I gotta admit i think they nailed the front end, but i think your back end and side profile is much better. Also the wing is just amazing, especially with the adjustable feature. You really stepped it up on this video, the renders and everything!!

Exaktly my thought. Frank's front looses to much of the edges, its way too smooth for a countach.

@@Kermitt_Frog True, the wedge shaped front end was one of the defining design elements in the original Countach. Frank's front end would suit a Bugatti maybe but definitely wouldn't work on a Lambo

I drove a 91 Diablo as a daily for almost 10 years and I spent every moment I had just looking at it , the new Countach looks more like the Diablo with small accents of the Countach

I’ve watched your channel about owning exotic animals, it makes total sense you’d daily something as intense as a Diablo! You’re a former professional football (soccer) player right? That clutch must’ve been a piece of cake compared to the training you’d go through

@@roddydykes7053 Hi n no there is another Michael Jamison in Australia that was a pro football player , but I wouldn't have minded to be one too , my Porsche911made my leg pain a lot at night but it was because I kept the clutch in waiting by the red robot , the Diablo's is even tighter but You can get 100km/h in first gear so You don't use the clutch as much and I took it out of gear for any reason .

I love most of your redesigns but with this one, I think only the back looks a lot better, the NACA vent might look better lower imo. And I agree with the front lights, would be cool to see a total bodycolor cover which could retract. I miss pop up lights..

just booooooooring! If anything a 2020´s styling should have at least included a direct injection hydrogen engine! Glaciologist drilling icecores in Greenland have, by measuring airbubbles captured in the ice, established that we the last 500.000 years have had a pretty stable carbon PPM at 220. With a few periods peaking at 280 PPM. Those peaks have been connected to many large Vulcanic eruptions at the same time globally. Since around the beginning of the industrial revolution PPM has exploded. We are now (2021) at 416 PPM, close to double the amount we have seen last 500.000 year. Just to set the amount of 500.000 years in context, man left Africa around 60.000 years ago. Wake up please. We all need to ACT NOW. Its really pure Darwin. Adapt or die (out eventually). If we scan, and we do, the globe, for optimal placements for off shore windmill parks we currently have identified overall areas that covers the global need for Electricity, hereunder electricity for producing needed hydrogen to replace our complete needed consumption more than 35 times and counting. If we imagined we had our electricity covered, converted to the area we need to place windmills in, we would immediately better our oceans, through the many many mini reefs that are natural homes for mussles and seaweed, that again gives a home for small fish. These fish nurseries gives grounds for all sorts of life. Symbiotically it combined removes acidity from the oceans by filtering. Furthermore it oxidizes the oceans significantly. Due to the actual rise of water temperature around the globe, not least via the Gulf Stream, through the thermohaline system, the oceans reefs, are under actual negative influence. The amount of bleaching events the last decades have been on a sharp rise,. More and more local extreme weather-related phenomena's have participated in large areas, that experience the complete eradication of life, in their former pristine coral reefs. They had functioned in perfect symbioses along large parts of their coastline for thousand of years. The bad news are that where large areas are affected, reality shows that the chalk in the reefs disintegrates in a few years after the last devasting bleaching event. Every single global reef constitutes a vital part, of humans and other species, food chain. If we build off shore windmills according to our global need, we would at the same time automatically, more than substitute and support the loss of our global reefs. Although the foundations of off shore windmills are artificial, they will provide home for the mentioned symbiotic species! THIS moment of time gives us all the possibility to be part of the solution, in everything we DO and project. Its going to be a leap not an hindrance! If all off shore windmill are placed at farms, below the horizon, seen from the shore, where birdlife are extremely sparse and those that do roam are spices that generally understands to avoid windmills, we will at the same time free vast amount of land and hopefully stop the rising waters, from eating of our live-able land masses. With no red tape and sufficient backing, an off shore windmill park can deliver full output from water freed for it, in 3-5 years. Electricity will be instant joining global grid, the underwater life will begin to contribute to an markable degree after 3 years and transform our oceanic life in 10, and even more later. Look into it and become an active part of a brighter future. I see no area, car/truck/ship/airplane engines or hyperloop (you name it!) where hydrogen cant replace AND eventually deliver a better overall conceptual solution. There are a Klondyke of opportunities! Not looking them up and exploiting them aggressively. are missing an option that will prevail. in a short time, anyway. We cant wait for a slow progression, we need a instant political, privat enterprise, global response to our REAL needs now! It makes no sense we use and pursue our energy needs coverage, by burning fossile fuels, when we can harvest the earths natural weather, to easily meet our needs in a green sustainable way! Investment-wise, we even can reuse foundation and grid-connections, when the windmills inner engine mechanically are getting old and needs replacement, thus we can later upgrade to new technologically more advanced engines and gearboxes, as an even more profitable investment. At first these basic requirements are a necessity for establishing the off shore windmill -parks. I would imagine that whatever capacity new energy transfer connections have they eventually will be supplied to their final safe capacity. Where I live. we now have enough hydrogen filling stations. for the persistent to cover its national needs. More are to come. The market today can deliver a wide range of hydrogen fuel cells cars, but the real game changer are coming from Toyota, that have presented a long endurance, direct injection hydrogen based car engine in a resent released presentation of a such racecar. They demonstrate its abilities by letting it participate in an Japanese long endurance race. It seems the Japanese have managed to overcome the holy grail regarding hydrogen car engines. A fast responsive, equal and better, rival to the gasline/diesel powered engine, that at the same time only emits, water! Not only that, they claim the engine actually overall REMOVES, a tiny amount of CO2, when running. Current infrastructure, gasstations, could relatively easy transform, and/or add hydrogen as an option in their business. I dont want to SPEND our taxmoney fixing our ever increasing costs related to a dramatic shifting climate; draughts, floods, hurricanes, climate refugees, I wanna INVEST in a transformation of our society so that all energy are made from sustainable sources, preferably windmills and that all devices used by modern man runs on green sustainable electricity or green hydrogen. So, an old design with an old engine. If Europe dont want Japan to disappear with the entire carmarket in a few year, they better introduce the direct injection hydrogen in all their future car introductions. We have run out of time! Realise that if you are not part of the solution NOW, you ARE part of the problem.

The biggest oversight was the side intake when the obvious choice of carrying over the naca duct would've made so much more sense. I even said this prior to Frank's video and I don't know anything about design.

Looks insane from the front, almost UFO like. The rear looks crazy, I do not like that Lamborghini slapped the Sian's taillights onto the new Countach.

When this design was revealed, I was quite disappointed. It was too safe. It lacks the brutality of the original. The headlights don't come close to the iconic OG ones!

I 100% agree. This redesign of the 2021 Countach looks like an electric version of the old Countach. It's not wrong for this modern 2021 Countach to be restyled in a 2021 style like Lambourghini designed it. Also someone else suggested some adjustment to the headlights making them less squished.

i guess that the true translation of Frank would be "Franccesco", cause "Grande Franco" sounds like you are appealing to the Spanish dictator and his cars designs weren't as nice as Franks' are (watch for the very first seat 500)

Calls it out, like he should. Thank you, Frank. This looks more like a Diablo update than anything else. I loved the original 60s styling of the Countach it was wedge yet more... It does not translate well when they try to imbue it with a more organic nature!

Yeah, one car which the new Countach reminds me of is the Z32 Nissan 300ZX, with the black horizontal bar on the front and of course the headlights - which ended up on the facelifted Diablo.

What we also should consider is regulations regarding pedestrian security (which are regulating sharp edges, wedges , shapes, etc) - Lambo often gets away with it because of the small production units, buuuut it‘s maybe to be considered :)

Front: what Lambo did. Side: what Lambo did, although I'm not completely sold on that huge black air intake. Rear: Frank's re-design is closer to what it should have been made, Lambo's looks a bit generic.

Front: what lambo did, except the lights, which are angled backwards too much. I prefer them to look almost horizontal from the front. Side and rear: this guy's design.

I think this design drove straight into the uncanny vally. The Countach had an iconic design, which can be recognized in the new version, but the mash up with modern elements makes the whole thing look iffy...

Who else saw the black stick at 5:10 poping in and out of existence? That countach was such a progressive design at the time that a new interpretation of it would require the same in today design. Just "milking" a design icon of the past doesn't do merit to it. Later Edit: i wrote my comment before hearing your conclusions, so glad you stand in the same boat!

Agree 100%. Before even seeing this, the betrayal of the pinched ducts is unforgivable. And the lazy back end also. I gave theirs 8/10. Yours makes it a 10.

Frank version doesn't look to "roundy" for a Countach? I mean... the back design is definitely better, but i feel like the front misses the agressiveness and imponence from the original Countach. The top line from side view also give me that impression. Don't get me wrong, i know that i'm light years apart from Frank expertise.

If he made the front just a tad bit longer, and put the headlights out more, it would be a major improvement, but gotta say, the front is to curvy and lacks that aggressive Lamborghini pizazz.

The Dome Zero was quite an impressive cheese wedge, Frank. 😃 I do agree though, a refresh of a car as legendary as the Countach 100% merits a clean sheet implementation. The corner-cutting and penny pinching is rather disappointing, and also pointless - they'd more than recoup the development costs of going bespoke cause the car would be a guaranteed golden goose.

The new Countach is a modern take on the features of Countach, but not on the concept of the car itself. It was a very tight, harmonious, visionary design with lovely flowing lines and the new Countach is just another barely up to date retro car. Surprisingly the old car looks way more pleasant to the eye as if back then they knew better how to make beautiful cars and now they lost it. Not saying this is true, just saying. It's like a blockbuster - a sequel that leans 100% on nostalgia, but offers nothing new, or exciting on it's own. I personally think the original Huracan is the nicest looking Lambo. .

The new "Countach" looks like an Aventador with a body kit and they called it a day on that. They couldn't also build a brand new platform for the Countach because the profit motive doesn't allow them to do so - they knew they could save a ton of more money by selling another Aventador design.

A long-awaited video, because I agree with you that the Countach deserved something more, especially after several decades of admiration. I believe that no car has made such an aesthetic impact in the history of supercars. It is still a desirable car, unattainable, but somehow they have been halfway there, lack of risk, daring, generate new components and preserve elements of the original. Anyway, I love the LPI-800-4 and it is good news in the days that the car lives. Admirable Frank, as always.

I really love your redesign of the rear end, especially the taillight and exhaust, but I think I prefer the more squared lines of the front in the head-on view. Your naca duct resize looks a lot better too

I felt the same way about this new redesigned Countach ! Everybody seemed to be very excited about it but I found the design to lack countach-like or at least futuristic/ striking elements . Very interesting video

I remember Frank saying that car designers have to design cars with the next 5-10 years in mind, meaning they basically have to dream a car for the future. My problem with the new Countach's design is that it feels too contemporary, meaning it won't feel as exciting in 10, or even in 5 years down the line. Plus it feels a little more restrained in its brushes compared to the more aggressive lines the original had. Still, a good design, but nothing too special to me.

No matter how good or bad the design, we all know it was a cynical cash grab. It is a reskinned Aventador with a powertrain that debuted over a year ago in a different car. This does not justify 7x the MSRP of an Aventador.

I think the front they nailed it. All i like is your design on the back lights..you did that perfectly. I dont understand why they would put Sian lights on a new Countach. And you draw so well, such outstanding job to be a car designer.

The original Countach was a landmark in car design, and influenced decades of supercars that followed. The new one doesn't advance design one iota, and will likely be soon forgotten by all but Lambo aficionados.

I'd definitely liked to have seen more appropriate tail lights; the taillights Frank designed are epic. I'd also liked to have seen either smaller or non existent NACA ducts on the sides(I really loved the original LP 500). I wonder if they could have been moved to the underside of the car, which could have possibly also served a dual purpose to offer downforce?

Having watched the video, and feeling the need to throw in my tuppence-worth, I think you've nailed the side-view again but you've made the front worse. Those blocky rectilinear headlights are very 80s and there's something quite bold and assertive about the overall look at the front. I think you've softened the look (made it look more Italian?) but it doesn't shout "Countach" in quite the same way. Anyhow, terrific video as always.

@@johanndaart7326 one of the best improvements is narrowing that A-pillar. That small detail shifts the visual centre of gravity forwards and makes the car look a lot edgier, more like Gandini’s original vision.

When I first saw this car, my first thought was that the door intake shape is just a huge "no". It should be in a proper NACA duct shape. Glad to see Frank also has the same thought!

Really not a fan of the new Countach. The wheel design was the most offensive thing I saw on it given its the easiest to change. Cash grab, but rich people don't have taste. The new M3/M4 confirm this

When I heard there was a new Countach I got super excited (I'm one of those kids who had the poster on their bedroom wall). And then I saw it and it is such a let-down. You're entirely correct in your changes. The headlights should not be angled - they need to be square with the road. The other element missing from the front end is the curved panels on the sides of the hood. It gave a big muscular contrast to the flat area. The new taillights were another big disappointment - they scream "parts-bin". I was glad to see you correct the height of the corners of the rear lamp panel. That polygon was unique and special on the original. I would appreciate an episode on the interior.

Great take on the reinterpretation of the Countach, Frank! I'd personally like to add one aspect that has had me questioning this car deeply; The original Countach was all about the vision behind its shape, the main volume and proportions. This is in stark contrast to the new one, where the design case seems to only have focused on the details alone, not the vision behind the car itself. Thus it feels more like a simple afternoon photoshop exercize put into production, rather than a true homage to the legendary ancestor. This, to me, speaks volumes about the current state of Lamborghini. I am sure they have their reasons for reusing the Aventador platform like there's no tomorrow, but it baffles me they'd do such a mediocre job when it comes to a legendary brand legacy like the Countach name. I would love to see you lead a design team in a similar case, to see your outcome. Your sense of core vision is something that can really benefit high-stakes productions like this one. Because as it sits now, all we're really doing is paying 4x the price for an Aventador with a bodykit and a fancy name. And the Countach name deserves so much more than that.

I disagree completely since it's supposed to be a celebration of the countach, it is a proper hommage even using the aventador underpinnings. When Lamborghini makes a cutting edge design that pushes tech and design forward, they should be using a different name for it anyway because using an already used name is antithetical to what they will be trying to achieve.

Very well said, I had the exact thoughts since the reveal of this car. The essence of the Countach is not the styling. It does look quite good but I just see the Aventador with some different bits, nothing more. The changes shown by Frank kept a lot of the styling but change the design quite a bit which made the car finally look as the Countach. It’s not for us to say this is right or wrong, but well mentioned that it speaks volumes about what Lamborghini is today. Doing a VW typical styling change to make another model is not what we expect from Lamborghini. Especially for this price and volume. But since I’ve already lost count on how many Aventador based cars there are and that Lamborghini is likely to keep doing this, I think the Countach works as a final testimony that Lamborghini has completely changed and is a very different company to what it used to be.

They didn't celebrate its simplicity, they added complexity. They didn't celebrate it's desire to push limits and do what hadn't been done before, they took an old platform and even reused old styling parts. They just took the styling, gave it to a sketchmonkey, and cooked up the finished product overnight. And I say this because I know for a fact that even transportation design students could do this job easily. If this is their idea of celebrating, then I'm sorry the Countach name is too good for their sorry attempt. If they can't do it properly, they shouldn't do it at all.
