Thomas Hayes of Huntingdon, TN purchased his bright red with black vinyl top 1967 RS/SS350 in July of 1968 and kept it as his pride and joy until his passing just a few years ago. When I heard about the guy who wanted his Camaro placed on his headstone, I knew I had to give a real car guy’s car the video exposure it deserves.

Thomas Hayes was a very good friend of mine. This car actually sit in my back yard and I helped him scrape & sand it when he had it painted gold. I can even remember when the car was sitting on the car lot before Thomas purchased it. I was a few years younger than Thomas but him and his brother were friends of my brother and we later became best of friends. Thanks for the video, I know Thomas is looking down and smiling.

Lost my younger brother to bone cancer at 16. I found a couple 66 mustangs and we built one out of two. He loved that car. He only drove it around the yard, and it was stolen out of storage. When he passed we had a 66 mustang engraved on his stone. R.I.P Chris. Miss you brother

Thanks for sharing an Important part of automotive history. I priced out a new 67 Camaro Non-Rs-SS model with a small v-8 and 4 speed if I remember correctly. Price was like 2,400 and I was 11th grade HighSchool, Dad said No. Dad let me get a used 65 Dart Gt in Senior year, and I paid $36.00 a month. WOW. What memories.

Nice! Really like the 70 wagon. I own a numbers matching 72 olds 442, with a 455. Also a 63 galaxie 500, 292 v8. Second owner of both cars. I own a '67 RS/SS 350 Camaro convt. which I bought in 1987. The previous owner was killed as a passenger in a Corvette. Mine is also Bolero red. This car is very original and in tack. The steering wheel should have a horn ring that denotes SS/350. The 67 Camaro SS is the only car Chevrolet offered that year with the "new 350 engine" . My Mom had a 1969 RS Camaro convt, hugger orange , white hockey stripe car that she purchased new. She drove it 221K miles and sold it in 1982 unbeknownst to me while I was away on my honeymoon for $1800. I have the VIN and have looked for years for it. I still have dreams about finding it. I am however, happy to have the '67. As time has marched on, real ones are hard to find.

Not necessarily on the SS-350 badging. The Camaro was launched with a single SS option: 350. For the first half, these cars got grille, gas cap, and horn cap emblems with SS-350 on/in them. Mid year, about January, the 396 was offered as an SS option. At that point, the SS-350 badging was dropped and generic SS badging was used across both engines. Since this car was built the last week of December, it's likely that this is one of the first SS-350 cars to have generic SS badging.

I remember back in the mid 70s a neighborhood kid had a 1st gen Camaro,what stood out to me was that he had a RS/SS badge glued one over the other on the front flips,iike it was a mirrored image.pretty funky for sure,he took the RS off a 69 car so they were as close as possible in year to match.that 67 is as old as me and around the same shape too! Lol!!! Unfortunately nobody's looking to restore me! Lol,oh well. Aw,thought you would've popped the hood on the wagon or Some of the other ones,oh well. Some nice rides there,thanks again Patrick!!!

Patrick back in 1976 when I was 17 I bought a green 67 RS Camaro like this one except it was green with a black nose stripe & a 327 with 49K miles when I bought it. Believe it or not the couple who owned the Camaro prior to me traded it in on a new 1976 Granada at the local Ford dealership which is where I bought it. I drove it a couple of years & was rear ended really hard by two drunks in a Chrysler New Yorker! The Camaro was very totalled but I still think about it a lot even though I have had 7 69 Camaros since then! Even though I really like the Parnelli Jones Mustang I have now the old Camaros have always been special to me.

Sounds more like a loose lifter or it has a hydraulic cam & a lifter is collapsed from sitting & needs to pump up ! Thank you patrick for showing us that camaro! Love all things bowtie, but camaros are my fave..... I'm a 1967 model myself! Hard to believe there is a camaro THAT close to original, let alone a RS/SS 4 speed that hasn't been hacked or raced to death! A shot of the 67 only single traction bar would have been cool, a lot of guys don't know that only the SS or the Z cars had it. Hope the owner pulls a rotisserie ground up on her, make her as close as possible to showroom new. She's too close to original not too. Well done my friend👍

You know not all of them had the traction bar. I had an 11B built one without the bar. The factory assembly manuals back this up. It shows the dates when it was cancelled and then reinstated.
@hilleryclifford2367
@hilleryclifford2367 4 жыл бұрын
@@xp8364You're right. I wasnt going to get into all that in my comment. It applied mostly to the early production cars. Many of the cars built without the anti- hop bar received it at the dealership before they were sold, or owners were notified that they could have it installed after the sale.Also there are two versions, one round, one square.We can go on and on about it, but the fact remains that it's a unique '67 only deal that the vast majority of the SS and Z cars have. Had chevy put multi- leaf springs on the '67 camaro like the 67 firebird had to start with it, It wouldn't have been such a problem. As with any first year car continuous running upgrades had to be done to fix problems not sorted out or encountered by the engineers.

1967 was the first year for the Chevrolet 350 engine, a 327 with .240" additional stroke. This engine was a Camaro only option in 1967. Nice factory gold paint on the door jambs, Patrick Glenn Nichols.
