Excluding cost, the best Asian suburbs are undoubtably 626, OC, Santa Clara/San Mateo Counties, Northern New Jersey, and Queens. These are the only places you can live a completely Asian lifestyle without needing to assimilate. If you're really feeling homesick, there are numerous nonstop flights back to the motherland. If low cost, homeownership, and warm weather are priorities, Houston, Las Vegas, Sacramento, and eastern SGV are great options. You can still kind of live in an Asian bubble. For academically minded, high earning professionals: Seattle (Bellevue, Redmond); NoVa/Maryland; Dallas (Plano, Irving, Carrollton); Chicago (Naperville, Oak Brook); Boston (Acton, Newton, Quincy). Asians are highly visible, but some degree of assimilation is needed.

@@Django19 I live in Northern NJ and it's basically a paradise for Asian Americans. You have access to every Asian supermarket, restaurants, communities, etc. But the truth of the matter is, it's expensive AF. Buying a home in Northern/Central NJ is the most expensive in the country, compared to a comparable suburb in just about every other state. However, the public schools are the best in the country and it's super safe and nice. You just better be prepared to spend a ton of money, if you aren't in a high earning profession, it's not really a viable option for most.

Burnaby, BC Canada is insanely expensive, also it doesn’t snow that much there. In general, non-Canadians are clueless about what true snowfall levels are considered “a lot”. Anyway, this video was very informative and I’m really happy that it was created. It’s also nice to know that there is someone else out there who likes to deep dive into stats and data about this stuff.

@@skygrey7237 Asians are the 3rd largest group in California, after Latinos and Whites... so discrimination is equal opportunity.... it is VERY different from what you, as an Asian, feels like, when you are in the South. There, in the Deep South --- except for a few very large cosmopolitan areas --- people still treat the FEW Asians they come across both as a strange/exotic being and someone to pat the head with ("good boy, you little China man"). Again, if you live in California, you KNOW there are so many Asians, Asians are against Asians, Asians are against others; others are against Asians (especially in to schools), and others are against one another, too... because everywhere is PACKED to the brim... especially the desired coastal areas, from San Diego, to Irvine, Long Beach, Riverside,... all the way up to San Jose and SF, where every other human being seems to be an Asian of some type. Indeed, in San Jose, in most of the better neighborhoods, you might as well pretend you're somewhere in Asia, with "quite a few Whites and Latino tourists." That's the density of Asians is... in many cities and enclaves in California. That means, of course, you're literally living like termites (3 to 4 people), because every one is seemingly willing to go into depression ---- by living with debts and nothing but hopes (of the future getting better, if you work from dawn to dusk, doing some meaningless technical job) --- in order to get a tiny but safe place that costs $5,000 to $8,000 a month. For $5,000 to $8,000 a month, you LITERALLY live like a second cousin of the King of Thailand or the 3rd cousin of the Sultan of Brunei, in the rest of the USA as well as, in 99.9% places in the world...

As someone in the Washington, DC area, I can vouch for Maryland and Virginia. Specifically, Montgomery County in Maryland and Fairfax County in Virginia, the two counties that surround DC. Montgomery County leans more Chinese and Fairfax County leans more Korean and Vietnamese. But, there's a good mix. Both counties have a sizable Asian population and are very diverse overall. Asian singles, young families, older Asians. Any Asian would fit in around here. We have Costco, 99 Ranch, H-Mart, Lotte, etc. It does snow around here; but, during the winter, it snows infrequently and the snow totals aren't too big.

Irvine is the most glamorous. It is well maintained with high end Asian supermarkets, super clean, and the people are of a higher class. Not trying to sound classist but you will see the overall difference in comparison to other Asian cities.
@TYZyi5ss
@TYZyi5ss Ай бұрын
However, in comparison with main cities that are actually in Asia, Irvine is really not worth it. High property tax, high Mello-Roos Fee, high sales tax, need HOA for almost all properties, and you still need a car for grocery shopping. Then the only good part is it's just safer and comes with a lot more afterschool places than other "American" cities. No other advantages.. No river across the town, not quite by the sea, and no main supporting industry around it, cos the biggest industry out there is actually Real Estate.... I mean those so-called conveniences can be easily fulfilled in any main cities in Asia with 50% lower living cost: Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, Tokyo, Yokohama, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, etc
@KingKong11730
@KingKong11730 Ай бұрын
@@TYZyi5ss You're completely missing the point. The people in this discussion are looking for places in the US, talking about cities in mainland China are clearly not an option and the standard of living is FAR worse than just about every single other option. Not to mention, you can't just move to China in a permanent manner very easily - especially if you're not even Chinese to begin with. Some of those places like Tokyo and Singapore could be even more expensive and have the same barriers as the Chinese cities. Moving to a completely different country is not a helpful suggestion.
@TYZyi5ss
@TYZyi5ss Ай бұрын
@@KingKong11730 I understand the video's title is American Cities. But the video itself even mentions other cities in the world. Why can I? Also, Tokyo is not expensive at all and probably is one of the most affordable cities across all the developed countries. Do your own research and don't feel you have to get stuck in the US. Same thing for Singapore. It really depends on how you start your career in Singapore. It's only expensive when you're a foreigner. After you get their Perm card, the living cost is 80% lower.... Also, how can you say the living standard in China is "FAR worse". I'm laughing my ass off. What do you think China is? Just open your eyes. Its actual living standard is way higher than Singapore and Tokyo, especially when it comes to food and grocery. Because those 2 cities still need vegetables and meat import. But China doesn't. It's the largest export country. Food is so good and cheap. If you really live on a US meal, hey US / German supermarkets are available in Beijing and Shanghai with items purely imported with the same price in the US as well. Chinese people go, and that's not like high-end and people can't afford... Also, Shanghai and Beijing have a lot of subsidies on public transportation. Bullet Trains and Cellphone Pay are everywhere and super convenient that westerners can't even imagine. Living in China is not hard as you imagine either. You can get a job and even buy a property in China with no problem. China is the real powerhouse in Asia, and all the other countries including Japan, Korea and Singapore are pretty much all having China as the biggest export country. You might ask then why Chinese are still immigrating to the US.. Hey that's exactly your advantage as a US passport holder, with English background and Asian face to earn money in the biggest international market in Beijing and Shanghai. That's like New York level cities when it comes to almost all the aspects but with very low living costs. Lots of foreign companies' offices in Beijing and Shanghai do global pay, similar to the US. Again as a foreigner, it's not hard at all.... The US passport is only powerful when it's used overseas. You are Asian, and you want to make full use of it especially in Asia. Go abroad, open your eyes and see the world. When you're in the US, your US passport is useless

Now they have tons of things to offer, and is also a great place to get a home to raise a family, while still close enough to the greater Sacramento area, Central Valley, Tahoe, and the Bay Area. Asians are getting attacked in Oakland because the original Oaklanders assume that Asian Americans have money. If you read the original Oaklanders' KZfaq and Twitter comments, they label Asian American as unwelcome "invaders" of "their neighborhoods" in Oakland. They are angry that Asians open up shops that cater to Oakland's Black population (e.g. hair products/services). If you have elderly Asian parents, then advise them to stay indoors once the sun sets if you live in Oakland. The knock out game has been going on for more than a decade in the Oakland/SF area, where youths from gangs brag about their ability to knock out elderly Asians with a single sucker punch to the elderly Asians' heads. If safety is high on anybody's list, then think twice before moving to Oakland.

Sacramento is definitely not part of the Bay Area. This is coming from a Bay Area native. Dallas area, aka DFW is relatively affordable if you are bringing in money from someplace like NY or CA, but home prices and overall costs such as insurance and property taxes have skyrocketed. Property taxes are reassessed every year with a cap of 10%. Cities north of Dallas are getting very expensive. Cities west and south of Dallas can still find some cheaper places but the days of 200k-300k for a decent home that is newer with plenty of space are long gone.

Plus I have a great relationship with my Taekwondo instructors and CT is known for great healthcare. I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. This is why my Korean boyfriend and I are scared shitless of having children. In Florida, it's Pinellas Park in the St. Pete area. Look it up, it's the most Filipino city in the U.S. Tampa/St. Pete has alot of Filipino and Korean populations because of MacDill AF Base which for those that don't know is Central Command. Orlando has a more diverse Asian community but most businesses you see on Colonial Drive are Vietnamese, with some Chinese and Korean sprinkled in. Miami is a completely different situation. The original Asian community were the CBCs (Cuban Born Chinese) that came from the 60s to the 80s. They look Chinese and some hold onto some semblance of Chinese culture but most have no connection to China and are 100% Cubano. They speak Spanish and English and that's it. Next came Filipinos but because of faith and having Spanish last names, they blended into the Latin communities just fine. Miami has a high Central American (Meso-american) population so Filipinos blended in unnoticed except of course in the healthcare industry. In the late 80s there was an influx of Japanese due to Miami having more banks per capita per square mile than any other city in the U.S. This included guys like Rocky Aoki who opened his first Benihana there. In the mid to late 90s however, there was a big influx of Thai folks to South Miami/Homestead because of agriculture and rebuilding after Hurricane Andrew. And then it completely stopped.............until about ten years ago. Now it's all Chinese. The thing is you only see alot of Chinese in Little Havana as tourists or in North Miami Beach where alot of the stores down 163rd/167th St. are Chinese between supermarkets, clothing, massage parlors, restaurants, money exchanges, etc.. Unless you're a local, generally you have no reason to travel out to NMB so you wouldn't know they're there. There are even plans of building a modern Chinatown in North Miami.
