Today, we’re going to talk about the potential dangers and benefits of alkaline water.
Natural water from a well or spring is alkaline. It’s alkaline because it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium.
Many people believe that things that are acidic are unhealthy and things that are alkaline are healthy. But that’s not altogether true. We have a lot of different acids in our bodies that have many important functions.
We don’t need to worry about alkalizing the body. The body regulates the pH in different areas. For example, your blood should be slightly alkaline, but your stomach should be very acidic.
It’s possible to get alkaline water created by a machine that uses electricity to alter it instead of using minerals to alkalize it. If you drink alkaline water that's created artificially, you’re going to alter the pH in the stomach.
Potential side effects of alkaline water made artificially can include:
• Heartburn
• Acid reflux
• Gas
• GERD
• Infection
• Hair loss
• Heart arrhythmias
However, natural water, like alkaline spring water, has no side effects.
Alkalizing the stomach could lead to a deficiency in stomach acids. The stomach should be very acidic to help you break down protein, absorb minerals and vitamin B12, and kill pathogens. As we age, we lose stomach acid.
Antacids also weaken stomach acid. But, low stomach acid is the root cause of symptoms like heartburn, GERD, and acid reflux. Alkalizing the stomach instead of acidifying it could worsen these symptoms and lead to many other serious side effects.
I’ve found that I can digest better when I drink acidic water, like carbonated water-especially if I add a teaspoon of either apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.
Overall, alkaline water has certain health benefits because it contains minerals. But alkaline water is only beneficial if it’s natural and not created by a machine.

Hello Dr. Berg! I found your video about "The Dangers and Benefits of Alkaline Water" very interesting and educational. One thing I try to do is take care of my health. I have Epilepsy Seizures which was hereditary from my father's side of the family in which I have both petit mal and grand mal seizures. Also, I have stomach ulcer, acid reflux, and high triglycerides. I take prescription medications for all of these specific conditions. I used to work in a warehouse and ended up having a seizure on the job. My previous neurologist/epileptologist mentioned to me that I was drinking the wrong type of water. This is what was offered at my old job at the time in the warehouse. They either would provide the brands of Dasani, Aquafina, and/or Crystal Geyser. I lived in a different state at the time when my seizure occurred. He told me that a person with Epilepsy Seizures is supposed to drink Alkaline Water or PH balanced water. I moved to a different state back in 2022 and currently do a remote job sitting down as an ESL Teacher and Academic Tutor. I do walk everywhere by exercising just to let you know. I was informed by a medical professional the following things: "Alkaline Water can raise your blood pressure due to it having sodium in it." Some questions I have for you are as follows: Is it true that Alkaline Water has sodium in it? Is it true that Alkaline Water can raise your blood pressure? What do you think is the best type of water for me to drink due to my health condition? The only reason I switched to drinking alkaline water was so that way my seizures would stay under control, have enough electrolytes in my body, and I would stay hydrated. Many times when I have drunk Drinking Water, Purified Drinking Water, or Mountain Spring Water this hasn't kept me hydrated enough. All the seizures I have had previously were mostly because of either me already being dehydrated, having dehydration beforehand, or due to stress. What are your suggestions and recommendations?

I love your channel and have learned a lot from you. I'm all about health. Thank you so much. I totally agree with everything you said with artificially alkalizing your water with ingredients like sodium bicarbonate (an ingredient in so many 'alkaline' bottled waters) but when electricity is used alone, it creates a condescend amount of ionic minerals which are bioavailable and easily flushed from the system if not needed. So many positive scientific studies on "Electrolyzed Reduced Water", i was curious if you had read them and noted the difference?

Thank you for shining light on many fads that people are getting involved with. My take on electrifying water is the possible problem of sintering. For example, when colloidal silver is made, two silver wires are immersed in water and a current is passed between the wires. When the electrons leave the wire and go into the water, some silver atoms "sinter" off and enter the water with the electron current. This creates a so-called "gas" of silver atoms in the water, because the silver atoms are free and not clumped in a crystal form. At one time, colloidal silver was used as an antiseptic for eye surgery. The absorption of the colloidal silver "gas" by the body is said to be 100%. Silver is not toxic to human cells. If they use stainless steel as an electrode to make alkaline water, what sinters off is iron, chromium, and nickel atoms. You have probably spoken to chromium and iron as supplements. However nickel is not a supplement, I believe it is a poison in the human body.

In order to maintain the acidic level in the stomach after injesting alkaline 9.5 kangen, your body has a buffer system that requires sodium chloride to be produced in the blood to regulate your stomatch acidic levels back to normal. Sodium produces alkalinity in our blood, but because our blood pH needs to be between 7.35 and 7.45, it sends alkalinity to our tissues, which results in cellular hydration/alkalinity. Today's doctors are simply too lazy or too busy to study.

Dr Berg your reasoning seems very sound however when I met with someone promoting alkaline water, I was told that an individual who started drinking it was able to eliminate chronic acid reflux. This seems to contradict your message and I would be very interested in your thoughts.

@@larryfer4526it depends what whether the water is living or dead they could easily be drinking dead alkaline water those are made with baking soda/powder it’s one of the 2 but that will calm the acidity in your stomach where living alkaline water wouldn’t theoretically do that I’m actually about to make myself a lab rat bc the dead alkaline water I drink helps with my stomach acid reflux I have a very over reactive acid reflux so if you’re curious I’ll lyk how that goes

Hello Dr. Berg, Good day to you and your family. My 1st point is having carbonated water which has iodised salt that is bad for health which you described in one of your older videos but i had a Better idea on your opinion of drinking alkaline water ...which is that you said from the spring which is not obviously available in our backyard like yours then i had a idea of boiling the water and adding himalyan pink salt to alkaline it. So is this a good idea of adding himalyan pink salt and drinking it often in the day instead of drinking it only while working out?🤷🏻 Thank you for all the amazing information to the world that you provide.

I had been drinking from a Brita water pitcher for years but in 2022, I sought to upgrade to a countertop. after researching from a link reviewing various options and prices, I decided to try Alkaline water, 3 filter counter top unit - pH recharge. Friends told me the water taste nice. Under the heading of the company's booklet WHY ALKALINE WATER?, it says: "Unlike ionization machines using an electrical current, the naturally structured and ionized water from Invigorated Water's filters provides a long lasting effect. A key function of ionizing water is to change your waters current from positive to negative... The goal with Alkaline Water is not to make you Alkaline, etc. As we are constantly consuming food and drink that is acidic ... by drinking water that is pH 8 and above, our bodies can naturally heal...." Just thinking, acidic foods come from takeaways, readymade meals, and frequent eating out but I seldom eat junk foods. I have just bought new refills. Right now, I don't know what to think. Should I do a litmus test for a month? Read the reviews? ...

Hello Dr B. - I have just started watching your videos and the video about Alkaline water made sense of what I have been through. At the beginning of the month I rode to town with my mom to pay her Bills and she stopped by a church blessing box to put some canned food in but she couldn't put all the canned food in the blessing box because someone had put a couple of containers of the Alkaline drinking water on the shelf and she removed the water and put it in the back floor of her vehicle. While I was riding around with her paying bills it was very Hot that day and I just reached around and got one of the containers of Alkaline water and I opened it and took about 4 gulps of it to drink something. I have never tried it before and it had a very bad taste. I poured the remaining liquid out and didn't think about it anymore that day. The next morning my stomach was hurting really bad and I went into the bathroom to take a bowl movement and when I stood up from the toilet and turned to flush it I looked down in the toilet and got scared. My bowl movement looked dark grey and I thought that it didn't look right. The next morning when I had another bowl movement and looked into the toilet bowl I really got the shock of my life because my bowl movement was Black. I told my family doctor about it and she gave me a prescription for some medicine to heal up my stomach. I started the medicine but the Digested Blood was still in the toilet the next morning. I've had the Gastric Bypass surgery and each month I've had to go to the Cancer Center and get my B - 12 and my Iron levels checked and luckily I had an appointment to see the doctor a few days later and I went to him and told him what my bowl movements looked like and I asked him to do a scan of my Colon to see if there was Cancer present in my Colon. He didn't hesitate to line up the Cat Scan. I got that done and he said that it doesn't show any cancer in my colon. I told him that I had a issue a little while back with Polyps and had some removed. I've made a appointment with my Gastro doctor to do a Colonoscopy and also the upper scope to look for bleeding Polyps. I'm all set for next Monday morning to get the Colonoscopy done and the upper scope down into my stomach pouch. There was a lot of blood being passed in my bowl movements for 3weeks. Right now the bleeding is spotty and I told the Gastro doctor to find the problem and stop the bleeding. Cancer was the first thing I thought of when I seen the amount of blood present in my bowl movements. I believe that the doctor will find more than one polyp bleeding when I go to the hospital next Monday morning at 8am

I have end stage renal disease. A new dr prescribed selenium bicarbonate pills due to me being too acidic. I didn't take them, and instead I started drinking orange juice, upped my lemon juice in water, and increased vegetable intake in general. My next blood test had better Ph. I was told to avoid orange juice by my first dialysis center, but now I know better. I still urinate though, so maybe that's why I don't have a problem with getting too much phosphorous from orange juice. i can't drink dr pepper though, or my phosphorous will be too high.

Great information as alwaysDr Berg. I’ve been distilling my own water for 5 years now. (It’s made a big difference in clearing brain fog- btw). But due to stomach acid, I was thinking of going more alkaline. (I will not now, thank you!) However, I was also thinking of trying apple cider vinegar, along with baking soda in the mornings. Do you think apple cider vinegar and baking soda is a good combination? And if yes or no, why or why not? Thank you. 😊

@HelloKittyNYC7

I am going to mix up my distilled alkaline water with distilled water that has a neutral pH after watching your video. Too much of the wrong thing is never good, but I trust you will always give an honest assessment of health topics. The biggest takeaway is having a balance with what we drink/consume. Lots of issues with spring water companies misrepresenting their water sources as well, so I've been putting the bottled water companies I look at purchasing through lots of scrutiny to try and make the best decision I can. So many shocking things when you check into water companies!! I refuse to buy what I had before...
