I read Shane for the first time this month and loved it. I also thought the writing was lovely. Also loved True Grit which I listened to on audiobook. Strange Sally Diamond sounds interesting. Great video 😊

I've just watched your wrap up 😁 Strange Sally Diamond is interesting, I think I might have worked out what is going to happen though but it will be fun to find out.

A real mix this week Aaron, western, English aristocracy, ancient Queen and Irish rural novel! I will get to a Mitford at some point, I do love humor in my books and poking fun at the aristocracy. Thanks for the heads up on the football, that means my mum will have half an eye on the TV while we are Skyping this weekend 😉

I'm nothing if not eclectic 😂 I highly recommend The Pursuit of Love as a starting place for Mitford, she's very odd and funny.

I've been on a total reading go slow at the moment as well!! Hopefully it'll pick up this week. You always make me want to read Nancy Mitford, I just haven't done it yet. Sally Diamond sounds very interesting, I didn't realise that's what it was about. Loved Eleanor Oliphant.
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
It's probably better than Oliphant from what I remember, because it has an added mystery element. I always feel slightly unsure about books where the character is neurodivergent though, it feels hard to be consistently realistic with it.

I went through a Mitford phase some time ago and pretty much read everything by Nancy and Jessica, as well as biographies about the family. There are some old TV programs featuring one or more of the sisters still on KZfaq that are interesting.
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
I have seen some interviews of Jessica. They're just so odd and interesting.

I really want to check out Dreaming the Eagle! Thanks for putting it on my radar.
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
It's actually a four book series, so there's lots there to explore, it's definitely slower on the pace side but I like that.

Completely understand getting distracted by other things, hope you have been enjoying the football! Haven't read any westerns but Shane sounds interesting

You should try True Grit, it's short and the dialogue is amazing. I'm reasonably new to them myself but that and Lonesome Dove are both two of my favourite ever books. Lots of SF is quite space western I guess.

I've been in such a TV western mood, i started with 1889, 1923 and then finally started yellowstone, i'm iNVESTED in the lifestyle but i didnt think to look for books🤠 Shane sounds really good
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
I'm tempted by Yellow Stone, I think I like the look of Costner's new film series too which seems to be a western/civil war thing. There was a great miniseries adaptation of Lonesome Dove with a great cast which I would recommend, but I would read the book first because its a masterpiece.

@@AaronReadABook i actually liked the prequels more than yellowstone, i thought they were more interesting and less plot holey lol. yellowstone is a soap opera in comparison but i still enjoyed it. i even ordered cowboy boots i was so into it 😆ill check out lonesone dove, thanks!

I have never had any interest in reading westerns but your description of Shane made me want to give it a try thank you Also want to try Nancy Mitford I read Jessica Mitford’s American way of Death ( think that was title?) it was very good
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
I read Jessica Mitford's Hons and Rebels earlier in the year and it's one of my favourites of the year so I will be exploring more of her stuff. Shane I can see people who have no interest in the genre enjoying, same with True Grit and Lonesome Dove.

Funny side note - I just finished The Loved One by Evelyn Waugh and he dedicated it to Nancy Mitford

I’m not sure I’ve ever read a western, but I’m tempted now, you make Shane sound so good! I’m currently reading The Light Years, I think you recommended the Cazalet Chronicles a while back? I’m really enjoying it!
@AaronReadABookАй бұрын
I'm quite late to westerns but I think Lonesome Dove and True Grit especially would be appealing to anyone, and Shane fits that too. The Light Years was my number 1 read of last year, I read all 5 books over the year and I'm already arranging a re-read 😁I love it and want everyone to read it!
@debbiemcdonnell7882Ай бұрын
I’m only halfway through and I was going to ask for the set for Christmas, but I caved and bought the rest of the series used. Can’t wait that long!
