This is a quick experiment to see if i could get hot water with the exhaust heat from this diesel heater. i didn't think it would work.. well... it worked, it got Really hot!
nothing exploded or melted.
this is totally free heat, that would have just gone outside!
please send comments.
• Heating My Home with a... this is the other one that is heating the house.
PUMPING HOT AIR INTO MY HOME
I bought one of these for my garage, and then thought....... I could heat my home with this! So that's exactly what i did! It is working great pumping hot air into my home. It is keeping us nice and warm and super economical.
I have a carbon monoxide detector just in case, but you don't get any fumes indoors at all
.
I hope this may help you in some way. Even if it just makes an idea pop up in your head, of how you can heat your home in cheaper way.
Thanks for looking at my videos cheers Andy..... If you can be anything, be Kind.....

You could run a few metres of flexipipe coiled up into a sealed water barrel and that would heat up during the day and keep the garage warm overnight due to the thermal mass. I'm considering something like this for my outside office as it's always freezing in the morning . One good thing about this (intentional?) energy crisis is that it makes this kind of mad experimentation become mainstream and that's a great thing :) Keep up the great work mate!

The flex pipe would have to have a reservoir with a safety relief valve to avoid making it a bomb if it overheats and creates steam.

Hey, just a suggestion for better exchanger efficiency - use counter-flow. Meaning that the flow of gas is opposed to the flow of water. I am studying thermodynamics right now and the difference is noticeable

@@anthonyjulson8840 Yep, the coldest water should be extracting heat from the coolest exhaust gas. Consider [the] (your) best system where the exiting water is as hot as the exhaust gas - it won’t be collecting any further heat in that scenario. Edited so you can ignore the square bracket ‘the’ and insert the curved bracket ‘your’ instead, to make more sense.

EGR coolers ally, so the tap water would destroy it pretty quickly, a coil with a scrap car reservoir in the bucket would work long term though. Then you can fill the coil reservoir with distilled water and auto antifreeze.

Cool. I agree with the earlier comment that it would be worth checking for an internal leak in the cooler, that condensation should have quit showing after a few minutes of running. I'm giving the oil cooler fan heater version a go soon, using a Mercedes cooler in a low volume closed loop pressurised setup in the hope the temps get that far, they all seem pretty similar, I went for this one because the exhaust fittings are best for me to work with. We'll see 😁

@@andyfireblade No leak (well, very unlikely), just latent heat of condensation that you’ve not removed in the heat exchanger. Water of combustion has to go somewhere. If your heat exchanger cooling water was plumbed the other way, you would likely be getting liquid water in the exhaust pipe.

I like the idea of using an EGR cooler as a heat exchanger but my worry is that once the water is boiling it will just make steam, potentially very dangerous. The only solutions with this setup are: 1 drain off some water and add more cold water; 2 turn the heater down/off. An alternative heat exchanger would be one from a Mazda 2.2 diesel from about 2010. These have a bypass tube and diverter, operated originally by vacuum which could easily be modified to cable or electric servo.

@regwatson2017
@regwatson2017 Жыл бұрын
@@andyfireblade Hi Andy - yes that's an interesting one - and annoying after you paid twenty odd quid for it. I haven't seen anyone else reporting a problem with the silent ones going noisy after a while yet but of course they are probably mostly using diesel or thicker oil with them. I found this page which is talking about diesel engines (not specifically Chinese diesel heaters) but it does say that one negative with kerosene instead of diesel as a fuel is the lack of lubrication in kerosene that can affect diesel pumps. I know that ensuring proper lubrication to the chinese heaters original diesel pumps when running on diesel is why they need to be tilted on that angle. If your kero fuel is not lubricating the new pump properly then the wear and tear could possibly be the issue with it going noisy after a time. I wonder if there is an additive that you could safely add to the kero to add back in some lubrication without defeating the cost advantage of kero ? Not sure how the silent pumps differ from the standard noisy ones and whether kerosene would affect them more (ie what makes them silent) - if I find anything online (or anyone else might know) we can let you know. Also interesting that the link states that kero is less efficient and therefore produces less power (in an engine) than diesel whereas I originally thought the opposite. I don't know if that "less power" would translate into "less heat" from your heater though 🙂. dfcdiesel.com/2022/10/21/can-you-run-kerosene-in-a-diesel-engine/

@@regwatson2017 hello reg thank you for your help. i have heard from someone running one kerosene for 4 years on the same pump with no prob. and if my pump did fail as a result of running on kerosene eventually i would mind to put a new one one for the price of them. and hopefully would have saved a lot already on the cheaper kerosene.

@@ianarmitage3518 Yes, less heat per unit volume of fuel. Not a lot - and likely a lot cheaper on 28s kero. Less pump lube from kero, but many have run their heaters, on kero, for literally thousands of hours with no pump problems. All pumps are not equal, of course.
