Welcome! We are at the end of Getting Ready 1 and this video contains an honest review of my opinion on the material along with some advice and tips for a smooth transition from pre k to kindergarten whether you plan on homeschooling in kindergarten or not. The material we used can be found for FREE at allinonehomeschool.com/gettin...
If you plan to purchase the books to save money on material or have school on the go you can find the workbooks on the Easy Peasy site at allinonehomeschool.com/ep-store/ or on Amazon at www.amazon.com/Lee-Giles/e/B0...
You will want to purchase both the Getting Ready 1 book (purple for girl characters, blue for boy characters) and the Learn to Read with EP book when/if you purchase the books.
Remember, you don't have to purchase the books at all, it's just a convenience to get them. I definitely have enjoyed the paper books and don't regret the purchase at all, in fact I recommend spending a little and getting them!

Thanks so much for this!! I just started my son this week. He'll be 4 in Oct. I feel so positive after your review. And people just need to realize that there are multiple ways to teach and learn. Just one reason I don't want my son in the common school system- stuck in a box. He is starting with the primer because he already knows his letters and sounds. So we'll be starting Getting Ready 2 soon. Thanks again!

You're welcome! I totally agree about the public school system. I'm so thankful I have the opportunity to educate at home! By the way, you owe no one any explanation.

Thank you!😁👍 Your review totally helped me. I'm wondering if you add types of learning or curriculum to the EP Preschool learning?( also other levels if you have older kids?) Thx!😊

I really didn't add much. I just used life throughout the community as additional lessons and lots of field trips. I know that's hard to do right now unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip of making the flash cards for letter sounds. I’m working through this with my four year old and it just seems like he’s not retaining all the letter sounds or the lower case letters so far. I tried to start with him when he was 3 1/2 and he wasn’t ready. He’s doing a lot better this time. We do it online and he enjoys watching the videos and playing the games, but I think I want to get him away from the computer as much as possible in the future and then just supplement with the computer games.

I really like using the computer and screens as much as possible as well. Maybe try some hands on learning, similar to Montessori? Make letters using clay, cut letters out of different textured fabrics to feel the letters and glue them onto something to make a collection of your letters, make letters using a sand tray (I used a simple food tray from the dollar store), point out letters when you're out and about, go on "letter hunts" in an exciting safari type game around the house and hunt for specific letters, etc.

My son. Who is 5 , is currently in kinder(at a public school). I Was wondering if it would be a hard to transition to home school? His teacher already told me hes ahead of his peers and i honestly want to challenge him and keep him busy since he gets bored easily at school. Also, do they get tested at the end of the year also?

I have been horrible about checking back on my comments and I apologize for not seeing this sooner. I was told by a friend who tried digital online school years ago that if I wanted to homeschool I should do it when my kids are young. She pulled her son from school when he was in 6th grade. I took her advice and although our first year was a bit tough because it was so different for us, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would have been and each year has gotten easier and easier. I think with younger kids it would be even easier to transition into homeschooling. I personally think the sooner you pull the child, the better. I do not have my kids tested yearly because not only is it not required by my state, but I would hate to fall into the trap of "teaching them to the test", meaning focusing more on lessons revolving around getting a higher score on the standardized test and less on useful subjects that will help them in the future.

Absolutely! My little ones have done so well on this curriculum! We did level three reading with my two older children this last school year and they loved the books. They have excelled so much following the math. The science and history are very thorough...I can't say enough good things about Easy Peasy! Have your children always been homeschooled or are they leaving public school?

hip homeschoolers Thanks for response! This will be our 1st year coming up. :) Left public school this past May. I love how simple it looks, I'd hate to complicate things.

I just want to offer a tip. I pulled my older two out of public school and started using EP. Although both of my older kids were straight A students, both had a tough time at first with Easy Peasy because the curriculum is very advanced compared to what is taught in public school. I ended up having to go back a grade level in math and we also ended up reading together instead of having them read in their heads alone. Remember that it is completely ok to go back and learn things the correct way if needed because public school teaches to pass tests and does not teach to master subjects. I plan to eventually post a video with tips I learned after pulling my older two out of school, but this was definitely a big one. Good luck! You're going to love homeschooling and the freedom that comes with it!

hip homeschoolers Thank you for the tip! :) I do like the workbooks I got the Math (which looks more like they'll be on target), LA, but not sure about the Readers. I will take the time on the latter 2 subjects because its def new material compared to what I noticed them learning in PS. Any tips welcomed, and thanks for sharing your vids!

I have two kids that I am gonna homeschool this year...one will be in preschool and the other will be in kindergarten. Question: Does these books contain 180 assignments for the 180 school year? Also, what subjects do the books cover, besides learning letter? Is math in it and science? Also, neither of them know how to read at all....Will this curriculum help them actually comprehend reading, if they start knowing nothing at all about it?

Getting ready 1 is like preschool. as far as math, it covers things like shapes and a small introduction to numbers. If your kindergartener doesn’t have letter sounds mastered, you could start them here together. Math and Science are not really full time subjects until 1st grade with this curriculum. I have 6 kids and was a homeschool nanny for years before. I feel that putting reading first is really important. For science at this age, the kids usually keep me busy just answering all their questions, and digging a little deeper on these subjects with library books. Hope this helps!

Thanks for asking! We have actually moved on and I’ll be happy to share what we have done instead if you’re interested. We do more of a relaxed homeschool approach now. I absolutely recommend EP for pre-k and kindergarten to everyone though! That along with Wildwood’s amazing book recommendations for kindergarten. My son absolutely fell in love with fairy tales from The Blue Fairy Book and it really drove him to love great literature. He still reads great literature to this day! He’s in fourth grade now! Let me know if you’d like a video on how we approach school now that I have an upper elementary schooler, a middle schooler, and a high schooler!
