We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

Funny thing is I was raised on a sod farm, bailing hay, and worked for a family landscape company for 30+ years. This last two videos was like I was having flash backs lol. Now fishing off the coast of New Jersey 😁

Erin, when you reflect, it's nothing less than Poetic. For a "Concrete Guy", your have a true gift of Writing and Inspiration. This episode clearly goes to you, NOT just because of your narrative, but Josh this time was wrong! I and most the regular followers, would definitely notice the Pretty Center Stone. Ellie at Chuck's grave was touching too.

I fear I'm getting repetitious now but Erin, your videos never disappoint. Your videography and editing skills are just over the top and of course the content is some of the happiest and most gratifying on youtube. Always smiles and warm feelings that you share with us. All of yours and Josh's hard work are now "coming home to roost" so to speak and the rewards of your labor must be greatly satisfying to you both. The kids learning to share in the labor will serve them well for a lifetime! My favorite "fifteen minutes" of each week.

As a midwestern American, I agree- we are fighting with everything we have to have Americans return to the Lord God of the bible- and His statutes. Family, Marriage between a man and woman- 2 genders, etc etc- wholesome and good. We pray Scotland does this as well. God bless.

Is it the content of their videos; their workmanship in building a home and all the nice things that go with it? Is that what made America so great? Could it be because Erin is so pretty and/or Josh is so handsome? I've seen many of the Victoria's Secret shows on KZfaq from the 2000s. The ladies are gorgeous. Could this be why America is so great. I tried to find the Victoria's Secret shows from the 1700's, but I can't find them. I bet they weren't as beautiful back then. Anyway, be sure to let me know what it is about Erin and Josh that made America so great. Hell, maybe if Josh is a gun owner, he could be a crack shot. That would be something. Can Erin cook a blue-ribbon Apple Pie? I love it with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream on top.

@@evonnechi7029 The 'Christian ethos'- hard work, honesty, family- biblically traditional Father, mother, children. Children obey and are respectful , honoring their parents. Self reliance, not expecting others to carry them through in life. This does not mean they ARE born again Christians, but the biblical values do show in the ethics and ethos of their lives on the videos.

Invariably, they all believe in, essentially, the same kind of things. The Bible is not the only source of information that people rely on. Christianity is not what made America great. It is the belief written into the Declaration of Independence, that reads: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It was this train of thought that made America different, which also laid the foundation for the federal and state governments of the United States, that provided the light of hope to a world shrouded in darkness. In the past few decades, that light of hope has been getting dimmer, and has now almost gone dark. What a tragedy for America -- for the world.

24 years ago my wife and i did a backsplash in our kitchen using 3 different ceramic tiles busted up and individually placed them over 20' of countertop and to my surprise our first house has been through 6 owners and that back splash is still there...such a cool feeling to know everyone who has owned the house enjoyed it enough to leave it!!

The stone work is beautiful. It is a lot of work. The personal touch though makes it so much more valued. I look at it this way; it's what you want, and the amount of labor doesn't matter. It's not about the labor, it's about it being personal

i live vicariously thru your family, i worked 30+ years as a g.contracter and me and my wifes retirement plan was to build our own house in virginia. we bought the property and the 5th wheel to live out of while we built it. but my wife got sick and sadly passed. im tearing up writing this..so i love what you 2 are doing and have watched every video you two have made envying you with what you are doing. i wish you the best and picture what your doing as what me and becky would have done.

I would put expansion joints in especially by the trees because over time the tree roots will probably raise up and crack the concrete

One of my fondest memories from growing up is helping a friend of the family get the hay from cut to bale to barn. There was a storm due to come in and it was all hands on deck. We worked like demons to get it all in and threw the last bale into the loft as the rain finally unleashed. That day was more fun than the trip to the amusement park that was originally planned. You aren’t just building a working farm, you’re making cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much for sharing.

I can totally understand your feeling that stone covering your walkway will be a nice natural look and that it will match the stone on the siding. But, I have to agree with those other viewers that the functionality if such a walkway in WV with the winter snow and the uneven surface having a potential for tripping, rolling an ankle, etc isn't worth it in the end.

Stone on the sidewalk is a great idea. The enthusiasm of your Junior stonemason really makes me smile. I grew up on a 30 acre ranchette. The summer I got my driver's license my father was working as an over-the-road truck driver. One of our neighbors used his equipment to bail the hay and we split the yield with him. Our barn was just the right size to store enough hay for our eight cows. My mother, sister, and I put up the hay that summer with the help of some friends. Your family will treasure these memories forever. Peace, Love, and Hope.

The stones look very good. it was a beautiful moment to see Ellie in silent prayer, so touching. then the hay bailing looked hard work and I think that Erin has grown bigger muscles than Josh. I did something similar but instead of stone we added a dye to the cement and with a dowel rod stone patterns were scribed, it came out beautiful with less work and saved lots of dollars and would be beneficial in your area with snow removal etc.

I thought the same as I watched Ellie choosing the pavers! It's been so wonderful to watch her grow. She's a special little soul. And I'm sure you're quite proud of the boys as well you should be. Your videos are a treat to watch!

Just noticed you’ve got a million subscribers, now we head up for 2 million. You have created a wonderful lifestyle and beautiful home. Stay safe just remember “ go ahead marry him, it will be fun”. I was raised on a 121 acres, theirs no better life for a kid.

some of my best childhood memories were working on a neighbors farm bailing hay and dairy farming from when I as 12 to 15 years old ....made enough money to buy my own Bmx bike with mag wheels after only a month the summer of 78..

My concern with the walk would be right next to the big tree and it's roots possibly breaking the cement. You may want an expansion joint on a line between those two trees. Love watching your journey guys

Do you mean a stress crack joint, or control joint?? Different than expansion joint. Expansion joint = just what it says, concrete expands in hot weather than contracts in the cold...ever see a road buckle up when it's really hot....not enough expansion joints, or something called "air entrainment" that is added to the concrete mix. Air entrainment creates tiny, tiny bubbles in the concrete mix...when it gets really hot the solid concrete expands and the bubbles fill in, than come back again when cool...it is determined by % in the mix design and the concrete company determines that in their mix design. Expansion joints also help for expansion and are the entire depth of the concrete. I wouldn't worry about expansion joint for that sidewalk, as the concrete mix design is for their climate. And now with the stone on top I wouldn't worry about control joints either. Any cracks that develope will be covered by the stone

@@markspitzok3064 My concern was if the tree roots were to heave the concrete slab up as the trees grow. Better to lose just one section cleanly than have a nasty fracture running across. So I guess I was actually thinking of a stress crack joint rather than an expansion.

@@michiganengineer8621 yes, stress crack is what I thought you meant. The stone tiles will cover any cracks that develope and if the reinforcement wire is in correctly it won't seperate, the tree root will lift the slab up evenly, maybe 1/2" over 10 years. I understand your concern and your right about tree roots messing up concrete...but I think if reinforced properly walk should be good for 15 years, except for some of the stone tiles coming loose over time.

Oh my, Leon loves graham crackers! Green apple slices are magical with them, as well. I really dug watching the hay bailing process. I had never seen it before.

We came up on a farm. I remember clearly bringing up hay with my grandpa. All of us kids worked the same no matter boy or girl. I'm so glad for that raising now.

I would have used stamped concrete work smarter not harder,and the look is fantastic.

We want the walkway to match the foundation and didn’t like the look of mixing faux stone with real stone. For sure more work, but it’ll be worth it in the end to have a natural look

I'm struggling to find something that works, but also frees up my time to work with my husband around our homestead...
