Brian May (that guitarist) is also an astrophysicist. I can remember when this album came out and this song was EVERYWHERE. Their performance at Live Aid is epic and iconic. 🔥

It was outdoors...250,000 + were there...check out LOVE OF MY LIFE live in Rio...the crowd sings to Freddie...guitarist Brian May wrote it and WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS which usually follows this was written by Freddie...

Greatest stadium anthem ever. The story goes that Mercury and May wanted a big stadium anthem that the crowd could sing along to. Freddie came up with We Are the Champions and May wrote We Will Rock You. They then put them together on the single. There aren't many songs that you can identify by 3 notes (not even notes, just stomp, stomp, clap) and that are so easy to sing along to. It is really genius. You can just start the rhythm without any instruments and you can get thousands of people clapping and singling along. It's brilliant.

The wig Freddie was wearing here was from a new video they had just done for their album The Works: "It's a Hard Life". The video is absolutely over the top, but the song is a gem. I'd love to see you react to that. And yes, to We are the Champions, live.

It was written in reaction to the audience singing back to them in concerts, so Brian wrote a song specifically dedicated to the audience to sing back to/interact with Queen. Freddy had to (frequently) firmly remind people that We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions ARE two separate tracks because they are two separate songs

One thing I didn’t mention about the live aid concert, was how BIG it was. (technically, it was two concerts. One was held in London, while simultaneously, another was held in Philadelphia. Queen performed in London, for a crown of 72,000 people! That wasn’t counting the millions of people listening to the live broadcast.)

This was the first Rock in Rio music festival January 1985 where 1.5 million attended. Held in rio de janiero, Brazil. 10 days headlined by the biggest artists of the day. Queen opened the festival and played again the following Sunday. Their performances was filmed and broadcast across Brazil to an audience of almost 200million in over 60countries. The audience you see here is between 80-100,000 people setting a record for the biggest paying audience ever. This was later released in the US on MTV

“The Works Tour in was one of Queen's largest tours and included the Brazil Rock in Rio festival-in which they appeared on stage at two o'clock in the morning in front of 470,000 people during the first night and 250,000 on the second night. The Boston Globe described it as a "mesmerising performance".”

This is their original song. It’s usually played along with We are the Champions. Freddie’s moves showed he had confidence, energy and sexiness. He was a brilliant singer and the original showman. His energy fed the audience. Extraordinary. You have barely scratched the surface of all their hits. So many bands have tried to copy them over the years. But there will only ever be one Freddie.

A little research puts the count of attendees at around 600,000 people. The album, News of the World, came out in '77, and We will Rock You was on it.

There are still stadiums singing to Queen! You can find them on KZfaq. I think the best one is from a Green Day concert. This was 20+ years after Freddy Mecurys death

In Queen's early days, the band met to discuss audience participation...how to really connect with the audience. Brian May (Queen's guitarist) went off by himself to write a song. Freddie went off at the same time by himself to write a song also. Brian wrote "We will Rock You"...this video, you just played. Freddie came back to the studio at the same time. Freddie had written, "We Are The Champions". I get these facts from a receinterview I heard with Brian May .....so, the source is reliable.

This song was very popular at my local roller rink in the '80s & all the teen girls replaced rock you with f you In the '80s they started using stadiums because there weren't any other buildings big enough for the rock groups to play in & even stadiums were sold out fast

The 80’s had a lot of monster concerts. The concerts from River Plate In I believe Brazil are mind boggling especially the AC-DC clips you can find but the wildest visual is from the Metallica concert in Moscow doing Enter Sandman. They pan the crowd and there is a little over one million people crammed into the stadium and the parking lot around it. It’s an incredible sight that I believe will be a long time before we see it again.

Oh you should have watched their performance at the Live Aid concert before this... The best rock set ever performed live. So I eagerly suggest you to watch it before watching any other hits. I think that video cut off the guitar solo at the end. It's a long solo. Yes, Queen wrote "We Will Rock You". It's so ingrained in our culture, I think people view it like "Happy Birthday", as if they think it always was. Queen came up with it in 1985. It took over our High School.
