Hey guys, had a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator stop cooling on me one night. Oddly enough, I was able to get it back to normal with a very simple fix.

So what happens on these Frigidares, is that water from the hose will sometimes get frozen behind the fan. It will make an awful noise or will even sometimes stop working and throw a code at you. Unplugging these will give that ice time to defrost and will be right back to normal. However, this will be a continued issue unless you switch out the hose.

Sorry, new to the Frigidaire Fan club. What type of hose are you suggesting? I'm going crazy troubleshooting this fridge. Could the control panel be an issue as well? Hope you're still out there.

@@martystaceewhitaker7930 So I was just going off of what my repair man had communicated to me after he replaced the hose. Sadly I have continued to have the same issue. It could be a defroster system issue on these fridges, it could also be a water pressure issue and I not sure if it could be the control panel. We turned down the water pressure on mine but that did not solve the problem. My next step will to shut off the water to the fridge and start saving for a new fridge. This is mostly an issue with the Frigidaire Gallery models.

What kind of noise? Is it steady or intermittent? I had an intermittent noise on mine yesterday, then it got quiet, but not silent, and now everything is thawing out.

Can’t believe that worked... I pulled the fridge away from the wall, wiped the vents clean, unplugged it for 10 minutes, and now the freezer is heading back in the right direction from 26. You can now hear the compressor working and the sound is distinctly different from just the fan. Who knows how long it will last, but your video saved an entire Costco haul! Thanks!

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. We went through this last night, came to the same conclusion and resolution, however, I came looking for someone else that had the same issue to make sure it wasn't about to become a recurring problem. Your post confirmed that my fridge will most likely be ok. Any thoughts on what could have caused it? I was told that sometimes power surges can mess up the electronic settings and what we did is essentially a hard reset of the computer system. 😀

Remove the shelves in th efreezer and then remove the 2 lower rear panels. 6 bolts total. Middle Panel covers the fan. Which is covered with ice and creating the loud noise you are hearing. Once the fan is exposed remove any ice build up behind the panel mine was covered with large chunks of ice preventing the fan to spin freely Once the ice is removed. Set the fan back in place. It does face upwards reset the panels. It’s best to pull the plug for 5 minutes and let the main electronic board reset. Plug it in and give it @8 hours to come back to normal temp settings

I have a similar but different issue with mine. Anytime I am running my house on generator power the freezer and fridge temp both change to 32 and the interior lights no longer come on. When I switch back to street power temps go back to 0 and 37 and interior lights work again. Everything else in my house runs just fine on the generator.

That might work for a few days. But if it doesn't you might want to check your evaporator in the freezer it might be covered in frost. Remove your frozen foods to a cooler n remove the two wire shelves from the bottom of the freezer. UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR. then remove the four screws on the cover. Behind that cover you will see the evaporator. If it's covered in frost. Use a hair dryer to defrost the ice build up

Mine is doing the same as everyone here, ice build up on coils and not getting cold. Did the unplug thing serval times, did not work.Tech told me I probably have a freon leak somewhere inside the box. He check with a uv light but could not see one. If had had a leak why are my coils still icing up after about 2 weeks. Only 9 years old. My previous GE in a mustard color was about 20 years old and still going strong till I up graded with this junk.

Had the same problem. Power cycling did not correct it. Tech came out and added refrigerant gas and it acted right for about a day. He came back and and looked and looked for a leak. Replaced several copper tubing parts, held pressure, but compressor no longer moves the gas even though it is running. $1600 and 2-1/2 years old. The fix now is to take a double bladed ax to it and throw it on the curb. The mistake here is buying a Frigidaire. Sadly, there only two grades of refrigerators made these days- half decent and POS. This one, along with LG and Samsuck have a spot in POS.

Has your fridge done it since? I came home today to a pool of water under mine and error code on the screen. Unplugged and plugged back in and it seems to be working fine. 2 weeks ago I had a big chunk of ice land on the evaporator coil fan (in the freezer) which stopped the fan. Fridge stopped working then but was very easy to tell what the problem was. This time it's very concerning. Why did it stop working in the first place? I would love to hear if the same problem has happened twice for other people.

@@EdwardInTX The evaporator fan has frozen up on me two more times in the past 2 weeks. Not sure why but this also could be the reason why it shut down the first time and may have thawed out by the time I checked it. My research has told me there is an air leak somewhere and humid air is getting in. I think the trap door for the ice dispenser is the culprit. Lately I've been making a shit ton of Pina coladas and been dispensing crushed ice. I think maybe the snow particles are getting caught in the trap door and preventing it from closing properly. I am going to keep an eye on this and see if it happens again.

@@paulypaul624 has not happened since because I actually figured out the problem. The problem is because of the water trough that fills the ice tray. Water splash’s over the sides of the trough when it’s filling the ice tray. The solution is to turn the water outlet valve down to reduce the pressure for which the water flows into the fridge. No longer splashes over the side creating ice build up. Fixed!!!!

I'm glad you posted this video but did this prove to be a permanent fix for your problem? What do you feel was the fix? Did it simply reset the electronics? If so, I would assume that the 5 minute unplug would have done that. I think you may have had a defrost problem and the longer time off allowed ice to melt off the coils. Just my thoughts. My aunt was having fridge cooling problems with this exact same model fridge, the freezer and ice machine worked perfectly but the fridge was too warm. She decided to buy a new fridge and gifted me her old one that I was willing to repair. I plugged it in and it works perfectly but time will tell. Thanks again for posting the video.

That didn't work on mine. The little door that opens up electrically from the freezer to the refrigerator section was frozen over and locked shut. The icemaker screws it up all the time. I took the cover off by taking out the odor filter on the left side of the refrigerator part. Unscrewed the 1/4" hex head sheet metal screw, then the same type of screw in the middle (depressed circular area) and then one on the back where the plastic cover wraps around and buts up to the clear cover for the lights. At any rate, once you take off that cover, you will see a little door that operates with a little electric motor on top. Break out the ice with a screw driver or dull butter knife and then put it all back together again. You may want to see it open first and then put the cover back on later just to make sure it is opening. If the temperature gets cooler on the refrige part, then you know the door is opening.
