Prae Extreme: You reach the cutscene before the first boss, Gaius asks you to join him, you agree. You then go through a 4 phase Ultimate where you fight each of the Grand Companies and their factional leaders, followed by taking on the Scions in a final phase.

This garuda was painful. Usually she dies if even 7/8ths of the players are hitting their buttons before the first spiny plume mechanic even matters. Seeing her live to phase 4 multiple times hurt a lot. She died around when she normally dies in MINE

I love this series. As a new player it is super nice to seeing what other players are doing right/wrong and seeing how you help them makes me more inclined to try extremes.

Ah man, this entire video was pure nostalgia. Though i do miss the permadeath of old titan. Made that scramble to win much more hectic.

Man, that garuda EX is precisely the kind of duty where my patience hits it's limit. I would take the penalty eventually, not even because of the time spent, but to spare myself the frustration 😓 It's just not fun to struggle against your team instead of with them.

About Garuda ex. 1. You only need to HIDE behind those stones from Mistral Song, which boss will use only once these days. 2. Reckoning will deal full damage regardless of where you are, but damage will depend on amount of stones still standing. If people baited too many attacks into them or tank made boss or adds face it - well, good luck in next pull. 3. You don't really need Spiny Plume to survive the mechanic, which is great with how badly people control their murderous impulses. Just good gear and full hp will suffice, although a shield from healer will help. Or a tank LB if you push it at the right time.

For the Ghimlyt Dark Dragoon: I use a Macro for Dragon Sight as i experienced that targeting someone midcombat is a hassle, if you sort your Party layout, you can make a Macro that always targets a second dps no matter where Works also for your Chocobo XD

As someone who never experienced OG Prae, I'd love some kind of "Classic" version that's the original 8-Man version, perhaps minus the cutscenes.

I queued into thik as thok extreme or whatever that quest is and spent an hour struggling with randoms and it was hell. Keep in mind, it was my first time. And after a few failed attempts I explained all the mechanics we had seen thus far to try to get us past it. But after all my attempts we only got past the wall once, and since we never made it there I was completely blind to that part of the fight I wasn't able to carry us to victory. I was heartbroken.

I had a GOGOGO Tank in Ifrit Extreme yesterday. Aside from a mentor machinist, everyone in the party was a sprout and yet the other tank wouldn't give me a chance to explain anything. To make matters worse, whenever he pulled, he would tank Ifrit where he's initially positioned FACING THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM. After I quickly provoked and respositioned Ifrit, of course he wouldn't take the boss back when my stacks were high... and after I would die he'd be back to tanking the boss facing the middle of the room. After our third wipe, since the other tank wasn't listening to anything me or what anyone else was telling him, I tried to initiate a vote kick which somehow was rejected, and then the group vote abandoned. Oh well, at least the healers were smart and managed to figure out on their own that they needed to be away from the group when they had the debuff.

fun fact! you can survive without spiny with ebough mit! sadly I dont remember now how much you need exactly (and how much echo) but as long as you have wiped some times and have a sage/scholar you are good. I love getting EXs in my mentor roulette, they are fun and feels so rewarding to get the sprouts to clear. I also always tell them that there are discord comunities that do synced content, like crystal's sycn slayers or the general NA sync server and I bet there must be one as well for EU.

On Garuda EX I suggest just killing the Spiny Plume and tossing the shield away. You can raw mit the Aerial Shreik, Tank LB also works. Ideally you just murder Garuda before it. I don't think I've ever used Spiny to survive the second Shreik.

Hmm, Praetorium Extreme... Old 8 man version of it, but with the current 4 man limit? Not sure that'd be very extreme, though. Maybe with the updated hps on all the mobs as well, so everything just takes longer to kill than it used to. The side switching into an ultimate comment was an amusing idea too though.

There's a special thing on his royal fluffiness he regularly casts an aoe buff that buffs near mogs (15~16 secs i'd say, the buff lasting 60 secs). It seems like when one mog reaches 5 stacks they all get a buff (triggering moggle go round and pom holy see around 15:00 king casts a buff, a the targeted mog buff gets to 2 stacks and 1-2 seconds after another buff appears with multiple mogs on it and intantly they start casting PomHoly and Moogle go round, not sure about the info, but it fits pretty well the narrative) you have to take 2 tank positions (S & NW borders of the arena) with each tank having a tankable mog on you (the warriors) + one having the king. you taunt the king when the warrior you're not tanking has 3 buffs. also as the other mogs wander pretty much everywhere in the arena , tanking the king at the border reduces a maximum the buffing aoe area. so other mogs won't reach 5 stacks because they will mostly be further away. the other mogs are wandering in the arena, more often out of range of the king than inside if you tank him on the border of the arena. their autos are not too threatening for Dps & healers so it's absolutely fine to have them not tanked. When i run into this one on mentor, i often use target signs to prioritize targets putting barred circles on the ones who are low after explaining the strat and priority target on high hp ones. And as i often run mentor as Tank, i can taunt (and shirk if necessary) the king.

For Thornmarch Ex, it can be tedious as it takes a single person not listening and focusing one moggle to death to render all efforts useless. I've failed this way so much times and there's nothing to do about it except hoping that the next time you're sent into this hellhole, people will actually try to read the chat.

For the dragoon not using dragon sight on the first pull: I have my dragon sight macroed to be targeted at my focus target and sometimes I forget to focus the other dps and only realize the moment I actually use dragon sight for the first time.

was doing Odin the other day MINE as tank, i mess up the first pull since i didnt provoke after our MT ran out of mits, said sorry and then proceeded to keep an eye on their mits. but the group clearly had a player who had no idea what they were doing....on a basic level....as white mage. they would run around/stand in front of the boss(which i forget if Odin cleaves but still thats bad practice). never use AOE heals (or many heals/esuna at all for that matter) and mostly just DPS. we legit called them out multiple times and specifically tell them what to do since the fight is extremely heal heavy. they wouldnt listen so we told them to get off healer or leave, they said they would switch to DPS since thats their main job. so one of the DPS went healer and this problematic player went samurai. this was maybe 30 minutes of attempts they were still horrible. still liked to stand in front of the boss and not do positionals, constantly died to the most simple AOEs and while i dont have SAM unlocked, one of my party members mentioned they were never using their DoT or heavy hitter move. at this point i checked their info and they had all jobs level 70+ which is just...wow, id hope for at least a basic understanding of the game and your main job at that point we ended up not being able to meet enrage every time so we just disbanded due to the bad player and at least a few deaths (for everyone) during the massive bleed sections each time...sick ass enrage wipe though 🤣

Something random, Garuda extreme can be sync soloed by blue mage. That's how l learnt the spell.

if an extreme ends in timeout, you could offer to make a party finder for those willing for another attempt to regroup, and pass lead to a free trialer that queued in, so that they get a taste of the other method of doing old extremes. if anyone stops to see the offer that is, lol

One other thing about Garuda EX is that the spiny plume actually needs to be tankswapped, because if you hit 3 stacks you explode and wipe the raid. Nowadays this probably only matters in a MiNE group but when you took it to narnia with 2 stacks I got real worried

Yeah, was going to suggest it was likely due to the Wonderous Tales books dropping on Tuesday. I've never DF'd for them myself but I have thought about finding a group for them if one showed up on my list that I wasn't able to just solo but still wanted/needed to do for that week.

The ARR EXes are the reasons why many of us mentors just leave - we have run into too many sprouts who want to brute force everything and get upset with us when we try to explain mechanics and WHY they are necessary.

Oof sounds like garuda was a real headache, i don't think my patience would have held out with the I'm in a rush tank. Also confused on why someone would use medica 1 at lvl 50 over 2/cure 3 if you're recovering for an aoe hit but thats just me.

garuda ex and i have a love-hate relationship at this point lmao for one it's not the most difficult if everyone understands what to do... but i have yet to find a group in pf that doesn't kill the spiny plume (which i always mark with a giant red DO NOT ATTACK marker)...

The Navel is easily the hardest extreme i did with my min ilvl group. The 7 bomb part you need to kill one because only tanks live through those at min ilvl. The mountain busters need to be swapped at 2, making the timing for swaps/cooldowns pretty strict. The tumult raidwides are devastating as well. Oh and doing Garuda synced, it is possible to live through aerial blast without the spiny plume with a tank LB, but it's much better to have the spiny up so you can kill it for a shield.

Incoming ramble about mentor roulette cause I think it's interesting! I just recently finished doing about 20-30 mentor roulettes a day to get Astrope before Dawntrail (and managed it, yippee!) During that time, there were a few days where I ran into CONSTANT extremes with the same people, and a lot of them were either short with their words or wouldn't speak at all-- I'd heard that xbox players have a tough time communicating in chat, which leads them to just not speaking. So I had begun to theorize that the weird influx of extreme sprouts was probably from xbox newbies joining us (I also did my mentor queues around the same time xbox FFXIV launched, so there's that too!) I feel like aside from that though it's mostly new players joining after Dawntrail release date announcements, similar to how we had a massive boom in player population before Endwalker. Fun fact, out of those runs (which I believe totaled up to be around somewhere from 500~400, I started grinding in mid March and had 1,500 done by 3/25) the only two extremes that failed/abandoned was Sephirot Extreme with a party consisting of ENTIRELY LEVEL 90 PLAYERS! (Still baffled by this!) And the only other fail was a Ultima's Bane run where we could NOT get our Paladin to confirm whether or not he could tank swap, leading us to wipe again and again and again, 'till eventually everyone got frustrated and just vote abandoned. I had assumed this Paladin was probably an xbox player, since he refused to communicate, and the only time he did was by using prominence after we asked a question, which made me laugh way harder than it should've. 😭

I tried moogle King ex as scholar not terribly long ago but one of the tanks kept killing off the pomsguards so we didn't end up winning against it, it was an... experience

I feel like a Praetorium (Extreme) could be a gauntlet that basically runs The Praetorium, Porta Decumana, and the Lahabreha fight all wrapped into one instance. Maybe even make it eight players, too. ... What do you mean they did that already?

I had a strange occurrence when doing my wonderous book I did unscyned nidhogg then went back to que for e7,8 and a5,6 but I forgot to take nidhogg ex off and I somehow had que pop for nidhogg ex fortunately I realized what happened and just took the que penalty

I’m still a firm advocate of giving new players a bit more leeway in high end content if they have the attentiveness to learn and take advice, but there’s a difference between that and players unwilling to discuss mechanics. Let’s hope next mentors roulettes give you a more relaxed session next time.

Hey! Great vids. I am a returning player after a 2 year hiatus... having a hard time remembering "how to play" and using my cooldowns etc. any recommendations for getting practice? I enjoyed being GNB but now I am nervous that I won't tank correctly

Speaking as a trial player who used to queue for extremes in DF, it's easy to assume the long queues are simply a timing issue. I very quickly started queueing in primetime (evening/weekends in my DC) in the hopes of filling faster. These sprouts could be doing a similar thing, queueing right after the weekly reset.

Praetorium extreme lmao This series makes me want to try mentor roulette and help pull some troubled groups across the finish line. Just got to complete a few more extremes.

I tend to be go go until I / group dies once or someone calls out to wait or not ready.

Ho my ! I've got a couple of Garuda Ex not long ago with some 1st timer and it did not go that bad, but it seems you've got 6 in yours ... Anyway, I will substitute google on this because ... I think it was drunk or something (nah actually it just hurts itself on some translation choices I guess). Spiny Plume is named Plume Perforante in french (and Razor Plume => Plume Lacérante).

That's a depressingly low dps for both titan ex and garuda ex, I never remember getting to those mechanic, I don't even bother explaining feather anymore. Same for P9N,(well, it's just above average here) devour is skipped often now

What you're saying in Garuda is what is bothering me about ARR Extremes and what you're kinda proving with the Extreme countdown; You can beat them with only a few people doing right and can ignore their mechanics. You were (un)lucky from what I saw with having 7 Sprouts in Garuda. With like 3 mentors you trivialize the fight. Even a DPS can take one Add if you just have one good tank (needs to be focussed and some healing tho). I always mark the pink and spiny plumes. But like you saw, the spiny plume shield is not needed and the pink plume, one DPS focussing it is enough. It's good that the Extremes don't require savage level coordination and you can get newbies through it so they get a taste of harder content. But you can just carry them too hard very easily. So they maybe don't enjoy it as they didn't need to do anything meaningful or understanding what happened and also don't get to realize, OH the content is hard and has Mechanics! And People not reading chat, even when stuff goes south... c: I recently left two duties on a day, which, was a first time for me; Got Rathalos EX (I hate it, especially after 50+ Mentor roulette clears of it), cleared it, got it immediately again FOR THE SAME TANK! When I queued for Mentor again about two hours(!) later I got it AGAIN and... FOR THE SAME TANK.

I hate mentor roulette cuz it feels like a lot of the time whatll happen is that garuda ex, just at varying levels of complexity ;w;
