In this video I find a VICTA 2 Stroke Commando lawnmower discarded and left near some scrub near my house. Whilst looking a little tired, I am mystified as to why such a good mower has just been thrown away to go to rot and take it home to see if I can get it run! Question is, what is wrong with it, will it start and can I fix it?

I love the old 2 stroke mowers plenty power , basic engine design long lasting

Oh my gosh that is the sound of mowing a lawn on a sunday afternoon in the early 1990s. Wow love that 2 stroke lawn mower sound :) And that machine looks in great nick good stuff to save it. You are 100% right people have way more money than brains now. Some of the new mowers on the market are terrible. All plastic . Even the new victa corvette's they all look like cheapy plastic china stuff

@@DrewFixIt I think you are 100% right... Unfortunately :/ I have kept my old 2 stroke equipment and repair it when it needs. Its much better :)

Victas were a common sight where I live, half of the people in my street used them. But nowadays, not even a quarter in my street use them. I’m one of like two or 3 who use the old Victa 2 Strokes still, I have collected a few of them in recent times and most of them only needed light tinkering before they were working again. If I am unable to fix them though I use what parts I can get off them to keep my lot still running.

Going back to the needle in the carby, I've seen there's a pointy end and a rounder end. The pointy end should be faced downwards or else the fuel flow will be incorrect and it won't run right.

Bought one of those red Victa Commandos from Mount Isa K Mart in 1999 for I think $500. It has travelled around Australia since then still going strong every weekend

Looking forward to it mate. The longevity is testament to a good design. A few cosmetic and easily bodged things have given up on it over the years. It copped a flogging cutting NT wet season grass for 9 years. What it sorely does need now is replacement wheels. Do the current models share the same legacy wheels from the older Commando model?

Beats getting munched by the hydraulic jaws of a garbage compactor truck! Can't believe the condition of that thing. I've seen ones with rust everywhere and flogged out wheels still mowing lawns and that thing is a spring chicken condition wise. Came up like new. If only hundreds of others would get saved out there.

Nice find champion.What a waste..that is a classic Victa that will last for decades with a bit of TLC.......Aussie made unlike the overpriced junk at Bunnings......Gotta love an old 2 stroke.!!

My mower exactly like in video, but run over rev when engine hot, changed o-rings for manifold and starter, but no different any idea, cheers.

Hi Mate, you have done the right things checking the normal air leaks first. The next thing that I would do is check how much tension is in the main spring in the Carby and potentially swap it for a softer spring. Checkout the following video where I show how to speed up an under revving VICTA, for you it’s basically the same but you swap for a softer spring! Cheers Drew

Thanks for the info and love the vids! I have a similar mower and it starts first pull, but only runs on full choke, and shudders to a stop when I put in the run position. Would you happen to know what might be the problem?

Good Day Drew. Do you have a used Flywheel for a Victa Commando? Somehow came loose and damaged the keyway. There are no spares here cause they are going 4 stroke cause of pollution. All the way from South Africa.

Hi Drew. No, not the cutting disc. Above the cutting disc is the flywheel which sits upside down. The nut that holds the cutting disc in place came loose and the flywheel slipped down damaging the keyway in the flywheel. thanks and regards. Alan @@DrewFixIt
