August 2023: Team V3Cars shares the fuel efficiency report of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx AT in this video after driving it in the city and on the highway. We not only give you a detailed analysis of the fuel efficiency that the Fronx automatic offers, but also the variation in fuel efficiency in city and highway drives.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is available with 3 engine options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated Petrol, a 1.0L turbo Petrol and a 1.2L CNG.
We are testing the 1.0L turbo petrol engine that churns out 100PS of power at 5500rpm and 148Nm of torque between 2000 and 4500rpm. The 1.0L turbo Petrol engine gets a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed TC. This powertrain with the automatic transmission claims to deliver about 20kmpl of fuel efficiency.
The 2023 Fronx is 3995mm long, 1765mm wide and 1550mm tall. Bigger exterior dimensions give a car a stronger road presence. The Fronx has a 2520mm long wheelbase. A long wheelbase makes the car more stable at high speeds and gives better legroom in the back seat, while a shorter wheelbase makes the car more agile.
The 2023 Maruti Suzuki Fronx has a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres and a boot space measuring 308 litres. The Fronx has a ground clearance of 190mm. The tyre size of the 2023 Fronx base model is 195/60 R16 and the top model rides on 195/60 R16 tyres. Cars running on bigger wheels provide better handling and styling. However, these advantages come at the cost of efficiency. Having bigger wheels means more metal and more rotating mass. Therefore, it adversely impacts your drivability, performance and mileage.

@TheFourthWinchester Yes, we do refer a lot to the brochure because brochure often tells you a lot. Regarding mileage tests: Yes, we do them in afternoon, but we do not do the city run on empty streets. It takes us more than 4 hours to do the 100km city run -- that's an average speed of under 25kmph. The city mileage run is done from Gurgaon-Delhi via MG Road, and not NH8. We fail to understand how do claim that these tests are flawed.

@TheFourthWinchester It is not about when we test. It is more about the average speed. It is quite possible that at 7pm the average speed might come down to 20kmph, but even that is only 2-3kmph slower than our average speed. Going below 20kmph on average speed means that the conditions are very specific to a certain drive pattern -- how can that be generalised? Moreover, over a longer term when one also uses the car on a highway, the average speed is bound to remain around 30kmph for a lot of us. A 2020 study by Ola suggests that even Bangalore's average speed was 21.1kmph, and Delhi was around 23kmph (very similar to our average speed). Going below a certain average speed to show how low a car's efficiency can go is not how we want to approach this test. The idea is to have a resultant figure that is relatable to most of us over a longer term.

@@amiribrahim2062 Mileage in very busy city traffic ranges from 13 to 14 +. Mileage in city (when speed is about 30 -40) is 17 to 18. on highways, average is 22 +. On account of busy schedule, drive to another city could not be undertaken, as such cruise control was not used for long drives. The average is with 3 occupants and AC running all the time. The Turbo engine is very powerful and is matchless. Engine is so powerful that even for sudden overtaking, the paddle shifters are never required to be used.

Modern automatic cars have computers, which are 4 times faster than human brain. These computers keep on monitoring speed, braking, acceleration, turning, fuel usage etc. every second. The computer in Fronx Alpha Automatic use the data to maximize the fuel consumption, for better average. Driving with light foot and avoiding the tendency to race the car does wonders with fuel economy. The Driving style is constantly monitored by computer and fuel supply to engine is constantly tuned to the style of driving of the individual. When the style gets stabilized, the fuel intake and other parameters also get stabilized, which change only when the driving pattern changes drastically. My fuel economy has improved as follows - (A) Bumper to Bumper traffic - initially average was 8 or 9, then improved to 11 now comfortably giving 13 kmpl. (B) congestion free roads - initially average was 10 or 11, then improved to 12 now comfortably giving 14 to 16.5 kmpl. (C) Suburbs - 18.5 kmpl. (D) Highways - 20 +. Driving with a light foot and a little imagination and patience results in very impressive mileage.

The most awkward thing is why you are shaking the vehicle while refilling fuel? Does shaking vehicle will allow to fill more fuel? Come on sir ji. Fuel is liquid in state and it will take the shape of that form when pour in any product. Don't do it in future.

Hi @jephshay, both city and highway test runs are done on different days. In the video, you might feel that this was done in one session, however, it takes time to shoot and cover 100km city + 100km highway. Hope that clarifies your doubt.

Are you qualified to do such tests? How can you use the onboard meters to measure it's efficiency? I'm a professional rally driver. We use special meters that are perfectly calibrated and nearly 99% accurate.

You guys are such liars.. you started the highway test at 500 km reading on the dashboard/ instrumentation cluster.. after driving a 100+ km on the highway according to you, your dashboard still reads 507 km… that means you only drove 7 km & you are telling every1 you drove 100+ km to test the mileage. How is this even a Real test? Had you driven a 100+ km the reading on the instrumentation cluster should have been 600+

You are reading the range. That is not odometer reading. Odometer was set to 0km at the beginning.
