Those 1150's were Utterly Brutal in Stock form , let alone upgraded . Yes , a Great Engine . Back when Suzuki had found their Mo-Jo .

I owned a new red 1983GS1100E, 1985 GS1150E, and a new 1986 GS1150E with a Vance & Hines 1260 Pro Street Engine mod kit built by Byron Hines back in the day...they were indestructable rocketships. The modified 1986 would spin the tire at a 75mph roll-on...and I was clocked at 172mph.

Back in 1993 I called a guy in south Jersey about a 83' GS1100ED he had for sale, we talked and he said if I came down and if he already sold it by the time I get there he would sell me his other bike a GS1150. So I get there and both bikes are in his garage, and I fell in love with the 1150ES, it was blue and mint. He wouldn't sell it so I bought the GS1100ED and still have it today.

@@Crosshatch1212 Great find for that price, especially if it's an A or B (EFI twin-shock, bodywork similar to the KZ1000R) and the EFI still works. I have two Unitrak's (the "swoopy" body single shock GPz1100). One is rough - really just a parts doner. The other is in good condition, and the DFI still works fine.

Bought a brand new one back in 88 3200quid on finance, Got a Vance & Hienz exhaust off a mate who drag raced one, man it was loud! Day I fitted it Was cruising through the country lanes and blipped the throttle as I past a field of cows, most ran but I swear one collapsed and died on the spot 😂 3 years and 12000 miles later I put a wiesco 1230 big bore kit and a set of 38 mm flat side carbs in it, dynoed at 132hp and 96 ft lb at the wheel, first bike I power wheeled at a ton in 3rd. Ran a 10.92 at Santa pod in 91’ then stupidly sold it and bought a MK1 ZX10 🙄knew within days I’d fucked up! Cheers for sparking the memories 👊😎

For about 4 years I ran a Uniform route and at one of my stops I got to know a guy who drag raced a Suzuki GS 1150 . He knew I raced also so we talked a lot about bikes . One day he had his drag bike ( fairly stock ) at the store and asked me if I wanted to ride it . I said hell yeah and took his helmet and started it up . As I turned I wisely didn't whack the throttle open until I was pointing straight up and forward . Because that bike lit up the back tire and took off like a rocket ! I had ridden fast 1000's before but HOLY SH!T that thing was a rocket ! MAN ...that thing was fun and I could barely keep it under 100mph ripping around . The owner of the parts store wasn't too happy but my friend was laughing his butt off . I almost forgot I had uniforms to deliver ! PK

In the sixties Honda 750 4 was the benchmark for big street machines, in the seventies Kawasaki upped the antee w/ the Z900. From 79- early - mid eighties Suzuki GS took the reins on performance. I still prefer Kawasaki lineup but give the GS its respect...or they'll take it!

I was 19yrs old and working at a muffler/rustproofing shop. I ran the rustproofing half. Just a kid! The mechanic on the other side, Stu had one exactly like this. I loved it. I begged him everyday he rode it in to let me take it for a spin. He was always no-way! One day he finally said okay! I was geeked! He gave me his leather and helmet. I took it down 696 in Detroit. I had it up to 140 and that was it! Terrifying and awesome at the same time! Been in love with it ever since!

I just love your channel Ken, watch it daily and I'm so jealous of your life. You get to ride so many amazing bikes! You would have to kick me off the property everyday if I didn't live over 7 hours away, lol. I have a few nice old bikes in my garage wasting away that I'm thinking about parting with .... one is a 1980 GS 1000 with custom paint and a strong runner that will straighten your arms out when you get on it for an old bike. I rode it about 100 miles in the past 10 years, it's jetted with individual K&N pod filters with 4-1 Vance and Hines pipe. I started it a few years ago and did a burnout in the garage and that's the last time I ran it, lol.

In the 90's my service manager had that same bike except in blue and white and he decided to put a turbo on it for some reason. After playing with it for a month or so he asked if he could put it on the showroom floor for us to sell.It didn't take long for a guy to be interested in the bike.He was a little older than our average motorcycle customer so we talked about the bike and in a few minutes he wrote us a check. He told me he would pick it up the next day. He showed up then and I got him all set to take it home stressing as I had before he bought it what a monster this thing was.He was yeah yeah I know I got it.The I had to leave him to test ride a trade in and at the gas station I run into my turbo customer.Again I told him be careful it's a beast it could bite ya be careful, yeah yeah again so that was the last time I talked to him, he was riding it towards his home on a curvy road and evidently the turbo kicked in as he was going around a curve and he lost it and somehow the handlebar went into his chest and he was killed. He owned it less than an afternoon. I've only lost a few customers that way thankfully over my 35-40 years in the business but you never forget. It wasn't the bikes fault and he was warned but it's still tough to take.
