Take a strong proper stance when practicing dry land work. It can be a challenge to orient yourself on land - you're vertical, while swimming had you horizontal in the water. But practicing on land can help you improve your proprioception, timing, alignment without also having to focus on the breathing. You can also do the moves in front of a mirror to build that awareness.
