Help: In searching on the lab results for AquaTru I could not find testing and removal for Haloacetic acids (HAA5) Haloacetic acids (HAA9) or cyanide, these are all found in high amounts in my city tap water. I did find all other contaminants specific to my tap water. Thanks for a really good discussion. I understand you cannot cover every detail but would appreciate a response.

look at the size of these molecules compared to the membrane holes in reverse osmosis and you will have your answer.
@Freshnss
@Freshnss 4 ай бұрын
Reverse Osmosis is generally known to remove HAA5 whether or not they are specifically marketed or certified as such, though it's not 100% effective. The EPA is working on a draft to classify and test RO units and HAA5 removal will likely be part of that spec once finalized. After that, we'll be able to refer to the EPA labeling for units for sale.

The Nelsen quick change Twist & Loc reverse osmosis (RO) system you connected me with has been operating for a few months now and seems to be working well. I installed myself, what I am inclined to note here is that I added an air space between the RO rinse water and drain. Also I do add about a dash of Himalayan pink salt to each gallon of RO water for remineralization. After listening to your post here, maybe I can even do away with that. ( Much easier than carrying 5 gallon containers of water from the store every few days )

Hey Gabriel - I am glad to hear you love they system! It is a great tank based option. And the Himalayan salt is a great natural method for remineralization. Thank you for sharing and let me know if I can help out with anything else 🙌

A couple of comments...1) Forget Himalayan pink salt...even as a minimal source of trace elements. It’s proven to be both inadequate and nconsistent (as is all mined salt source). ONLY ocean-derived minerals & trace elements provide the full Periodic Table of the Elements (not including gases, of course). The absolute best is QUINTON Hypertonic liquid in 10 ml sachets or glass ampoules and liter sizes as well (very economical). The second best is well-known Celtic Sea Salt which is not as bioavailable as QUINTON (and lacking organic micronutrients) but it still provides most of the Periodic Table of the Elements.

I loved this interview. So much good information. I do have two questions. I'm hearing that RO and other water systems can produce water that is acidic and that is not good for your stomach, intestines, and kidneys. Is that true and is it good to get an RO system that balances the pH levels to a more alkaline 7.5 area? Second... I have a small undersink area so I need a tankless system. The Waterdrop 800 is out of my price range.... I'm considering the Waterdrop G3P600, the Frizzlife PD600-TAM3, and the Brio Prism 600GPD or the Brio Aquus 600 GPD.... do you have any preference? or at least any I should put higher or lower on my list? Thank you.
@Freshnss
@Freshnss 2 ай бұрын
Balancing your water's pH isn't really necessary though there is some evidence that more alkaline water has benefits. You don't balance the pH of spaghetti sauce or lemonade, right? Of the three models you listed, they're all good choices. I lean towards the WaterDrop because it has a separate RO filter and you don't have to replace everything at once like with the other two.

@@Freshnss- Thank you so much for your reply. I didn't think of it that way. You're right, I eat and drink acidic things all the time. I'm glad you are a thoughtful voice of reason on the topic of water to help navigate the plethora of information out there. And thank you for sharing your leanings towards the WaterDrop. That's where I think my husband and I were heading. Your input from your professional point of view is definitely a help as we make our decision. Thank you again for all your great information on this video and all you do.

Also keep in mind that pH is a logarithmic scale, meaning that each level is an order of magnitude separated from the next level in either direction. Your stomach has a pH around 2, which is orders of magnitude more acidic than RO water.

Hi! Do you recommend an RO system that has a mineralize step? Or better to add the minerals externally?
@Freshnss
@Freshnss 4 ай бұрын
If you are concerned about remineralization, drops will be the most effective. In-line remineralization won't be able to add a significant amount of minerals back to the water as it needs long contact time but it's usually enough to make it taste better. In our informal testing we typically only see 10-50ppm of remineralization. For reference, bottled mineral water can contain up to 2,000ppm.

Can you tell us something about vitalized drinking water? Water must also have certain electrical charges.
@Freshnss
@Freshnss 15 күн бұрын
If you are referring to hexagonal or structured water, we haven't seen any evidence that such a structure exists. There are no tests for the claims made by vitalizer companies for structure. On the other hand, adding oxygen, hydrogen, changing pH (ionized) are all easily tested and can be confirmed.

would distilled water not be better than RO since it removes everything?
@Freshnss
@Freshnss 14 күн бұрын
It depends on what you're trying to filter. Both distilled water and RO are not 100% complete when it comes to removal. RO is less energy intensive but produces wastewater. Distillation can't remove VOCs with lower boiling points as the vapors re-condense and remain in the water. Both are very effective if you are doing broad filtration with unknown water.

This is a really good discussion, however the same standards that you are using to judge water filters, applies to the RO systems. How do we know the RO filters are what they are claiming to be. I could use a good filter, which I already have and simply change out the filters more often. With RO I am simply taking the word of the seller that these are indeed good filters and could also be misleading. Frankly the sites that I have looked at shopping for RO system very rarely give actual contaminants the system removes. This is the first time I have heard anyone say RO systems remove virtually all contaminants. Hype or reality?

There are like 3-4 companies that produce the actual membranes. Do not get some proprietary RO system, but a standard housing with 1812 membrane, replace membranes once a year with DOW Filmtec membranes, 1812-75 is pretty standard. 1812 is the housing and 75 is the GPD of the membrane. Get a permeate pump for best efficiency and you are golden.

so me aquasauna seems to have the most reputable certifications I could find, plus its on sale right now for like 60% off. NSF and ansi certification seems to be the best standard of proof that the filter does what it claims. Express water filter seems to have the certifications approved by a 3rd party against nsf/ansi standards but doesnt seem to actually say if is recognized by nsf/ansi qualifications. Express waters third party qualifier seems fairly legit like you can call them and investiagte them if you feel inclined and it seems they will reply etc etc, some form of seemingly decent tracibility. Aquasauna though is tested by a 3rd party (WQA water quality association, same one the guy in this video says he posesses), but it seems their qualification is actually recognized as met by nsf/ansi and marked in their book, vs tested against as express water seems to say. NSF/ansi has a log online you can view to see every ro filter company that has passed soe of their various testing qualifications. There were a few water brands, some meets more standards then others. Aquasauna was the main one i was looking at. I should go look more closely at some of the other companies thea nsf/ansi has in its log as meeting there quality standards. At least this seems to be the pinacle of choosing ro filters that i have found yet.

@Freshnss
@Freshnss 14 күн бұрын
Unfortunately microplastics are a big problem. Recent testing shows that most human populations have nano/microplastics in our bodies already. There isn't a good recommendation yet for microplastics, as even most filtration treatment options are made from plastic which can also leach particles.
