We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

I agree with BirdYoumans. I am overwhelmed at how good your videos are. They seem to capture the very essence of family life. You guys work together so we'll and I just want you to know when an episode ends it is like the best series of a TV show coming to an end. I just can't wait until the next video to see what is happening in WV. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to the new lawn. I did this about 2 weeks ago and mine has come in fine I believe yours will too.

Instead of raking, drag a 10 ft length of chain link fencing (or equiv.) behind a tractor to nicely smooth out the top soil before spreading seeds. And also afterward to mix the seeds into the top soil. In 21 days you'll have a great lawn. Have fun!

Hey guys, years ago I did the same thing you guys are doing, big area, seeded and fertilizer but no grass grew. The city was working on the side of the road beside us and within a week the area they had worked on was green with grass. Puzzled, I asked them their secret. They stressed that you had to cover all seeded areas with hay. The secret was that the hay absorbed water and didn’t dry out like the area i had seeded did just that, no moisture to make the grass flourish. I took their advice and within a week the area had started to turn green. A miracle! I bought your cap. Trust me. You will be amazed………….until you have to start cutting the darn stuff, oh wait! I forgot about the boys!

You also needed to lime the area as well. 3 types of grass seed needed plus clover. Annual rye comes up and it's done after the season. Bramuda plus a perineal blue or rye grass rounds you out. The top soil wasn't as dark as it needed so the 3 combo of grasses plus clover to build nitrogen in the soil should look just fine by the end of the season. Treat a portion of the yard with the "used barn litter" to test it's effectiveness to jump-start the initial growth spirt, can't hurt. ........ enjoy

Hopefully you'll get some nice grass...a tip....when you mow the grass, do it frequently at first, and let the short cuttings fall and rot down in place to build up soil.....may need to break up any clumps. You'll get stronger growth in the long run. Your life is wonderful indeed...thanks for the hard work and good humour. Inspiring.

To say I've enjoyed watching you all build this farm/home is a great understatement. I quit "traditional tv" about 5/6 years ago as many did & with plenty of great reasons & started watching YT exclusively. I am so glad that I found you guys early in your build....I've even gone back & rewatched some episodes. Following your family's journey has made it SO worthwhile. I always look forward to the "next step", whatever it may be, every time you guys finish something & get ready to move on to the next. I was so excited & anticipated watching y'all put the stone up & now that's finished I'm excited & looking forward to the groundbreaking of phase 2 of your home. Y'all have more experience & more knowledge this time so hopefully everything will go flawlessly. It makes my heart melt watching Ellie with the animals! Her sweet face just lights up whenever she see's them & collects the eggs! Thank you for sticking to your morals & ethics as I've seen some channels I used to watch lose themselves as their channel grew so I stopped watching. You guys are a great example to what family, hard working, strong morals & ethics should be. Thanks for giving us something great to watch & learn from.

The good time for seeding lawn is fall (August and September), so don’t be surprise if some of the young grass dies in the summer heat. It is still much better than just dirt, but expect that overseeding will be required at the end of the summer.

Just a crazy idea. With the barn... the cows trample the ground quite a bit, so every now and again throw some corn seeds on the ground. When it's time to clean out the stall, let the pigs in. They will dig it all up for you trying to eat the fermented corn seeds. The loosened muck is great for composting. .. my 10 cents :)

What a wonderful video. And oh my goodness, those children of yours are growing so fast. If you are not careful, one day very soon you will turn around and find your eldest boy standing taller than both his parents. We age so fast. We have these babies who in no time end up looking directly into our eyes while standing in front of us, as they grow and then they tower above us. Life is fleeting, but has some wonderful milestones that we parents take as rewards, because we feel so proud of the achievements of our children. For them to out grow us and to be better than us, means we have done our job well!

Been following your lovely family near enough since the beginning and it’s great that you are finally at the milestone of Grass and landscaping… Hopefully the Grass takes but if it doesn’t work brilliantly in some areas of high footfall or vehicle movements there is a cheap easy solution. In the UK we use a Terran barrier for the weeds and then a plastic type grid which is basically like plastic mats that lock together and they are full of square holes, so when people or light vehicles go on the grass the mat protects the integrity of the soil/grass and the grass isn’t trampled or flattened……there is a Heavy Duty type which is made of concrete and looks like lots of teeth ( used for where Emergency vehicles would possibly need to get down the sides of grass laid Flats or apartment complexes or retirement homes ). They are also used in places where there is high rainfall on sloping ground as all the little square holes break up the deluge of water flowing downhill ( The plastic ones ) and the soil remains in the individual holes rather than being swept away, they work well in places where the ground is not able to absorb rain quickly. A lot of construction companies are using this also on Roadside embankments as it’s quick,a layer of weed barrier, place the plastic grids, top off with topsoil and then spray with gel infused with grass seed ( the grass seed is protected from the birds by the gel and the gel is like fertiliser as well ). Within weeks the grass has grown and Mowing equipment can be used safely on the embankment due to the grids taking the weight of the equipment and same thing with soil integrity is strong due to grid retaining the soil. We are finding a lot of People are putting these grids down in their private dwellings as more and more people are using light to medium weight ride on lawnmower’s and the grid protects the soil while allowing the grass to grow without getting damage. It’s perfectly safe for kids to fall over on as well as for animals to walk over

Congratulations, you're about to hit a million subscribers - wow! As always, I like your channel - can't wait to see you back working on the ABNB. I loved the graphic concept rendering of the new house. Why stop there, a couple more would further help to round out your portfolio. I was wondering as you were picking up eggs from all over the yard - don't you have a hen house or at least a chicken tractor? It would make egg gathering a lot easier. Sooner or later the varmints are going to be attracted to the easy pickings., First, it's the eggs then the chickens will start to disappear. How about some pigs, goats, and sheep to round out your sustainable package? Just wondering - when we were all kids, it helped with learning responsibly and tasted darn good.

You are the perfect example of The American Dream and I thank you for representing the best of America and humanity. That being said, I can't wait for you to experience gardening in all it's glory. Unlike building, you have to wait years to figure out what you did right and what you did wrong. A completely different challenge is ahead of you and I can't wait to see how you progress. Keeping my fingers crossed the grass will grow 😉 I just seeded my pasture and wow seed is expensive so it would suck if it washed away. We have a contract on a house in Clendinin, WV with 121 acres so waiting to hear back on that.

I can't believe how proud of you guys I am ..I watched from the beginning and AMAZED at how for y'all have come...knowing the sacrifices with Josh still working and driving so many hours to and fro then still putting in work on the house and y'all having to live in that CRAZY RV ...to the cold showers... UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT for phase 2
