Pretty neat. I've been doing that over a decade with a DMLS machine and titanium at work making medical implants. The "sponge" in implants allow the bone to grow into the pores
@stuartsamuel18795 ай бұрын
I was thinking of the same thing! I made a sort of sculptural light fixture for Stryker out of old implants, and, uh... hung on to a titanium wedge that I _think_ helps separate disks in your spine? It's a dense wedge at the front, dense down the 'horizontal' axis, allowing for a tapped hole on the opposite face (to pull it out/back?), but porous on the other, serrated faces. I have zero idea how I'd duplicate that in any sort of manual process, which is fun. :)

A surgical equipment rep brought some of this material into our office about 12 years ago. In this case it was being marketed as "trabecular metal", in that is somewhat mimics the inner trabecular pattern of "spongy" cancellous bone and allows good ingrowth for the retention of implanted prosthetics. I begged the rep to get me a larger sample because I immediately thought using a bored though cylinder of the stuff as a suppressor monocore. It's cool to see it happen for real.

I would love to see more testing on this. The HK G3 platform tends to destroy itself rather quickly if you try to put a suppressor on it due to overpressure so an in-house flow through design would be awesome. I don't care how quiet it is, I just want to be able to suppress my PTR-91 and still use NATO spec ammo without the receiver blowing out.

There's flow through suppressors out there that won't cost your first born child lol
@biffskeet7626 ай бұрын
@@noturfather1106 I said "in-house".. something light weight that's specifically designed by PTR around the roller delayed blowback action is what I'm hoping for. Time will tell. Also, I don't care how much it costs. I already have close to $5k invested in an outdated rifle designed in the 1950's so it's pretty obvious my fiscal irresponsibility outweighs my desire for a good deal.
