I wanted a camera that could carry in my pocket and always have with me to take pictures and videos of my family. I bought the XF10 for that purpose and I'm happy with the results. There are some things in this review with which I disagree. 1) The reviewer mentioned that all of the KZfaq reviews he saw mentioned issues with auto focus. All of the English language reviews that I saw were made before the firmware update. About half mentioned issues with auto focussing. The other half were satisfied with the focussing. He was very thorough about what came out of the box, describing the camera and referencing the software. He did not mention in the video that he updated the firmware. So it's not clear if he did that. I bought my XF10 in December 2018. It came with the original firmware. The firmware updated to the latest version almost automatically shortly after I made the Bluetooth connection to the Fuji cam remote app on my phone when I initially set up the camera. So I shot with the updated firmware from day one. If I remember the release notes correctly one of the fixes in the update addressed subject acquisition. I have no complaints about auto-focussing. I shoot mostly in aperture priority. Focussing with face/eye detect works as expected. Or, tapping a point in the display takes the focus right where I want it to go. Unfortunately I can't definitively say if the difference in our experience with the focussing is due the firmware, expectation or how we used the camera. 2) The reviewer states that the camera app has not been updated in 5 or 6 years. The iOS and Android versions were updated on December 12, 2018. He may be referring to the User Interface, that hasn't changed much. However it has improved functionally over the past 5 years. 3) I had no problem taking selfies with this camera. The field of view is wide enough that your face will be in the frame if the camera is held at arm's length and the lens is pointed at your face. Enable face detect to ensure that your face is in focus regardless of where it is in the frame. I recommend setting the mode to SR+ for selfies, this will enable face detect automatically. I got some great shots of me and my kids this way. You will also have the option of setting the flash to on, off or auto in SR+ mode. If you need to visually frame the shot you can use the remote control function of the app to view and control the shot from your phone. I used this method to get shots of everyone at our dinner table. You can also use this method to get shots of a subject where you don't have a direct view of the camera display, for example if the subject is at an odd angle or you want to take a stealth shot. 4) I would use a different camera if I was a full time vlogger. However the video from my XF10 is fine for personal use. I used 1080p/60fps for my videos and I was happy with the results. The 4K/15fps is for burst mode for stills. The camera can shoot full resolution stills at up to 6fps and 4K resolution stills at 15fps. So they applied that to a video mode as an add on. The lowest priced Fuji bodies that support 4K/30fps cost $200 more than the XF10 and $300 more with the least expensive kit lens so I don't think it's fair to disparage the XF10 for not having it. 5) As for that jack, it is not strictly for audio input. It also serves as the input for a wired remote shutter control. Its function is set in the menu. The shutter control would be handheld, so that jack can be utilized without the need for a shoe mount. So there is no reason to disparage the camera for having the jack without the shoe mount. If the jack is to be utilized for audio the tripod threads can be used to attach a bracket to the camera. I have a straight bracket with one cold shoe mount and an L bracket that has 2 mounts. There definitely a learning curve with the XF10. That's going to be true for any gear that is new to us. The steepness of the curve depends on our experience and how we want to use the camera. The reviewer only had the camera for a couple days. I still had a lot to learn about the camera after the first few days of use. I wasn't ready to blame the camera for any bad shots I had. I've been learning from my mistakes and I've been getting better as I gain experience with the camera.

I completely agree with Keith Johnson's reply. I have the XF10, it works well enough for me. I have no issues with the auto focusing and low light performance of the XF10. It is a cracking little camera. I just wish people who post reviews of camera equipment on KZfaq would base their reviews on facts, update the firmware, set autofocus setting to single point, with the smallest possible focus box. Also, if Fuji had fitted an articulating LCD to the XF10 it would have to be much thicker, and that's not the point of this camera. Just look at the Ricoh GR3, this camera does not have a articulating rear LCD in order to keep it as slim as possible. These cameras are pocket cameras, they will never be able to match the performance of pro DSLR's and premium mirrorless cameras.

The problem with most reviewers of this camera is they did not do one of the following because they did not spend enough time reviewing this camera. A true review should take a few weeks of using this camera to complete. SET TO PERFORMANCE MODE SET FOCUS BOX SQUARE TO LARGEST SIZE SET TO SHOT FOCUS NOT CONTINUOUS FOCUS

I guess the auto focus is no very fast and pumping sometimes but I think the blur is your slow shutter speed. I just order one. I will try it.

Nice review mate. Fair enough I must say. Did you used it with the latest firmware though? Plus, I would like to hear about the leaf shutter, the snap focus mode and the customization. Also try to use manual focus when in low light, Fuji works great (at least the better models).. Anyway, good and honest review. Thumbs up.

I have now used this XF10 camera for 6 months, I love it!!! I have also seen a video showing GRIII again XF10, really the XF10 seem to do well and half the cost. The main thing about this type of camera is that it will be with you, that 99% about buying this type of Camera, or it is for me. I still love my Sony cameras, but they do not sit inside of my pocket.

An hour to find the video mode? Likely an exaggeration, but come on... I have a feeling some of the other issues were user error as well.

what an awful review. I think its you that is not quick enough for street photography not the camera. I have been shooting on this guy for a couple weeks now and it has not disappointed me. Yes the autofocus is not as quick as on some other cameras. But in high performance mode it matches my needs for a carry around point and shoot for street photography. It does take some skill to use its not a simple camera. Not gonna do everything for you like those sonys.

So, it took you over an hour to find video mode? Ehhh it's on page 45 of the user manual ffs. No wonder you can't get to grips with the AF if you're just trying to figure it out by yourself. Here's the solution to save you many more hours.... AF-S on Single Point using largest square. Update to latest firmware! Also Power Management set to High Performance.

The AF is the easiest thing an update can improve. So is it an issu ? However, what alternative do you propose at 500€ ? I've looked for one, I didn't find any. The GRIII is twice the price. The only one could be the A-X5 or GX850, but bigger and more expensive with a 28mm equivalent lens. De facto, for me, the XF10 is the best camera for 500€...

To be fair, you can get this camera brand new for $399.99. You won't find a camera which can take better pictures for the price. The Canon EOS M100 may be able to compete, but you have to carry around a lens. Takes better pics than the RX100 and the Canon G7X series. At $400 some compromised are acceptable IMO.

You didn't mention Fuji X70 which is predecessor of this camera but with tilt-screen and hot sue. Unfortunately Fuji make downgrade from X70 because "they can't incorporate newer sensor and powerful processor in this body", and XF10 is about half of the price of X70 (maybe they want to produce low budget camera). Also on XF10 you can't attach strap (only wrist strap) - which is hard to wear if you shoot on street for 3 hours with coffee stops etc! Tilt-screen is too important for street photography because you can touch-and-shoot and people didn't notice you (and main reason why I stay on X70). Both cameras have nice sharp lens so for street photography autofocus is not important, you just set 2.5m on f8 and everything is clear (in night f2.8 and same distance if you shoot people from close distance). Of course min 1/400 is recomended. For street photography we usually use one focal length and these cameras are pretty smaller instead of Sony RX100 which have too large lens (and smaller sensor). Unfortunately GR III doesn't have flash and tilt-screen.

2 or 3 days is insufficient time to get to know a camera fully - in that time all you can do is skim the surface. XF10 is a sweet street camera if you zone focus or use the snapshot modes. Metering on this camera is fantastic - I rarely have to use more than .7 exposure compensation. Colors are great too. Autofocus is a let down, I'll give you that but work your way around its faults and it'll give you excellent pictures. A bargain for the price.

Nice video. Covered all aspects of the camera. If Fuji cleaned this thing up it would be a nice camera. It’s curious how a company that can do so many things right can also do so many things wrong. Anyway, nice job and I appreciate you doing an English version.

I reviewed this camera five months ago. They had five months to fix the autofocus issue. They did nothing. The XA-5 uses the same system and was released ten months ago. So they had ten months to fix the issue. They did nothing. It's clearly not something that can be fixed with a magical firmware update. Goodbye fuji.
