This is my step-by-step guide on how to make free basing material for use in dioramas and for basing miniatures. This was all done with used Tea Bags. This is budget friendly and great for beginners!
Tea is made up of dried Tea leaves. Some other teas have flowers, petals, sticks, zest and bark in them. It all depends on the ingredients and flavour of the tea.
The method is very simple; simply dry-out the tea leaf matter inside the bags and use it for basing! It can also be used as a base where you mix in flock to make your own base mix.
I used this technique to make the material to base all my Overgrown Necrons (check out my other videos for guides on those) in Warhammer 40,000. I'm now using the same materials to base my army of Gargants and Mega Gargant from Sons of Behemat.

This channel is about painting converting and kitbashing miniatures for your warhammer & d&d games, Age of sigmar and warhammer 40k games. I will maybe paint Space Marines, Space Wolves, Stormcast Eternals, cities of sigmar, chaos space marines, painting scale models, miniature busts in the future. I haven't ever tried How to paint NMM. I've done guides on how to paint warhammer, how to paint d&D I may do a conversion guide for Darktide or Dark tide however it is spelled. And in the future I will build and paint some terrain for my miniature war gaming wargaming

Mate, a man after my own heart! I drink tea and have used tea leaves for years. All sorts of blends. They work very well. I also use coffee grounds and mixed herbs. Great video. I will subscribe. Cheers!

I think one got it! Use fine ground tea that's been used as you've done for the 'dirt and grit' and I've got this Davids Tea red toned thicker stuff that ill use as larger ground cover. Brilliant this video is.

Not free as such but always worth raiding the spice rack for dried herbs. Just don’t let the wife, mum find out. 😀

Haha yeah 'free'...if you drink tea. Herbs are good for basing too!

It’s technically free because it’s using your waste. If you don’t drink tea then it’s not free.

Great tutorial. Have any of the teas you've tried provided a Gladiator style Italian yellow dusty soil?

found your page by searching "orange necrons" (don't ask.....) long story short, binged all your videos in a day, and on pay day will be placing an order for paints (through your affiliate link of course) and signing up to the patreon! but thats enough blowing smoke up your butt!!! whats the durability like on the bases, i noticed you don't seal affter applying, and also with shading other bits on the base, does the tea re-hydrate?? work have just got a supply of 12 different teas (i did not know there were that many) and there is SOOO much texture, will look great as basing materials!! Thanks again for the inspiration!

Thanks Dante for the support! 😊 glad you enjoyed my videos! As for durability..I don't handle the models buy the bases as they are magnetised. But I have tested using a scenic glue and isopropyl combo on my monolith and it worked a treat, all the flock and materials are nicely attached and hardy. My scenic glue is just pva, water and alcohol with a drop of soap. Geek Gaming Scenics does a good guide on how to make it. As for the tea being reactivated...I haven't had issues with it at all. Sealed and unsealed..I don't have any mould or anything on the models, and that's years later. To be safe I'd seal bases as it just ensures it will stay put. And you don't have to be so delicate or worried around your minis.

Nope, not at all. Still have a tub full of it and its all dry a year later. The tea I used on bases is fine too

Could you microwave it instead of the oven?
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. You could but I find that my microwave doesn't let the water escape. So it steams the contents. Also if it got too dry in the microwave it could set fire. No harm in giving it a go? I'd suggest microwaving it on a plate or something to spread it out more, and only doing it in 1 minute blasts. You could also put paper towel on top of it to catch the steam. Might work?

@@SlayerMiniatures aye I will give it a go. With the amount of tea I drink I’ll never run out so worth a try.
