Found the Harley Engine Noise-Your Not Going to believe What Happened because I don't | 2004 Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic
Today I was able to open up the primary case on my 2004 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic and found the nut to the compensator has loosened up. I got lucky and very grateful I did not continue to use the motorcycle and had it towed instead. If I had ridden the bike home like this the damage would probably have been so much worst.

I'm glad you were able to take care of the compensator nut before there was any damage. A long time ago a friend told me to use the blue loctite on any nuts on my Harley due to the vibration. Since my mechanic skills were already limited, I decided to take his advice. I hope things work out with your family issues and that you get to do some riding this summer. I find getting out on my bike, even for a short ride, is mentally therapeutic.

Not that uncommon unfortunately ! Thankfully I found mine was loose by whining sound when you let clutch out hard on hill ,or when getting off throttle! I ve changed stock compensator cover twice and nut once. About a year ago ,started hearing it slip under heavy load .I watched a video by the legendary Scooter Tramp Scotty about compensator trick for Evo. I tried it & it worked. I took nut off and put a bronze bushing shim under the nut and torqued it up . No slipping since !

I just want to thank you for your time to make your compensator video, And also make a suggestion, I have done two different workings on my 08 compensator, and It worked great after the fourth try...First one at 33K miles, I had the sliding cam looking fine, but the "extension it slides on, at 30k is ready to be replaced, That time I ordered all new compensator, from Twin Power, .. very good part, and cheaper than HD..I did not know about the springs wearing loose, I installed and torqued It, put It together, and that seemed a little quieter, Then went to a eliminator, that started great, but It brought Its own type of annoying noise with It. By now I had been reading about the springs, being the main noise maker on the original. So I found that the 94- 04 springs in the old style spring pack could be used in the rotor, .same springs..Installed twin power back on with new springs, torqued to 160..but..Heres a lesson learned..dont just torque the bolt, and put everything back together like you are done.. wrong..torque the bolt, put the cover on with 4 bolts and no gasket and start the bike for a minute, with cover back off, torque bolt again, finding it now turns another quarter turn before reaching torque spec, So all those guys that torque the bolt one time and put It all together, Are Probably saying that year of comp is no good, but they just never got it tightened good. All compensators have wear items, but some cost 600 bucks.

You just put the loctite and tighten it with proper torque and proper tool to block from spining and you won't have any problem. Of course, you need to lubricate a bit all moving parts so that you avoid friction. It means that you lubricate the bolt and washer connection...

@@radiozvrk6784 This is the note I'm trying to tell you, If you just put on the locktight and torque the bolt, and think you did anything right, probably you got the torque wrench set right but, You didn't get the bolt tight !

Probs not the comment you wanna hear but .... ManI tell ya, There are thousands upon thousands of guys with bikes on KZfaq but out of that; Themost common thing I come across on the tube is HD with there engineering & quality problems and dudes always having to fix/patch or do whatever to fix them only within weeks to discover some new issue to repair. My god I thrash the living crap out of my bikes for years on end, drag race them, bounce them off the limiter, do burnouts you name it! And have I had to make any repairs??.....Hell no not one bit at all man. Makes me wonder? Why guys Just why? Is it the low powered bikes or the name? I just don’t know……My HD I had I pissed it off when the dam cam shaft & head shit it’s self after 26,000 Km and only one race, oh plus it could only put out 68 HP lol . Man I got more than that from a dam VStar 650 lol. And I consider myself as semi-retired now and may be that’s a title you could own as well seems your looking to label your intentions.

Did this ever effect how it started? I had to bump start mine just to get home. It was making this noise and I rode down the road with it and the clanking became super loud then went away.
