The Brine Crown's change in Path of Exile 3.19 Kalandra league significantly improved the scaling potential of this unique, from reduced cold damage taken to maximum cold resistance, this helmet has great synergy with Melding of the Flesh and Aegis Aurora. The Brine Crown has a lot of very good stats, and although it may not be a very interesting item overall, I wouldn't be surprised to see it used more often in the future.

8:11 I think the main reason this item does not used often is mostly because rare helmet is just far better then most of the unique item is the item itself is not build defining, and on top of that, you can miss out up to 18% phy taken as other damage source mod witch is a very important and rare mod that are crucial to the build defense nowadays.

@@thatgreengman I agree it is not a bad item, it is just a item in a very weird spot, it have couple of decent mod but the only mod that are important is the max cold res, other stuff you can just use a rare helmet and have no problem, but usually if you are doing 90% max res there is better option as well(aegis, purity of fire, or mageblood with cold res flask,or even small Custer etc)

The main issue is it's rarity. Bring it down a couple tiers and you'll see alot more use in ssf I believe.

I really believe GGG dropped the bag with the way they handle physical damage.. why can't they just copy last epoch and call it physical resistance. Phys taken as is such a cop out mechanic

Great series! I have always been making my own builds (since like, when we had 2 acts), generally being inspired by whatever cool unique triggered me to build around it. It has failed me a lot of times but has given me loads of fun over the years. Still most of the unique items you discuss here I have not come across at all and these videos give me so many thoughts on stuff I would like to try out. Thank you! I look forward to more.

@@dreamcore_gg Probably also the fact that the point it would be most used is close to leaguestart to stopgap Aegis and melding setups. But since it is so rare the market is probably incredibly slim, and it certainly does not help that probably no one knows this exists. At least I did not.

Best PoE content we are getting so far! Thank you very much! Additionally I think this a example of a great unique that is not used because of the current game constraints, like needing to cap spell supression because of T17, lack of options for effective phys damage mitigation ( you always resort to phys mitigation with the crafted mods), and still have decent offensive power. The game difficulty increases while the items are getting left behind or nerfed and this breaks the build diversity.

Awesome as always. Would be interested in your take on pyroshock clasp. It seems a viable way to mitigate phys for evasion elemental chars outside of the classical ways of veiled modifiers/lightning coil/cloak of flame/eldritch implicits. Could be useful on some builds to make use of the free slots that creates in chest or helmet? Ty for your content, helped me to understand the game better

Pyroshock is a cool belt but its main issue is the prerequisite of needing to ignite/shock enemies to convert their damage, which is also a problem shared by Kaom's Binding(needing enemies to be nearby). Once you have a setup which always shocks/ignites, this is not going to be a problem for the majority of gameplay but occasionally you will just get hit by a non-shocked/ignited enemy and take a lot of extra damage. At the same time, the amount of conversion is good on its own but not enough alone to be your only defence agaist physical damage, meaning you will need another method of mitigation. Theoretically armour is the go-to solution in this case as it's going to mitigate more damage against the resulting lower hit of physical damage. However, in the case of Pyroshock which lends itself to evasion builds, you don't have a lot of armour scaling on a typical setup, and the go-to is damage taken as, which has anti-synergy with enemy damage conversion mods as it's calculated on a different layer.

The Crown/Aegis/Melding setup is really cool and seemingly very powerful in a vacuum, but I think it falls victim to the same problem a lot of other defensive setups do - it requires too much itemization/passive budgeting. Only way to build a meaningful amount of damage for T17s with that setup is either through absurd investment or utilizing one of a small handful of meta damage skills, and even the latter may not be particularly cheap. A lot of defensive layers have fallen victim to this budget creep over the years and is kinda why defenses are fairly stale imo. This is also why meta skills are meta - they require the least investment to make damage.

A few years back I actually asked a question on the Boneshatter FAQ that was responded to by GGG. Specifically I was wondering if the self damage done by Boneshatter crit and be used to self-freeze. The answer was a unfortunate no. I intended to use Winterheart alongside Juggernaut's cannot be slowed below base speed to keep moving while frozen and get a 10% life regen per second. Additionally, the self damage cannot be converted, though is affected by "damage taken as" modifiers. So you could use the items in the video to mitigate the self damage of Boneshatter to make it more survivable.

Uniques nowadays tend to need to fulfill specific niche to see more uses in endgame given how crazy you can make a rare item for the slot. Should add another line that says all damage is taken as cold damage. Now it has a powerful niche and people will use it. Disregard melding, fire, lightning and chaos res, only stack cold and max cold, phys as cold. Balance it out with -3% max cold res, remove the armour and chilled ground thing.

Hey I was wondering if you could perhaps make a video (or a series) where you go through your thought process when creating a build. One thing I feel is lacking is ressources for people who would like to start creating their own builds instead of just following a guide to a T. Perhaps starting by skill choice, then explaining how to chose the ascendency, or simply how scale the build both offensively and defensively as to neither be dying all the time, nor dealing no damage ?

You answer your own question as to why this isnt used as much as it should be. Its T1 rarity. If it were Tier 3/4 it would be an easy SSF staple, but its simply too rare to happen across, and not build enabling enough to bother trying for with say Tainted Mythics. Also Gravecrafting.

I hope to see more Ward gear next league. Cureently we can get a lot of flat chaos damage that nobody is utilizing at all, mainly because Ward is a terrible defence layer only working for hits and you will need to use ward gear. So ES is better right? Kinda but in terms of raw damage ward is superior... But then it is really difficult getting proper life/es to fight off degen, and when your ward breaks.

More support for the ward mechanic would be awesome, but realistically they would need to make a heavy expansion on that system in terms of changes such as adding ward gear to core drop pool/adding new ward bases, adding new ward uniques and most importantly, adding ward clusters to the passive skill tree

hey, can you cover some ascendancies in a new series please? some are really poorly explained and on reddit, one half claims one thing, the other half claims its the opposit. for example, untiring. what does the 40% increased life regen count towards? the 1.5% of phys prevented, what counts towards the prevented pool? does self inflicted count? would there be a way to turn chaos damage into phys damage on forbidden rite to make yourself immortal? it says 1.5% of 10 seconds of prevented damage. does that mean it only starts 10 seconds after the first phys damage was prevented? do you only get one recovery instance every 10 seconds? or 1 every second? or one every hit? im having a real tough time judging wether that ascendancy is really really good or just mediocre at best with lots of investment into recoup and regen.

40% increased life regeneration rate increases all life regen by 40%(only life regen, not recoup, not leech etc.). Prevented physical damage is any form of damage mitigation. This will typically be(but not limited to) physical damage reduction(armour/APDR), fortify(less taken), spell suppression(less taken from spells) etc. but also includes block(blocked hits are prevented damage). It doesn't include things like Steelskin(this is not prevention, but instead just a different resources absorbing the damage) or Petrified Blood's delayed damage mechanic. There's no way to take chaos damage as physical damage in the game at the moment. The regeneration from Untiring starts immediately upon prevention, and lasts for 10 seconds. You can think of it as similar to how recoup functions with rolling 'instances' of regeneration which stack on top of eachother. A new instance is created whenever physical damage is prevented and there's no cap on how much regeneration you can get.

@@dreamcore_gg im confused, it says that much life is regenerated per second, not that the regeneration lasts 10 seconds. if i regenerate that much life each second for 10 seconds, then as long as i take physical damage, my leech would be insane as long as i got enough damage mitigation (armour stacker + fortify + doppelgänger + endurance charges). regarding 40% regeneration, most people claimed that it would also work for recoup, since recoup is supposedly life regeneration over 4 seconds. are you sure that recoup doesnt benefit from the 40% buff?

Fantastic series, honestly forgot that any of these existed (for good reason, most of them are vendor trash or serve a purpose only before endgame). Like the helmet doesn't even guarantee a chilled ground proc when hit, thats so bad. Actually thats why this unique is so bad: its only good traits require you to be standing still or getting hit. Very very bad in modern one shot poe

It's expensive because it's extremely rare and useful as a transitional item in earlier progression. That doesn't mean that it's used a lot though - only 22 people used this item in week 1/2 of the league in Necropolis SC trade

forgotten? tons of people use this? you dont see any because they just replace it when they have better solutions, better gear and dont need a stat stick anymore. isnt that just the known meta with this item? its great to get right away and wear while you fix the rest of your gear, much like many other "non-unique" modifier uniques

Tons of people? There were 22 people using this on week 1/2 of the league in SC trade Necropolis. It can be a useful transitional item, but not many are using it at all

@@dreamcore_gg i didnt play this league but that sounds absurd? i heard you say that and assumed you meant this week, not earlier. im not about to swap back and forth comparing names to get a rough idea of who played it this league even for a day, but worst retention ever for the game so kind of a weird league to analyze anyway. i usually personally sell a dozen or so per league and they go within a couple hours. theyve always been a hot commodity as long as ive known the item. ive also never seen it 1c. also considering its a crafting league im sure that plays its part by making the items you do want to be replacing it with much easier to get. ill take a note next league start, as i find it hard to believe its that unpopular.... now? another note, odd how the item can maintain 10c value with no trade volume

This series just makes me sad. GGG just adds shit to the game and then never cares about it again. We care more about the gear than them. PoE 1 is just a massive case of neglect that's hard to ignore when the devs are too lazy to nerf DD properly while buffing other skills. I quit this game until they fix the bloat and stop balancing around Ben and Nick's opinion so they can cheese the next Gauntlet. This game became the most try-hard shit and it makes me scowl just thinking about it. "just ignore the community and play SSF." Sorry, I have a life.
