Beautiful technique, but that’s not what I’d call a rushlight. It’s an elegant candle holder. A rushlight might have a conical candle holder on the side, but the main thing would be a small set of tongs on a stand to hold a tallow soaked reed.

If the material you used was brass, could make these holders usind the same method? Can you stretch brass like that?

I believe so. The temp needs to be controlled to keep from cracking.

You can, but you have to be careful about brass selection. Some types of brass and bronze are “short”, in that they crack when forged. Each alloy has an optimum forging range. Also, if you use a coal fire, you will have to clean out the fire pot well after forging any copper containing alloy before trying to forge weld. The copper contaminates the fire.

@@mattyal9347 So-called forging brass is what you really want, designated C37700 or 4614 (59% Cu, 39% Zn, 2% Pb ). Just below that is Naval brass, designated C46400 or 4611-12 (60% Cu, 39% Zn, 0.75% Sn ). Forge at 1300F, but not much more or it will melt. Brass will just barely "blush" at forging temperature. You might want to get 1300F Tempil Stick, which is a kind of chalk that melts at a specific temperature.

@@hiltonian_1260 thats a tough read. I doubt that what I do will require such knowledge. I'm mainly a scrapper or hobbyist wannabe. The only ingenuity I had turned out to be a failure when I thought that by adding copper to yellow brass would make it red brass.
