Go Arounds, aborted landings, and missed approaches are a must thing you should practice every now and then. We have to practice them every single month here in Papua New Guinea flying into some of the most remote bush backcountry airstrips.
Join me on this flight vlog as we fly the Kodiak 100 from Wewak, PNG to Munbil; a bush runway bordering the Indonesian border.
Whether you are a seasoned pilot, student pilot and wanting to learn to fly, or someone who just dreams of flying, I think you will enjoy this day in the life of a pilot video.
Enjoy and consider subscribing if you like what you see. More flight vlog videos every week, so don't miss out. 👍

Missionary Bush Pilot I love this content and love that you explain a lot about what you’re doing and why. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite aviation channels! The only thing I’d like to see a bit more of is the operational aspects of it. Loading/unloading, some of the people you get to know and interact with at the diverse destinations which you serve. Thanks again and looking forward to more videos!

My first plane was a De havilland Beaver...I built it myself from three cardboard boxes...complete with yoke made from coat hanger(s) and canning lids for gauges... Despite being 'VLT' ..(Very Low Tech) it proved reliable during countless missions and rescues out over the back yard..... ;-) ......I was 8-9 yrs.old...I even added floats later on... Here's my feedback....I appreciate not only your ongoing comments regarding the flight itself...but the zoom in on the instruments and vid screens, etc. It allows me to pause and study it...and then relate in real time/moment with flight remarks....I haven't flown in a long time, and it's like being retrained with newer aircraft and video instrumentation...Flying has always been a passion.....continuing to fly and learn (even through just this) keeps me wonderfully entertained......and wide awake! I’ve made those flights around PNG for any years as a passenger. Landing in Lihir, Goroka, Mt Hagan, Tabubil, Lae and many others. Fond memories. Except when the Locals get restless it can get dangerous with the wrong colour skin let me tell you. I had a pilot drag me to the pilots lounge one day in Mt Hagan it was too dangerous for me to wait at the terminal while they refueled.

Thank you .... I grew up in PNG and schooled in Tari, I remember landing on grass ... how times have changed in Wewak. I did return a few years ago working in Lihir ... love the place but the humidity is hell!!!!!!!! as I'm sure you would agree. Balimo, Kawito and Ubud were my locals back then... I recall trees flicking the wheels over during a MAD dash away from a lowering cloud (MAF Pilot on another level!!!) until we dropped down over the river and followed that home... hahahaha only lifting to clear the canoes then back to water level. We landed blind in fog... crazy!!! Also recall the clouds with mountains are called Cumulus Granites.. something you can't fly through. Thanks again, take care and stay safe.

My father was in the USAF, MSGT, instrument man, SAC. When I was 10, the Base (Sheppard AFB) had Family Day & he took me inside a B-52 right up into the cockpit. It was brain-overload at the time. This was around 1963. I don't remember seeing any digital displays in it, just a couple hundred assorted dials and switches everywhere. I guess it was somewhat different flying one of those planes. I think I'd rather fly your missions.

Gives a little idea of what is necessary to fly one of these birds. It's not just steer, takeoff and land. Oh, what was that engine stuff. I 100% agree with you. The reason why we have to use both is because the G1000 is programed so you can't change the fuel into kg, so we have to input our fuel every time in lbs. That's why we developed an excel sheet that converts it all for us. We talked with Garmin to see if we could change it, but they said no.

7 Years in Tabubil so done a few milk runs with the Talair lads. Charted an Otter to Wewak for a weekend. What beautiful place. Amazing to see the bomb craters all around the airfield. Big military barracks were still there. Some of the worlds best fishing, diving and beaches.

@@aig1434 We paid with our time. We watched a video that failed to meet our expectations, in the following sense. The title caption conjures the image of a real go-around, not a drill; and moreover, the capital letters imply a real emergency. That deception is not inadvertent. It is intentional. That is not a big deal. But "big" enough to notice.

Missionary Bush Pilot Missionary Bush Pilot no need to convert it just for me, chief. I just recall a design I was reviewing for stepper motors, that was something like “0.25mm per step +/- 0.001 thousandths”. This convention in your industry explains the failure of a few ArianeSpace launches, and the Mars Climate orbiter. Beautiful country you’re flying in.
