking about starting to collect the parts to do the job maybe next summer. LuK clutch/fork kit, input shaft seals and maybe a pair of shift motors.

I've owned several focuses. The new clutches would start shuddering for me after 20,000 miles. If you drive aggressively once in a while, that should keep shudder down. The worse it shudders, the more frequent you can attempt hard driving. As long as the shudder isn't out-of-hand, the clutch should last until a fork seizes (or slave cylinder bearing fails) so 100k miles or so.

@@stuartgrimm6048 I have the same exact problem as yours, only in 1st and 2nd gears after 30 mins of driving, and after that its smooth again above 3rd gear, (2016 focus) no check engine lights.. have you had any solutions?

@@elsonkothapalli The only ‘permanent’ solution is to replace the clutch. Although as Ben says it is good for 20-25k miles and then starts doing it again. I would try scrubbing the clutch by driving it hard from a stop a couple of times and see how that works. I’m hoping to get another year out of mine before I drop the transmission and do the job. It’s currently at 60k.

Being so low miles, it'll likely have the original black seals in it ? Any oil leaking ?

How much did you charge to fix this? My 2012 focus is doing this but waaay worst. Bought it cash 3 months ago and the guy didn’t tell me the transmission was bad when he sold it to me. Shifting from 1-2 gear the jerks are so bad my car almost completely stops in the middle of the road :(
