Very helpful video, thanks! I have a 2006 Tacoma Pre Runner V6 DBL Cab 6 bolt, and though my brake calipers and some of the other brake parts look different than those in the video, I was able to figure it all out because of your video! It took me a couple hours to do the job, but next time I'll be able to do it in half that time! Thanks again! Steve

I wish I would have seen this video before I did my tacoma. Mine is a 2002 but it all looks exactly the same. When I drive it it sounds like something is scraping badly, Especially when I turn. I may have put the retaining bracket on upside down and also the brake pad with the wear indicator might be reversed, I'm not sure. I will have to go and check these out. This is one of the best instructional videos I've seen.

2011 tacoma front breaks I changed the front earlier this year with high end break rotators and pads, I knew someone and got a,great deal and an auto parts store. I changed them myself exactly like it says to. they work great and much more stopping power than the factory rotators and pads. The only thing is that when pulling out of the driveway or anywhere slowly they'll make one small knocking noise. But only when it's been sitting for just a few min. Like I said, no issues at all besides that. Smooth great power stopping.

Oh no, thank you! BTW, for 2008 4x4 Tacoma owners, the brake pad kit contains shoes and 2 types of wire clips, not the formed sheet metal retainers used by so many other car manufacturers. I didn't think I got the correct hardware kit until I took it all apart. Next up, rear brake drums.

I bought an 07 Tacoma AWD and the previous owner only had the small clips on the slide rod with no break retainer clip or the long wire one that runs horizontal on the caliper which Is the only hardware that came with my new set of breaks and rotor. I can’t find a break pad retainer clip online that looks like the cross one n your video. so I only installed the slide pin clips and the wire hardware installed horizontal on the caliper with my new breaks and rotates. Has anyone found that cross looking break retainer clip?

Pretty sad they used improper or even lack of torquing and improper pattern as well. I have to replace my warped rotors, maybe the previous job was done by an idiot? Also you never mentioned monitoring the brake fluid and on top of that you said “use the appropriate sized socket”? WTF you are doing a brake job and you don’t even know? The whole point of a video is to make things easier. Btw. ASE Master Tech (retired).

In the beginning of the video, should the cap of the brake fluid reservoir be removed to allow the fluid level to rise back in? Then the cap replaced following the job? Just wondering if this step is necessary but omitted, or unnecessary.

My Taco 2006 looked nothing like this! I have a 2006 4x4, and there are two cotter pins, and one spring thing at the bottom. Go to NAPA auto parts and get the premium street pads (about $64); if your paying more, your getting ripped off. The NAPA premium should come with all the pins, springs, and grease. I liked the old OEM cotter pins better, so I reused them. This was my first brake job that I have done in over 30 years. Very easy if you watch the OTHER videos that demonstrate the correct brake anatomy. Maybe this video is that of the Prerunner; not sure, but definitely didn't represent what I have. Also, get some sandpaper and rub off the two large pins that hold the pads in place. Lightly rub them down afterwards with some high temp grease to prevent rust. Torque the lugs to 85 ft. lbs. After all is done start the truck and pump your brakes about 5-6 times to pressurize the lines, and you should be good to go! If I can do this, anyone can.

Great video! Quick question. Just got a brake job done at my dealership and they only changed the pads. I am feeling a vibration/ grinding feeling in the brake pedal. I think it may be the rotors. If I change them do I need to change the pads again also? Thanks!
@2carpros
@2carpros 2 жыл бұрын
That's strange. Usually you replace the rotors and pads at the same time because you want to break them in together. Yeah I mean it sounds like the new pads aren't mating well with the old rotor OR the new pads weren't broken in properly. Thanks for watching!

Do you not need to apply anti-squeal compound between the pads and calipers or lightly grease the guide pins?
@2carpros
@2carpros 9 жыл бұрын
We do not recommend to the novice person to grease around the brake pads because any contact with grease on the pads will contaminate the pad needing to be replaced. This vehicle is a California car where we have less rust problems and it was a clean car for the most part not needing grease.

Personally I would change the rotors and pads at the same time. New rotors can be had for pretty cheap off of Amazon.com you could turn them but it makes more sense to buy new ones as they will last longer and they won't cost that much more.
