Which recall number is that? Can that bushing be installed in the older trucks that the bushing in the cable always fails?

Thank you so much for this video. My 2019 Ford Fusion got this shift system fault error on August 27th, 2023. I called Ford and tried explaining the issue to a Ford service advisor over the phone, but he kept insisting that it's my transmission that has failed, and that I need to tow it in. Here's the other problem: The Ford dealership also won't be able to look at my car until end of October. I called three other Ford dealerships and they all didn't have any sooner appointment. So, I towed my car to the Ford dealership where it sat there, until I discovered your video three days ago (September 6th). I bought the bushing and the cover part for a total of $4.90 at the dealership that had my car, towed my car back home (luckily I have Emergency Road Service through Geico, so towing was covered), and it took me approximately 7 minutes to install. Ford needs to extend the recall to 2019 Ford Fusion as they still came with the old white flimsy bushing. Again, thank you very much for your help. ✌🏿

After many years I been on the internet this video is very informative and I have to say thank you as I was stuck- I must add that if you are stuck in reverse or like I was parked but it said neutral you have to have the transmission lever to position P. SO I had it in N car off I then lightly two clicks to the left or towards the front end and then it was in P then the part would fit on top aligned

Great video my 07 JK had the same shift cable bushings failure under the shifter left people stranded who didn’t know how to remove shift lever cover and pull lever. Everything has problems. EVERYTHING 👊🏻

Good information Rich. I have been keeping an eye on mine, no problems so far; but I just receive Safety Recall Notice 22S43/NHTSA Recall 22V413. It basically instructs me that when parts are available, we will let you know. As for now set your parking brake when you shift into park and see that the instrument cluster shows a park position. Thanks for the heads up, before Ford let me know.

You can fix it with two zip ties temporary. Run one through shift cable where the bushing goes leaving a little gap for the second to go through, run the second through the first one with the cable on the shift linkage, then wrap the second around the shift linkage and pull both zip ties tight. I ran like this on my car for three weeks until my replacement came in. Just recently put one on my nice’s car, until she could get it in to the dealership. Hope this helps, they seem to break at the worst time, keep a few zip ties in your vehicle just in case.

Just happend to me this morning on a weekend and my local dealership is closed, went to local parts store and they had a Dorman Bushing Kit Part#14057 ($20 tax incl.) and it was a perfect fit, worked like a charm. Thanks for this, install process was pretty much the same.

Glad I found your page this happened to me while driving 2 weeks ago its after I make a u turn came out of reverse into drive starting rolling back wards. No one was hurt but very dangerous. Towed it to the dealer and there was 2 additional recalls. No more fords for me. Fusion 2013

No need to even tow, if it plops off you can put it back on the nob. If it doesnt line up you can(WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON) shift it to drive and push in and place it on the nob and you will be able to shift again. While this issue occurs and your waiting for new part or whatever shift slowly as that also helps it not fall off.

Happen to me I used a zip tie just to get moving. Fixed it the next day correctly thanks for the video

In the mid 90s there was TSB for the AOD transmission kickdown. Very similar part/setup. Rubber part replaced with metal insert and clip. That part could eventually wreck the trans if disconnected. Not a safety recall cause it can't really cause injury.

Awesome video! I was fighting to get mine on.. Mostly because I was doing it from the wrong side and bush was already gone. Now I wont have to shift my car manually with the E brake on just to get to work and back. Thanks Ford! Shit design, if the center post going through the bushing was longer you could at least get by with no bushing. The post is so short your 99% F'd when that bushing goes..

Good information Rich. Darn engineers are drunk on plastic ! Its also a good practice to use a razor blade or scissors to open those plastic bags that parts come in. For one, it will allow for any printing on the package to still be readable once its opened and it helps if the part has to be returned to the parts guy or parts store as they usually will want to read the print on the bags. I started doing that after a parts guy told me one day years back, "I can't read this so its not returnable". Happened to be an expensive part so I changed my way and have never had issues since. Sometimes I will keep the bag and the old part too for a spare and tape the one side that was cut open, at least I have the part number saved with the old part.

My bushing doesn't look bad but the car is 9 years old and I was woindering how to pry it up to replace it with the new one. Thank you again.

Made this change on 2017 MKZ with 2.0 motor. Nothing to remove, just pop in bushing and clip back on arm and good to go.

Quick tip - was told by parts guy. Drop the bushing in a cup of hot water for like 5 min. NOT boiling just hot water. (I filled a normal coffee cup less than half with water thru in microwave for 1 min)The bushing gets a lil playable and pops right in. And becarful putting the dust cover on, you can push the car into I assume neutral. As my car started rolling back on me. lol. Use the parking brake. And I asked my Ford dealer and they said there was no recall on my 17 Fusion for this part. Bushing and cap were 14$ for me at Ford dealer.

The cable is in a different place on my 2015 Fusion Titanium Hybrid. It is down in front in a vertical position in a very easily accessible place. Visual inspection shows it fine right now, but I will replace when the part gets here. Thanks for the part number.

You’ve got to get this fixed. I’m in a situation now where no auto has the bushing but the ford dealership and that’s 103 dollars. Then I have to take it to the shop to get put on . I have the fact that car shops will charge you high labor price for this situation. So this is just a temporary fix until you take it to get done somewhere

Good report sir! I received a recall notice in the mail about this along with a couple other recall issues for my 2017 Edge. While you are on transmissions, is there a way to pull the transmission lines to the cooler and let the transmission pump new clean fluid thru the transmission. I changed my fluid by draining four qts. At a time and driving it to mix it and draining four more qts. and doing that three times. That sucks.

LOL ... The local dealers gave us a 3 to 6 week wait to get the part in. I ordered one on Amazon and replaced it August 19, 2022. Today the replacement stopped working so tomorrow I'll grab the spare and do it again. our Ford dealers here want us to bring the car in to go over all recalls, but say it could be months before they are able to fulfill the recalls. Thank goodness I grew up following my daddy under every car hood and into every lawn mower motor.

I have a 2013 Ford escape I happened to put the vehicle into park. Heard a knock noise coming from the transmission area while putting my vehicle in park when I came back to the vehicle put it in drive. My transmission was damaged and wasn’t running properly. I came in searched. Found your video here on KZfaq then went to look at the same part. You are replacing and not mine is missing is it possible that it can damage the transmission like this and would be liable because it is under recall ?

A spherical plain bearing would work best in place of this bushing but cost slightly more. A rod end bearing with its threaded shaft could replace that whole end piece. It operates a lot and plastic will continue to fail

i seen alot of those bushings go bad on AOD TV cable ends.the slack created really reduces TV movement range.

I had this happened to me yesterday it says shifter system fault look under the hood and bushing wasn’t their 😢so I wasn’t able to drive sinces it will go right back to park , I hooked it back on and it’s working so now On my way! To get a shifter bushing to put it on

Can you change the part that the bushing pops into? After many attempts at getting bushing into hole it cracked.

Most shops would have sold the customer a new transmission.

Rich, I got a "Silly" Issue with my brand NEW 2022 F-150 LARIAT. It's got "347" Total Miles on it. I got in it yesterday and I was adjusting the Drivers Electric Seat, when I was moving it in the forward direction, I sounded Like there was Gravel in the Rail's / Screws as it was moving forward?? GOT MY ATTENTION Right Quick. And Of course it don't do it All the Time?????? Is there anything that I can Use to Lube this Rail with to see if that's all it is? I can see some of what looks like Whiteish like Grease at the Front of the Inboard and Outboard Rails. Don't look like your typical White Grease. Looks like a Silicone product. I do not want to "VOID" any Factory Warranties with some Inferior Lube?? Thanks for any help.

I’ve done this on a few 2014 escapes. Our local ford dealer said no warranty. They don’t sell the bushing either, only the entire cable.

I had my car stuck in park at Tim Hortons drive thru because of the bushing failing. Cold -14c morning and some very angry commuters who couldn’t get their morning coffee because of that bushing leaving my car stranded. It took me 30 minutes to figure out what happen and to get my car back into drive. This happen before the first recall was issued and the Ford dealer replaced the bushing with the exacted same one that was failing. Needless to say I have the updated bushing sitting in my glove box waiting for the day when the replacement fails.

My brother had his pickup on Jack stands while he was under it trying to fix that and somhow the truck came off the stands and drug him around his lawn till it hit a tree. Banged him up good he's lucky it didnt run him over.
