Hey thank you so much🎉 You did a great video review and quick posting❤. Excellent pros and cons flex nibs comparisson💯 You are absolutelly right about those Scribo flex price...but they are so tempting too😂 Please take care and it is super nice of you to have done this video and also, you're the first and only reviewing this gorgous pen🥇. 🖋️🎨📖📚🥂

Scribos are super nice indeed! XD But until then, I have my Pilot Falcon, which I enjoy a lot! It writes better than this Tanoshii steel flex nib, but that's to be expected and can't compare the two equally. When I do get a Scribo someday, it'll be an EF I hope! LOL, for me, it won't make sense to have a flexible medium that goes into BB flexing, unless I choose to use it for headers and larger lettering. I'm glad this video was helpful! Good lighting to show off the urushi art, too :D Thank you for suggesting this! ^_^ I would most likely not have gotten back to it if not for you - I had unboxed it last January and discussed it...but I was still pretty newby back then with video editing/review, so I dumped the video lol! So I think this was meant to be haha!

Hi Lao! I’ve never bought from FPR but I was gifted an ink sample from them from a friend. And I was given a Jinhao with a modified non from FPR-flex nib. So this pen is very interesting! I love to see all the art work on pens. I’m more drawn now to pens as collectible pieces…😂more money😢. But one of a kind pieces hopefully on the horizon. Thanks for sharing!
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
Oh, I hear you about pens as collectible pieces. I think that's like the end-game of fountain pens, but I don't really want to get to that point because they are literally so expensive at that point. I don't think I'd ever reach a financial pinnacle of my life where I would engage in collecting expensive art pieces in the form of fountain pens in my lifetime, but that's ok :D It's not for everyone! For now, I am ok with the cheaper end of art on pens that we can afford lol! Thanks for watching, my friend!

I own the standard "tanoshii" version, lacking the faux-maki-e finish. I swapped out the original FPR/Kanwrite nib unit for a finely adjusted Jowo nib unit, which significantly improved the pen's writing performance, turning it from mediocre to commendable. However, the clip remains excessively rigid and impractical to use.

At first I didn’t quite like this FPR nib, but I really do enjoy it now after having experienced a lot of different nibs. Their nib isn’t perfect by any means, but it is usable! But I agree, the clip is very rigid! I forgot to talk about that in my second run of filming this Lololl! Thanks for sharing your experience! 🤗

I have a number of FPR pens, also have this dragon pen and it is a wonderful everyday carry pen, with lots of variation and the lovely details. I have not found as many problems with this pen than my Magna Cartas. FPR is underrated, their ebonite feeds are lovely and the flex nibs are better than cost effective. They are family owned and customer service is fantastic.
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
Yes, the nibs are extremely cost-effective! I love how cheap the ultra extra fine steel nib is and I have yet to try their ebonite feed. I bet it will feel sooo so good with the gold nib. That'll be an investment if they come out with a pen body that I truly love. Or if I can fit their ebonite+gold nib into one of my Leonardos or my Kilk...that would be amazing. FPR truly is underrated and a wonderful family business!

Hi Lao, thanks for the in-depth review of this pen! Somehow I wasn’t aware of FPR… it’s not so common in Europe I think (Or everyone already has one ☺️.). This pen is interesting and a good price for what it is! I think your model is one of the prettiest.
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Mrs Alchemist! :D I do think I chose the prettiest of the bunch haha :D It's also a very neutral color to match any ink. I don't know if there is an FPR branch in Europe, but I'm pretty sure they ship internationally. It's like free shipping in US after 49, so it might be free after a higher number for EU like most retailers here in the US. They're a lovely small family business! ^_^

@@KenchanKrafts Yes... I learned that apparently I also like to match my pens and inks so your lovely pen is the most of "neutral" but still very extravagant. It's nice that you pointed out that it's a small business! Thank you

Thank you, Lao, for bringing this pen to our attention as a potentially more accessible way to explore urushi pens. I’ll sign up for their newsletter and wait for when it feels right to add one to my collection. I also appreciate the other commenters sharing their thoughts on the various nib options. I’m partial to the white tiger for its association with the Taoist Four Symbols (I could do with more Metal in my life). Do let us know if you ever become a partner of FPR and we may support your channel with our purchases.

Thanks, Helena! I'm very happy to see some fellow pen enthusiasts with FPR experience and sharing what they like, use, or don't like! The comments section is always a great resource, as well! This really is such a nice intro to urushi ^_^ I appreciate you saying that about being a partner with them -- I might reach out one day and see if they'd like to partner up! ♥And that's lovely that you have a connection to the White Tiger - it's also a beautiful design on this pen!

Thanks for sharing! I have done a gob of flex experimentation and I would put my FPR ultra flex as probably #2 on my list. (mine is on a twsbi vac mini) my favorite is stylosuite xwing harpoon flex nib. So delightful!
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
Ooo yeah, I definitely should have gone for the ultra flex option! Now that I look back since the line variations could have been similar to the Falcon nib or better. Who makes the stylosuite harpoon nib and where can one get it?

Interesting review on a beautiful pen. I like a nib that I can push on, a little bit but the more a pen cost, the less I'm willing to risk it. I don't have a flex nib but I think it's past time for me to get one.
@KenchanKrafts

Thanks, Teresa. I think this pen has potential and it's basically "custom - pick your parts" kinda pen, and I like that opportunity FPR gives us!
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
I just reread your comment and was like, I don’t think I remember seeing all this, why didn’t I respond to these points Teresa made?! but I see that you may have added them after! I agree, I would push much less on pens that were more of an investment (like my Falcon Pilot nib) and I push more on something I know I can easily replace. I think flex nibs are a great way to dip your toes into vintage writing and pens. So it’s not a bad thing to have at least one!

:D I'm surprised not so many people know about it, but then that is my own fault for assuming haha :D They're probably not terribly big among the social media platforms, so that could be why they're not as well known (maybe moreso towards outside of US). But they give back to the community, so they're a wonderful small family business.

Gold Jowo nibs are very nice - I have had a medium gold nib before and I love the softness of them! They can provide some small line variations when you put a little bit of pressure, but regular gold nibs are not "flexy" writers (so do not overdo the pressure). The Flex is indeed very expensive and probably best to buy only if you have a really good handle on flex writing! :) $230-$242 (after 10-15% discount) for gold nib urushi pen is quite a remarkable deal - if you like the design. So I would recommend the gold medium.
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 2 ай бұрын
Also, the 14k flex and 14k Medium are the same price!! Only the Ultra EF 14k is more expensive by about 20-30 dollars. The most expensive option comes with the ebonite feed, which allows for the ink to flow really well and you won't have as much railroading (when ink flow doesn't keep up with how much ink is being used for flexed lines).
