The Ontario Hockey League painted itself into a corner two weeks ago when, upon appeal, it changed a suspension to a player so that he would still serve his 15-game sentence, but could also play in the playoffs. Nathan Villeneuve of the Sudbury Wolves is serving nine games of his suspension this season, returning for the playoffs, and then serving another six-game suspension to start next season. After doing that, the OHL left itself vulnerable. How could any player who commits a suspendable offense for the remainder of the regular season, possibly be suspended for any playoff games? Maybe the league was just hoping to get lucky, and that no more suspensions would have to be issued. Well, the league did not get lucky and now it's applied a double standard. The injustice is real, and the league has only itself to blame.
