Billy Cole was a vampire thrall, sometimes they are known as "ghouls". They are given some of the vampires blood to drink, granting them immortality and superiour stamina and strenght, but not completely turned. Because they are not actual vampires, they can move about in the sunlight and usually guard their master while they slumber.

The over the top reaction to the pencil stab was because certain kind of wood is really painful to vampires. They can touch it but being injured by it causes a painful reaction. Now, I'm not sure what kind of wood it is or even if the pencil was made from a specific wood. But I do believe its a nod to the lore about wood and vampires.🙂👍

Hey you watched it! I'm glad you both seemed to enjoy it on its own merits. In 1985, the character of Ed was compared (by some critics) to be a lot what you would have expected a teenage Jack Nicholson to have acted like in movies (and real life.) Thanks for watching and sharing your reaction.

I noticed you guys were uncomfortable with the Evil Ed character, but back then, his character was very iconic because that style of character draws out more of the creep factor when he became a vampire.

There is in fact a Fright Night Part 2. I highly recommend it, it's surprisingly good for a little known sequel to such a classic. If it makes you guys feel any better, Evil Ed isn't in it. 😆

1.) There *is* a Fright Night 2, but Evil Ed isn't in it. There are only 2 returning characters from *this* film, outside of a flashback or two... 2.) The "werewolf thing" you guys mentioned with Ed is actually classic vampire lore. Vampires could turn into wolves, mist, bats, etc.... Roddy McDowell's character, Peter Vincent, dropped the hint in his in-universe show, Fright Night.

Stephen Geoffreys as Evil Ed is goddamn iconic.. one of the most memorable characters in all of 80s horror. 🤷‍♂️ Exaggerated? Sure. Campy? Yup... but so what? The movie is a stylized homage to an earlier era of campy monster movies... it's not going for "realism". If you wanna see how to do this same character in a completely forgettable way... watch Christopher Minz-Plasse in the remake.

Vampire lore has a lot of different rules. There are different kinds of vampires as well. But classic vampires are shape shifters. They can turn into mist/fog, hence the fog in the alley with Ed. They can transform in to different animals an even some insect, usually associated with nocturnal creatures, cats, rats, wolves, bats ,spiders etc... They have the ability to use hypnosis. Some can walk during the day even though their powers are significantly weaker. There are rules, like having to keep the stake in the heart so the vampire doesn't come back alive, hence Ed at the end. Allergies to garlic etc...

There is a Fright Night 2 which I also recommend, another entertaining ride with a great lead vampire, and of course fantastic practical effects. As for the character Ed, he's one of those characters that you either love or hate.💯 There are some reactors that love him because he's the weird, goofy annoying asshole.😂 Another movie to watch before the month end is 976-EVIL. It also stars Stephen Geoffreys, but as a different kind of character. It was Robert Englund's(Freddy Krueger)first and I think only movie he directed. He may have directed others since then but he didn't make another movie for a while because he got discouraged. I believe it didn't do well. But it then became one of those entertaining camp cult classics that everyone slept on. Thinner by Stephen King is another good one that not many have reacted to, and Sleepwalkers. Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight is dope, Billy Zane wan made for that role!!😂💯 Tales from the Darkside The Movie is another good time, great practical effects as well. Also, it's an anthology which reactors dont do nearly enough for Halloween month. Tales from the Hood is another, but it's deep. The main narrator is genuinely creepy as F'k, like for real he gave me nightmares when I was younger. 😳 Honestly.....he still legitimately creeps me the F'k out.😳💯 2001 Maniacs is another starring Robert Englund.
