Tuxedo sent over their InfinityBook Pro 14 Linux notebook to the studio for me to review, and in this video, I'll give you my thoughts. And it very well might have the best screen from any notebook I've ever reviewed. Check it out!
Note: I can't believe I forgot to mention battery life in the review. I was getting 10+ hours on my end. I probably would've gotten more if I were to lower the brightness.

I actually received one last Friday. manufacturing with shipping took about 2 weeks (in Europe). well I can say that screen is absolutely awesome!!! and aspect ratio! battery doesn't last that long as they claimed but taking into account the size of the device I did not expect it to be true. Gestures work fine with Gnome, and scaling by default is set to 200% with is actually quite comfortable on such device. Anyway thanks Jay for the review. Love your channel!

So how long does the battery last? it seems to me that this is the only problem with this laptop
@taryelhlontsi2548
@taryelhlontsi2548 3 жыл бұрын
@@billythekido1414 well it totally depends on how the laptop is used. They installed Tuxedo Control Center where it is possible to set a custom profile, so for example when CPU range is set to 0.4 - 2.1 GHz, bluetooth is off, screen is set to 25% (still bright enough) it lasts for about 4 hours watching KZfaq + internet surfing, or about 5 hours of coding. Also it consumes 7-8% of battery in suspended mode overnight. I personally enabled hibernation on lid closed, but for that I had to resize swap partition from 8Gb (default) to 38Gb (as recommended for 32Gb of RAM). Anyway if something goes wrong they also ship so called WebFAI which can be used to completely reset the laptop to the initial state including partitions

Hey can I get your email or something, I'm really curious about the 200% scale on gnome, does it fit well ? I would love a video or something showing it ! And how about the fans ?
@taryelhlontsi2548
@taryelhlontsi2548 2 жыл бұрын
@@nicolidz This is the most silent laptop I ever had and actually this was one of the main characteristics I was looking for (hate noise). Also it is cold (a bit hot only when charging). To be fair I created a custom profile in their Tuxedo center app where I specified max 1.8 GHz for the cores. Gnome scaling looks great, I enabled auto-hiding on the bar to save some additional space. I bought it with 3K display so 100% was not very comfortable to my eyes anyway but 200% very much is

I'm glad I didn't buy this laptop for myself, but my company paid for it. The only good is the screen, battery life is terrible with the 3K display. The keyboard is okay. For a laptop of 1600 EUR doesn't feel premium, to be honest. I wouldn't recommend it, if you can afford an X1 Carbon 9th, go for it.

With USB-C power delivery as a new standard, companies shouldn’t even ship laptops with separate barrel connector AC adapters anymore.
@rafaelagd0
@rafaelagd0 3 жыл бұрын
This is useful if you don't have a docking station or a good enough dongle and have something else already plugged to your usb-c. The product should work out of the box, don't you think? If it was as phones that any charger does the job I would agree, but we are not there yet, unfortunately.
@bigT49A
@bigT49A 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, seems a bit anachronistic, but you need to have a quite "beefy" USB-C charger for most modern laptops of 60W+ otherwise your battery will take a long time to be charged... I travel with a 61W Apple USB-C charger with this notebook which is okay-ish...
@LearnLinuxTV

I'm actually not sure why they haven't stopped making barrel connectors anymore. I agree, that's a bit odd.
@erickleefeld4883
@erickleefeld4883 3 жыл бұрын
@@bigT49A Sure, so a manufacturer would include the appropriate USB-C charger in the box! I’m not talking about no longer including an AC adapter with a new computer. I’m talking about discontinuing the entire barrel connector system, with its different sizes and problems with interoperability. USB-C has solved all those problems, with the wattage level the only technical detail you need to care about anymore across systems. (Just don’t try to cheap out - only go for reputable brands.)
@dktol56
@dktol56 3 жыл бұрын
@@LearnLinuxTV Currently, the USB power delivery standard maxes out at 100W over a USB-C connector, which is not enough for gaming laptops with a power-hungry discrete GPU (often mobile Nvidia). The barrel connector has been the only option for these systems. That said, I believe they have an updated PD standard and USB-C connector that can now handle up to 240W, which should be enough for most gaming laptops. That may finally spell the end of the barrel connector, but maybe not. It's kind of a tried and tested technology and may linger in budget systems for a while longer - much like micro USB is still used on some low end phones.

Unfortunately... when Linux laptops are finally getting a more friendly pricetag I might consider one. Until then I keep buying actual affordable Windows laptops (500 - 700 euros) and stick a Linux distro on it. I'm sick of all these manufacturers popping out of the ground with their premium offers. Like Linux is premium thing for people with money to spend. Why not offer hardware in all price ranges? But no... Linux hardware HAS TO be premium and expensive. / end of rant.

Sorry, but that price... no, just No. And only mediocre intel cpus? I don't like cheap things, I collect cars and Porsches, but for a generic-looking 14" laptop to demand that price (the "good" version price, that is) it needs to be something special. Not only do I not see anything special, but some things (like the charging) have been badly implemented, and others look like they are still a work in progress. And then the OS? The "Linux" Windows? Seriously? And yeah, I'm free to use a "proper" distro, however, stuff may stop working... WTF? I'm sorry if you think I'm being harsh, but 2,300+ Euros for mediocre to very bad (the GPU) hardware is just unacceptable. This week I bought a brand new Legion 5 with a Ryzen 5 5600H and an Nvidia 3060 + 16Gb of RAM for 875 Euros (sure it was a promotion, but still). It's just a fabulous machine, with great hardware (and no, I do not game, but gaming laptops seem to be the best for what I do, heavy graphics, 3D, CAD, and so on). This Bandido is nothing short of a scam, at least that's my opinion, Cheers.
