I related to what Joey went through. I was sexually assaulted by a friend I messed with in college and blackmailed by him. He literally threatened to hurt my family if I don’t give him money. The police and the detective asked if I’m sure it wasn’t just a “ sex thing “ we did and the police made a joke that “ boys will be boys “. The man who assaulted me got away with it because they threw out my case.

Her story always makes me cry, I see so much of myself in her pain, and I can relate to all of those feelings. The anger the frustration the feeling of it being your fault. Wishing that they could just know A SLIVER of what you felt. Watching them walk away with no burden on their shoulders while you sit shaking in the dirt, on the edge of numb. I was 7 when I met her, she was my best friend, yet she sexually abused and harassed me until I was 10. Edit: thanks for all the supportive comments ❤️

Sorry for what you went through.. But back tho the show, No one raped her really, you don't throw yourself to boys like that and then turn around and claim you have been raped. NOOOO
@itsbella80662 жыл бұрын
@@lexq-sm6lq the definition of rape is “the penetration of someone gentital area without, or contracting their consent.” If you have eyes to watch the video, yes she absoloulty was raped. Her consent was not there, even if she did originally want to have sex consent can be contracted at any time. Secondly- consent cannot be given under the influence, if a person were drunk or drugged during sex then it’s rape. Being under the influence doesn’t give you the right mind to make a decision like consenting to sex. She was sexually assaulted, and even if she wasn’t she obviously has ptsd from the incident, so saying that she “was throwing herself at them” is just incredibly wrong and disrespectful.

There are a lot of survivors in the comment section and honestly I think Joey's Storyline could help pointing out the trauma and emotional stress a SA victim experiences and how society and the fucked judicial system still blames victims of assault and questions if the victims "deserved" to be r@ped by how they dress or express themselves instead of punishing the offenders. It shows how society thinks that sexually liberated women don't deserve the right of consent. I mean you can dislike her character for being a performative activist/feminist while ignoring her friends being blatantly sexist and racist but in no way did she deserve what happened to her. In the end she made herself vulnerable by reporting her case, the offenders got away with it, she lost all her friends, had to change school and had to go through so much emotional turmoil and some of yall still don't think she's the victim??? It really disgusts me how many people kept victim blaming and defending the r@pists in the comments, completely overlooking her whole point of the story...

Not friends at all :) When I watched this show and assault scene I was so horrified. Fact that Joy trusted them or at least thought they were good really make this situation even more fucked up. Joy's character was not perfect and that what I like about her she was messy she was unconditionally herself but their friends stabbed her in her back truly. Glad she free herself from that burden at the end of series when she was dancing. Everyone who has ever experienced something like that abuse or sexual abuse ever harder if it's your friend must know you don't deserve this :) and you will out grown this trauma keep faith and speak to your close ones family or friends who you trust ! ♥️♥️

I agree that nobody deserves to be abused and rape. But Jo's case, she knows she's with the wrong people, she chose to ignore the signs sadly, she was young and headstrong she wanted to be cool and liberated and free and this blinded her for a long time but the redflags has always been there she was even warned. It's really sad that she had to go through this much pain to realize that she's loving the wrong people, that she is friends with monsters, that's she is going through a wrong path trying to maintain a friendship with those monsters. I hope that the younger generation understands the message of the show that not all friends are actual friends, some hides under their friendly smiles to take advantage of you once you put your guard down.
