After having that long video about my X-T4 I wanted to make a similar one about my X-H1. After using it along with my X-T4 for some street photography recently I've been reminded why I love this camera so much and have decided not to sell it. This video is me expressing some of the reasons why but also just a free flowing conversation about this awesome camera.

I didn't say thank you when I first watched this post. I watched it again today. Thank you for putting together an excellent post. I bought the H1 and grip during the price drop. . . £1000 UK. I've sold my X-T3 and my X100V because I kept going back to the H1, and oddly my X-T1. The build quality of my Pro1, T1 and H1 are excellent. I won't be buying the T5, the H2 looks good on paper, but I'd miss the dials. I think for the future, I'll be continuing with the H1.

I am just here to say I appreciate your "rambling". I think one of the big reasons people buy gear and then regret it later is because they turn to youtube videos for insight, but don't get to hear the full thought process behind creators' decisions. I myself am looking at trading my X-Pro2 for an X-H1 because I am finding myself needing a bigger grip, but I've looked at a ton of different cameras as part of this decision so I really appreciate all of your insights into this camera. And you're right, there really aren't many recent videos on the X-H1, so I just want to say thanks for making this!

Hey Joe! Thank you so much for this. It truly is refreshing to hear these videos connect with people. It seems tough for some people to grasp that personal preference is often the reason that most people pick one camera over the other. So I hope being as open as I can I can relay what I've liked and disliked about certain cameras. The X-H1 has continued to stand the test of time and comparisons to other cameras. I think the biggest drawback for some photographers would be the AF system. I'm sure it pails in comparison to the X-H2 series (and even my X-T4) But for the stuff I shoot I don't always need the latest and greatest AF. Often times I have a MF lens on my X-H1 anyway. Overall there's nothing lacking on the X-H1 for photography, in my mind. It's a complete camera, if that makes sense. I can't say for sure if you'll like it more than the X-Pro2 or not. But I can say you'd be getting a great camera. Thanks again for your comment Joe! Let me know how it all goes.

It may be rambling but its a quality ramble. I have the xt3 and xt30 and almost sold the xh1 twice. But each time I use it I fall in love with it all over again. The ergonomics are superb as is the image quality. On a rainy day I put on the 90f2 for street photography and its a dream to use. I used burst mode with the 90 f2 last year to shoot my grandaughter playing in the autumn leaves. I must have taken a couple of hundred shots and all bar two were in focus. Its liberating using the xh1 with the 23 1.4, 56 or 55-200. All the chunkier lenses are a joy to handle with this camera. The vertical flip out screen action for low portrait mode is better than on the xt3 in my view. The viewfinder is amazing too. Like you Ive tried the older bodies too. I cant speak to the xt4 because I haven't used it but Id be surprised if the ergonomics are as good. Sensors aside, because they all have their own character, I think the xh1 is the best fuji camera to date. Thanks for taking the time to share your reflections. All the best Mike

I have the X-h1 and love it. I'll probably keep it forever. Sometimes I like playing around with the X RAW Studio software. There's a couple things that could be improved with the X-h1, though. I wish it had internal GPS. It's just easier than dealing with the phone app. I also wish it had better battery life. Do you have any recommendation on how to set up a camera rig with one of those Anker batteries? The ones that were listed on Fujifilm are old models and are hard to find.
@CraigBergonzoni

I agree it would be great to have those things on the X-H1. I assume the X-H2 will use the NP-W235 batteries like the X-T4 and those are awesome. I don't have any current suggestions for powering it on a camera rig. But if I find any info on the Anker or other external power options I'll let you know. Thanks for watching and commenting! I love meeting other X-H1 owners.

Many thanks for this video which helps me a lot to rationalize. I started and continued with film photography because I didn't like digital cameras (I am 32 years old). Years have passed now and I feel that things have changed a lot. At the moment I'm thinking of going digital (also in view of the rising prices of film and for ecological reasons actually). My problem is that for digital cameras, I'll always look at the best of the best when in fact, when I find an analog camera at the flea market, I'm super happy to find something that acts as an extension of myself. Like we understand each other. Your video helps me a lot to stay on this mentality and I feel like Fujifilm has this nostalgia or this kind of respect that film photography brings and tries to translate it into digital. Even though it's 2023, I'm thinking of going to H1. Thank you very much

Hey! I totally understand everything you're saying. It's a weird dynamic between old vintage film cameras vs "new" digital cameras. Thankfully I can use an X-H1 or X-T2, etc and treat it in a similar way as I would one of those film cameras. Use manual focus glass, use the viewfinder a lot, take my time, be intentional. Shoot JPEG as well as RAW. etc. Let me know what you end up getting. The X-T2 is one of my all-time faves as well and doesn't have the top screen, therefore getting you even closer to the analog vibe. But you really can't go wrong with the X-H1 or any of the X-T1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, if you want that vibe. Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate the support!

@@CraigBergonzoni, finally I made my decision and bought a X-H1 for €550 (massive cheap). Didn't checked the number of clicks but it seems low. I've added my old Nikkor vintage lenses, one 24mm and a 50mm thanks to the Novoflex adapter I bought. I did some tests and added some recipes and... damn it looks amazing. Have you some recommendations for buying vintage or modern lenses ? Thanks a lot :)

@@kaios738 Awesome! Great deal on a fantastic camera! And you have a couple of great lenses there too. I've really enjoyed my Voigtlander 40mm (manual focus lens.) not cheap but so well built and compact. A couple of my favorite lenses to adapt are Canons 28mm F2.8 FD and Pentax Takumar 50mm f1.4 M42 lens. But if you want a little bit of that vintage vibe and great quality for a low price check out the TTartisan lenses. For the most part these are my most used manual focus lenses nowadays. The exposure compensation also bothered my in the beginning. I thought I always had to push the button together with turning the rear dial. However, there are two settings for the button: “On when pressing” and “On/Off Switch”. The latter allows you to only use the dial to change the compensation setting. Very handy. You can find the setting at the bottom of page 2 in the Button/Dial Setting menu.

@mahoumatic
@mahoumatic 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video. Thought of changing my X-H1 to something else, even tried several cameras of other mount, thinking of making more video and less photos. Eventually X-H1 is still my main hobby camera. Maybe partially because of my XF-80, that's should be my last fuji gear to sell, and at the moment X-H1 is the second last. (Got the sharppy 50mm f2, pancake 27, best wide angle kit 15-45, trying the 16mm 1.4 recently, unfortunately they are not in a level that I will feel regret if I need to sell them,) The dials are one significant reason why the X-H1 is a totally different camera to anything in X-series. Those who complain the X-H1 missing the compensation dial, should be those who had never use the X-H1. When I am using the X-H1, I never feel the need of a compensation dial in any shooting situation, because the camera taught me to shoot manual, and I decide everything. Once I familiar how aperture, ISO and shutter speed work, I felt having the compensation dial on my X-E3 sucks, as it turns every time after I store my camera in my camera bag.

The big grip is taking into consideration the ibis. The ibis is taking into consideration you'll be using longer lenses. That weigh more. Only thing missing is a dedicated wrist strap for the X-H1. One that isn't huge on the wrist, but will not break. Hard to find third party straps that are narrow for heavy systems.

@CraigBergonzoni 2 жыл бұрын
It would be tough for me to flat out recommend this over an X-T3. They're both great cameras and actually have some similar features. I think if you lean on autofocus tracking a lot then stick with the X-T3. The AF improvements is one of the biggest reasons to keep the X-T3. For stills they're very similar beyond that. I don't see a huge difference in the X-Trans III & X-Trans IV for stills. I know there are differences if you do side by side comparisons but for the most part they are very similar. For video the 10-Bit H.265 options of the X-T3/X-T4 is very nice. The IBIS on the X-H1 is solid and I do use it. Some of my favorite things about the X-H1 is how it feels to shoot with. I love the X-T2/3/4 cameras a ton but it's nice to walk around with something with a better grip sometimes.

Hi Greg, I'm a new X-H1 owner. I've owned the X-T 2 & 3 plus far too many X lenses. I lost my job before Covid happened, had to sell everything and was without a camera for 2 years. Luckily, I am back at work now and have been able to get an X-H1 & 10-24 lens in really good condition. I also have an old manual focus Porst 55mm f1.4 M42 lens which I never sold because a) it's probably worthless & b) I loved the images it took and vowed I would never sell it. I can't wait to see what I can create with it and the X-H1. Although I love the Fuji XT cameras, they are a little too small for my hands. I have both an XT-2 and an X-H1 and struggling to decide which one to sell. I like the small factor and lighter weight of the XT-2 but the X-H1 is probably better when dealing with larger lenses because of the grip and IBIS. I also saw on another video that the body is stronger and the ring for the lenses can handle larger lenses as well, so will probably keep that one since that is my main use for it. It isn’t the best tool for this job. The tilting screen is a surprise. The XH1 is a video centric body so the flip out screen would have been a better choice. I too have been a victim of the allure of a smaller camera! I just got an XS-10 (was planning on this replacing my fantastic X-T2, in order to get IBIS) and I find myself *really* missing the analog dials and the flip screen. The smaller size & lighter weight are nice, I guess, but the XS-10 will never be a pocketable camera regardless. So now I'm planning on selling both the X-T2 and XS-10, in exchange for an X-H1. It's a substantially bigger camera, but I'm willing to do it in order to have IBIS, as I hate using a tripod, and many of my photos have required it. I can get a mint-condition X-H1 with battery grip for around $600, which has to be one of the best deals in digital photography these days. Any thoughts?

I tried XS10 and sold it to get a new X-H1 last year. To me the X-H1 feels more "premium", it feels better in the hand, you can use large lenses (good luck on using the 16-55 with the XS10), the shutter sounds is so sweet, and I much prefer the articulated LCD of the X-H1. So yes the X-H1 is big and heavy but the ergonomics and handling are fantastic. I think small bodies are a trap because it seems nice on paper but sometimes you get more cramps with small bodies that you have to hold with the tip of your fingers, than with big bodies that sit nicely in hands. I tried XT4 too but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a grip so it's not comfortable with some lenses like the 16-55 that I use a lot. To me the best body for this lens is the X-H1.

Flippy screens are becoming the norm. It's unfortunate for photographers because tilt screens are nearly invisible to the public when used for street photography and often puts people at ease because they assume you are fiddling with your camera instead of filming or photographing them. Tilts are faster in implementation, don't nearly double the width of the camera, and are aligned with the chassis/lens for point and shoot ease. Because the X-H1 didn't sell well means Fuji photographers will suffer the flippy for the foreseeable future. Which is so strange because most people attracted to Fuji aren't really in to video. So it appears they are trying to chase both markets, which means one will suffer. I returned my X-t4 because I couldn't live with the flip having mainly bought it for the IBIS. I went to Sony for a while, but I want a smaller system, and still have a couple of Fuji lenses so am now looking at the h1 after spending several days checking out my options for a tilt. I nearly just upgraded my Sony instead there's so few tilts out there.
@CraigBergonzoni
@CraigBergonzoni 2 жыл бұрын
It will be interesting to see how they address this in the next few models. I haven't lost hope they will still offer some models with the tilt screen but we'll see. There will be two models of the X-H2 so i think between those two versions and the X-T5 hopefully we have options.

Greetings. If you can try out the X-S10, it is a small camera but has the grip and IBIS of the H1. IMHO it's a hybrid X-H1/X-T4 but in Fuji's 'small' format. I've had the X-S10 for a while but have never before used one of Fuji's big brothers. Got the H1 last week. Love the return to the Fuji dials and buttons, but miss being able to slap it into 'auto' real quick. Plus the X-S10 has a flip-out screen that I REALLY miss when using the H1.Since it's smaller, the single battery will stretch a bit longer than the same on the H1. Work=X-H1, street =X-S10 IMHO.

Thanks for this vidro. I got my X-H1 used during spring 2021, bought it instead of a X-T4. I am using it together with my compact X-E3 which I also love. As far as lenses are concerned, I love the compact f2 primes 23, 35 & 50mm and the 10-24, 16-80 & 70-300mm Zoom lenses provide an immense flexibility whilst still being compact and lightweight.

Hey Bernd! That's awesome you have an X-H1. I'm so very happy I kept mine. I love all the Fujifilm cameras but it's still the one I would choose if I could only have one for photography. Once I try the X-Pro line, that may change but maybe not. The X-H1 is a special one for sure. And yes, the compact primes are so great! You can't underestimate the design of them and usability, and of course they have great image quality. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hello Craig I have to say that I really liked your video when you talk about the camera in real time a bit to convince yourself or rather as a process to come to the conclusion that you want to keep it and why you like it and what you would miss. Many people think they are just buying something new because something new is coming.I took photos with sony before and have not had a camera for a couple of years now and have thought and read a lot about just x h1 for a long time. At first I was determined to buy an xs 10 precisely because it is small and flexible but then there are things on this one that I think I would appreciate more. I take photos almost only manually and then I feel that a good viewfinder is important and this seems like a big step up to xs 10 there.The screen should also be better, which is an advantage, and from what I understand and think I would appreciate this wonderful trigger, it also reduces motion blur, but it seems so special to press, feeling. Only downside I feel is the weight difference. What I can see is not the jpeg difference in the sensors so great? Or what do you think, you know mentioned regarding black and white. The build quality and the fact that the knobs are visible so you avoid menus is also a big advantage - I also like the window on the right which shows the settings. Liked your neck strap where did you get it? Thanks again for a nice (unlike many who talk so fast in their videos) and informative video where you tell about your own experiences with the camera instead of radar up facts. best regards Joakim

Hey Joakim, I'm very happy you enjoyed this video. I like taking my time with conversations like this especially on videos that can be on KZfaq for a long time. In terms of the X-S10 vs the X-H1; if you're mainly shooting stills and don't mind the larger body I would lean toward the X-H1 and put any money you save toward your lens. They both will produce amazing images. They both will create great RAW & JPEG files. The X-S10 will have Classic Neg and Eterna Bleach Bypass film simulations. If those are important to you then the X-S10 is a good choice. Like you, I love the knobs and that was one of my hesitations regarding the X-S10 for me personally. But I have held one in the hand and it's a pretty well made little camera too. It's super small. I don't think you can really go wrong with either. As far as my strap, I got it from Amazon - amzn.to/3L1kof0 Thank you so much for the kind words! Let me know if you decide to pick up the X-S10 or X-H1. Thanks again!

Hello and thanks alit for your good answer. Well its leaning towards the x h1. Its just the lsmall and light body i really like coming from the apc sony befor and i really liked that instead of nikon d300 befor that. The camera that come out to be iused is the best one i think. I hve not used any camera from fuji morr then trsted my brothers x 20, so is those two simulations a big selling pount ? As i understand it you cant get these simulations by bying them separat ? I dont know if i imaging but i think pictures from cs 10 and the newer sensor ”pop” in a nicer way then x h1. Dont know ig its true or that vould be the simulations or you think there is difference in the two sensors in that aspect. Otherwise it seem the biggest change is in better autofocus wiitch is not important to me. Regarding lens im leaniing to fuji 35 1.4 but as i understand they are not that good with manual focusing ? Alternativ is ttartisan or mitakon. Really like the zen moment when shoot manual and i create the photo in a different way. Really appreciate your insights and will look into your other videos, saw the 7artisan yesterday. All the best and thanks for job very well done. Best wishes Joakim

@@jockes8653 Hey Jocke, sorry for the late response. In terms of overall image quality the X-S10 and X-H1 are going to be very similar. There's not a huge jump in image quality from the X-Trans III to the X-Trans IV sensor. In terms of the two new film simulations on the X-S10, the importance of those is really personal preference. If those don't matter much then I think the choice comes down to your preference in camera size, weight, design and ergonomics. As far as the lens goes, I don't think the 35mm 1.4 is bad for manual focusing.

hi again no danger, thank you yes but it strengthened my feeling that it will probably be an xh1 as it will be cheaper and put the rest on a good lens. positive to hear that it works fine to drive manually with the 35an. then it will be purchased and in turn is macro 60mm.
